To our valued clients,

As some of you may have noticed, we have been short on veterinarians. This has been a province wide problem. There are many challenges that come with trying to attract a vet to a rural practice. We have yet to succeed. To combat these issues, we have chosen to provide our RVT's, Bridgit and Sara, with further education that allows them to do annual wellness exams as well as some vaccines. Our techs have completed an intense, 5 day workshop that focused on communication skills, critical thinking, behavior, further nutrition and vaccine/ deworming protocols.

How does this affect you and your pet?

When you bring your pet in for regular vaccination, wellness exam, you may be seeing a Registered Veterinary Technologist. You can expect to share your pet's history, be asked questions about their health and wellness, and be part of a comprehensive physical exam. There will also be a discussion about vaccines, deworming, behavior and nutrition. When discussions and the physical exam are completed and your questions have been answered, your pet will receive their appropriate vaccinations and deworming ( based on the protocol determined by the veterinarians at our practice)

What if my pet has a health concern?
At the time of booking, you will be asked if you have any health concerns with your pet. If you do, we will book you with one of our veterinarians. If you have no concerns, we may book you with one of our RVT's.

During the appointment with the RVT, if there is a concern or abnormality noted by the RVT, if possible, we will have a vet step in. If a veterinarian is unavailable, we will book a follow up medical appointment with a vet, in a reasonable amount of time.

Are RVT's just like human nurses?
While RVT's are often compared to human nurses, their rolls vary in many ways, they do so much more. Our RVT's are highly skilled in many areas. From running diagnostic testing, monitoring anesthetic, to client education and nutrition, they work behind the scenes ensuring your pet is safe and happy while in our care.

What will our veterinarians be doing now?
By having RVT's manage and care for wellness appointments, this frees up our doctors to focus on medical appointments, surgery, emergencies etc...They will also continue to do vaccine appointments.

This is a really exciting opportunity for our technicians. Bridgit and Sara and both looking forward to spending some time getting to know you and your pet's better.

Updates to CDC’s August 1 dog importation rule: If you are bringing a dog into the US from a dog rabies-free or low-risk country, you now only need to fill out the simple CDC Dog Import Form. Other forms are no longer needed. The requirements for dogs arriving from high-risk countries have not changed, and these dogs are still required to have additional documents. Read the full requirements: www.cdc.gov/dogtravel

We have been holding off mentioning the new requirements for USA travel which are to take effect August 1 2024, as every time we think we know the rules, it changes (major changes last week, and again today).

So the current rules (which could change again tomorrow)
1. Dog must be a minimum of 6 months old.
2. Dog must have been in a low risk country for at least the last 6 months (this includes Canada, USA, Mexico).
3. The dog must have a microchip (must be readable by ISO scanner)
4. Dog must be healthy at the time of crossing
5. You the owner must fill out a CDC Dog Import Permit Form

The permit will be valid for 6 months.

Remember, you still need a Rabies vaccination certificate to come back to Canada.

Please visit the CDC website for the most up to date information

Our apologies for those of you who were given different information. It changed last week, and changed again today, and might change again.

If you have any questions, please call the clinic at least a few weeks before you travel.
