Wink came in a couple weeks ago for a dental cleaning and possibly some dental extractions.
We started off by taking a good look at all the teeth, if there were any missing, broken, or loose. Then moved on to x-rays.
In Winks case she had what we thought was a missing canine tooth but once we looked at the X-rays they revealed that the root was still there.
Dental X-rays are very important for cases like these and even for teeth that look normal but the roots might be diseased on X-ray.
After the veterinary took out the diseased and broken teeth, she sutured up the open spaces and the remaining teeth were cleaned up with an ultrasonic scaler and polished 🦷

Everyone meet Miss Nova,
Nova’s mom noticed a chocolate chipped sized lump on her leg one day. She brought her in to see us and our vet took what’s called a fine needle aspirate. This is done by sticking a needle into the lump and collecting cells to look under the microscope.
Our doctor saw some concerning cancerous cells so she then decided to take a biopsy of the lump while Nova was sedated and comfortable and send it away to the lab for a more in depth look. These results showed that it was a Grade 2 mast cell tumour.
By getting the level of the tumour this helps the Vet determine the amount of surrounding tissue that needs to be taken to get clean margins and get all the cancer.
Nova then got the whole lump removed and because of the extra tissue that needed to be taken the incision was not able to be closed. So Nova came in every other day to have bandage changes done and the skin is slowly healing by second intention.
Nova has been a trouper through this whole process and even sporting some Halloween bandages 👻

Nova would like pet owners to know that you should be feeling your pets all over for any new lumps or bumps and have your vet take a look at their annual exams or book an appointment to have them take a look. In Nova’s case, quick action in removing this lump was a huge part in her cancer free outcome 💜

Ticks are in full swing still !
Did you think it was time to stop tick prevention because of the weather change??
All these ticks were pulled from an indoor/outdoor cat yesterday!
Make sure you are doing a check of your pets after they come in from outside and staying up to day on flea and tick prevention 🙂

Mental health matters to us!

When our team has a minute between appointments or at the end of a long stressful day, we focus on our mental health.

Back in the spring, we started going on group walks during our lunch break and we decided to colour our walls! Great stress relief and awesome for mental health!

What are you doing to focus on yourself?

Love pets and veterinary medicine? What if you loved your job, too, Doctor?

We could list our state-of-the-art equipment and high standards of care; tell you about our amazing independent small animal clinic in Napanee and our recent complete renovation, but what really matters is finding a place where you can enjoy your work.

It’s not just about the paycheque. It’s about:
- spending your days with a community of colleagues and staff who have each other’s backs.
- being a poet, a weightlifter, a pony driver. And a baseball player, golfer, mother, pet owner, entrepreneur, or artist.
- sharing laughter and tears, sometimes ice cream and the occasional goat walk.
- committing to inclusivity and compassion, striving to be better each day.
- respecting one another, even if we disagree. Especially if we disagree.
- listening closely to the patients who have no one to speak for them, like Mojo and Dorothy, Ruby Doo and Teeter; ensuring they have a voice and a comfortable space.
- learning something new today and sharing it tomorrow.
- going home each day knowing you’ve done your best, even if it wasn’t perfect.
It’s about care, heart, and love.
