A HUGE shout out to everyone who organized, attended & donated at this event! An amazing $2800 was raised for animals in our care - thank you so much!! ❤️🐾

🐶 We have a lot of thank yous to say after this past Canine Watersports weekend, but first, we are so absolutely blown away by the $2800.00 that was raised for Ontario SPCA Lennox and Addington Animal Centre! The generosity of this community continues to warm our hearts, and we're so thankful that we've been able to make a difference for the animals at the shelter in Napanee. Thank you thank you thank you to everyone who contributed. 💜

Every animal deserves a loving home. At the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society, we strive to find a home for each animal that comes into our care, no matter how long it takes. Unfortunately, some animals are overlooked by adopters and it takes them a little longer before they walk out our doors with their new family. 🏡

We refer to animals who have been in our care for over 30 days as long-term residents. To help these furry friends find their home, we have added a frame with the “long-term resident” designation around the photos of these animals on our adoption page. If you have been thinking about adopting, consider a long-term resident! 🐾

Have a safe and happy Canada Day!

Here are some tips to keep your furry friends safe during the celebrations:

· Keeping animals indoors during firework displays, making sure to close windows and doors. If you need to take your dog outside, keep them leashed at all times to prevent them from bolting and becoming lost.

· Making sure your pet is wearing a properly fitted collar and ID tags. Microchipping is also encouraged to help increase the chances of being reunited with your pets if they become lost.

· Walking your dog before it gets dark to avoid going outside once the fireworks start.

· Having a safe place for your fur baby to feel at ease.

· Blocking out flashing lights by keeping curtains and blinds closed or by placing a blanket over your animal’s crate.

· Turning on the TV or play quiet music to help drown out the noise.

· Even if your dog doesn’t show signs of distress, resist the urge to bring them with you to watch a fireworks display. Dogs are far more sensitive to the sounds and smells produced by fireworks than we are and would be happier in the quiet of their home.

· If you have an animal who has a history of fear with fireworks, consider speaking to your veterinarian about support options.
