Save the dates October 12 & 13 for the ©️ Thanksgiving Roping in High River, Ab. Because of it being thanksgiving weekend, I’m going to run 1 roping per day to make sure you get home to spend enough time with the in-laws 😏.

We are grateful for the moisture but looking forward to the warmer days ahead!
Happy Friday and a wonderful weekend to all!

02/24/2024

Hey everyone, just wanted to post a quick update on the roping I was planning for this spring. I have decided not to have the spring jackpot this year due to uncertainty of good roping cattle that are available.

I do have (October) dates tentatively booked for the 2nd annual No B.S. Team Roping Jackpot taking place in Claresholm once again.

I will post dates and format once they are confirmed.

Last year the No B.S. paid out over 90% cash, prizes and incentives back to the ropers and sponsors.

Stay tuned!

Clint

With the overwhelming response of people wanting lessons, I’m going to try and keep adults and kids separate as I find kids learn better with other kids. They aren’t intimidated and fuel each others fire…

I’ll go thru my list and do some adjusting and get back to everyone who has already signed up.

Thanks everyone for the support, I’ll contact you at some point today 😊

I ended up buying a few steers and will be hosting a limited number of beginner roping lessons at High River Ag this winter. These lessons will be small groups, 6-8people and we’ll be roping the Smarty and live cattle. **If you are un-coachable, don’t listen, or have no interest in progressing, please don’t sign up.** These lessons are for people that WANT to learn and improve on their skills and not just showing up to see how many steers they can rope in 2hrs. If you plan on attending you will need to purchase your High River Ag membership before you can ride ~ NO EXCEPTIONS. Just go on the website (www.highriverag.com) and you can re-new on there. Schedule will be posted shortly, stay tuned… You can call or text me if you need more info 403-603-0570

10/28/2023

Only a week has passed since the No B.S. Team Roping and planning has already started for my spring roping in April.

Since I’m all about A ROPING FOR THE ROPERS AND THE SPONSORS, tell me what you’d like to see at future ©️Team Ropings…

Instead of having a suggestion box at the No B.S., I figured we can have an open discussion on Facebook. Hopefully reach more people and get more input. If you have anything you’d like to bring up ‘quietly’, please send me a private message and I’ll keep your input anonymous.

Question #1: What would you like to see for prizes (both as a competitor and/or a sponsor)?
a: ROPING CATTLE ~ 3 options:
1. Take the cattle, Or,
2. Take the money instead of the cattle, Or,
3. Take the cattle for a free 5-6month lease and some cash
**the cost of roping cattle is not cheap and this will definitely front load the roping. Will need to be a 2 day roping**

b: SMARTY SLEDS & QUADS:
(this would be dependant on price and availability of quads and most likely need to be a 2 day roping)

c: SADDLES & PRIZES GALORE:
Quality built saddles that will stand the test of time (not an $800 trophy saddle that falls apart and cripples your horse. These saddles will each be in the $4,000-$5,000 range).

d: MORE $$ IN THE PAYOUT: minimal prizes (please keep in mind that money comes and goes and a lot of people getting their start in roping like winning prizes such as buckles or saddles etc…)

Question #2:
What would you like to see as a format?
a: 1 or 2 days? (500 teams Vs 1,000 teams~ this will also be cattle dependant)

b: Straight pick entry or pick 1/draw 1 like the No B.S. was?

c: Would you like to see more straight draw rotations?

d: Roping number/roper handicap (eg: #10.5 roping capped at a #5.5)

A few points NOT up for discussion:

1. Lower entry fees are not an option with the output costs of cattle and still having a good payout

2. Pre-enter/pre-pay is also the WAY IT IS GOING TO BE unless you are a sponsor or the roping doesn’t fill up. By doing entries this way I can get a read on the amount of cattle needed and I’m not chasing people for $$

3. Global cards bought prior to the roping. I want NOTHING to do with number classifications, take your concerns to Global

3. For the ropings in the future, YOUR ETRANSFER WILL BE YOUR ENTRY (sponsors will still be able to email their entries and pay cash day of roping). You will need to send you and your partners fees at the same time. Just like entering Vegas. **If for some reason you decide you do not want to come to the roping and want your $$ back, there will be a turn out fine of $100, just like the rodeos. I have a new appreciation for all of the time and effort that goes on behind the scenes juggling people around**

I’m honestly trying to streamline the process of entering/paying so that you just show up and rope… Nothing else to worry about on the day(s) of the roping besides getting the hump out of your horse before it’s time to rope.

The reason for the delay on the ‘draw’ was because of people switching around their entries last minute and waiting for people to buy their cards. If the draw is already completed and a change needs to be made, there will have to be an entire re-draw. So thank your fellow ropers for the hold up, not the secretary 😊

I hope this was informative, please leave a comment on this post with your input… (keyboard warriors and people that do not plan on attending can keep their comments and input to themselves)

Thanks everyone…

Clint

These beautiful trophy stirrups (sponsored by Western Specialties Pro Shop ~ Maureen McHugh) arrived the day after the No B.S. Team Roping after a lengthy time of being lost in the mail. I just wanted to show everyone what they looked like. I won a set a long time ago, they ride amazing and are still one of my most prized possessions. Duke Wilkie and Alejandro Peters be watching the mail 😊

©️Team Roping has now set the bar for team roping in Canada with the No B.S. Team Roping. The idea I had was very well received not only from the ropers who entered, but the incredible sponsors who generously donated prizes and added money. There were competitors that travelled from Chilliwack, BC to Swift Current, Sk and as far north as Grande Prairie all the way south into Montana. We ended up getting the 500 teams we set out for which maximized the payout. Thank you so much to the ropers for navigating thru the learning curve of pre-entering/pre-paying. This greatly reduces office congestion and the payout gets calculated before the roping even begins. Huge shout out to my right hand thru this whole ordeal Rachel Rehaluk for running the office and keeping everything organized, Johnathan Cole for announcing, Beth and Dani for working as timers/secretaries (and putting up with Johnny), Rob Rooke and Ken Boniface for slugging it out at the chute, Adam Poland and Ed Dingreville for pushing up cattle, Destry Rhodes for being an absolute work horse at the strip chute ALL DAY. Also thank you to Brady Vangelderen and Carl Woods for your assistance getting the cattle out of the arena. I’m sure I’m missing someone (only because my memory is horrible…) thank you. If anyone is wanting pictures from the roping Lorie Inglis (Photos by Lorie) will have them up shortly. You can message her directly for pricing etc.

This roping paid out $92,000 cash and prizes IN ONE DAY… that’s 92%!!! Stay tuned for details about the next ©️Team Roping happening in April 2024… The ©️orriente Roundup (I’ll be giving away 20 fresh roping cattle to the jackpot champions). This roping will be opened up to 1,000 teams, format and entry fees are yet to be determined. The sponsor side pot will also be happening at this roping aswell, so start saving your money and lining up partners. Poster will be out after Christmas.
Have a great winter everyone,

Clint Buhler

As you load up today or tomorrow to make your way to Claresholm, remember to load up in your trailer with the Hoofgrip flooring. The winning header and heeler of the No B.S. Team Roping will each receive an extra $1,000 cash bonus if they have a Hoofgrip floor in their trailer ~ AND THE TRAILER IS AT THE ROPING. If you’re on the fence about spending the money on the upgrade, I’m here to tell you that I have never regretted it… not once. I use mine every single day… cattle, horses, panels, pallets, chicken coops, lumber…really anything that’ll fit. My floor is in as great of shape as it was the day I picked it up from Dan. I’ll have my stock trailer on display by the main door at the roping and the slider door will be open. Feel free to jump in and check it out. I have the new sealed version, designed to be used with shavings. Thank you Dan Imler (Revamp Rubber Surfaces) and Colter Macdonald (Hoofgrip) for putting up the cash bonus!!!

I am completely overwhelmed by the show of support from my fellow team ropers and their willingness to contribute to this No B.S. Team Roping. In light of this, Buhler Beef will be donating 1 side of Premium Finished Longhorn Beef to one lucky business owner (or person) who sponsored the No B.S. Team Roping. The winner’s name will be pulled from a hat just prior to the short round starting at 7:30pm. The winner does not have to be in attendance to claim their prize, they will be contacted after the roping if they are not there (the beef will not physically be there, we will set a mutually convenient date in the future). Thanks everyone!! Clint

Dusti with Grey Horse Clothing Co. will be on hand at the No B.S. Team Roping with merchandise for sale as well as taking orders for embroidery. Be sure to swing by her booth and have a chat about bringing your brand to life! She will also have some delicious Buhler Beef pepperoni and jerky snacks for sale to get you thru the day. Proceeds from the pepperoni and jerky snacks are going towards the purchase a shorty roping dummy for A.B. Daley Elementary school in Nanton. The kids at the school have been bit by the roping bug and are allowed to have a dummy there to rope at lunch and recess 😊.
