Never leave your pet alone in the car. And always look before you lock!

Even on mild summer days, temperatures can become dangerously hot. Leaving the air conditioning on or the windows down are still not good options as your pet can still become anxious and overheated if left alone. The best thing is to just leave your pet at home where they are comfortable and safe. Take a look at just how hot your car can get in a matter of minutes.

If you're out and about with your dog this Summer be sure to check your pets' paws for grass seeds. They can easily become embedded and cause infection.
After little Lizzy had been walking along the rail trail in Grand Forks with her family they found several of those sneaky seeds in her paws but were unable to remove them all before they caused an abscess.
They brought her in to see us & we were able to remove them & send her home with some anti-biotics & pain relief.
We are happy to report that Lizzy is now doing well.

At the West Kootenay BC SPCA, we offer so much more than animal adoptions. Our incredible team is here every day to better serve the animals in our care as well as the community. We ask that when visiting our center, our staff and volunteers are treated respectfully and with kindness.

Currently, our center is managing a large number of animals, and we are at capacity. We would appreciate if visitors could make an appointment so that our staff are better prepared to serve you!

To help us as we navigate through the summer months, please consider volunteering to support our team, or making a donation to the center. As a non-profit, we are always in need of donations to help us offer an excellent quality of care to the animals. We thank you for being supporters of the BC SPCA!

Please find sweet Callie a home. She has been in care for 122 days now.

Callie is a sweet senior girl who is looking for her forever home. Callie and her previous owner were thick as thieves but due to health concerns, Callie had to be surrendered. Callie would love a home with no other animals where she can connect with her owner and get back to having a human best friend. She loves to cozy up your lap for some pets. Despite her age, she is also very playful. We know this girl is going to make a great companion!

With Canada Day coming up, and one of the most popular holidays for fireworks, be sure to keep an eye on your pets. The loud noises from fireworks can scare them and cause anxiety.

Still looking for a cat-free home for Gemma! We really hope the right family is out there. She is the perfect dog with people, in the home and on car rides. Good with kids and very well mannered. She isn’t great meeting other dogs but makes friends once they know each other. We understand this would be a struggle for folks who are out walking busy places every day but surely there is a family with large property or quiet backroads they can walk her on. She’s good on and off leash as well!

"what's a dog gotta do to get service around here"?

Sabastian is a very handsome, pedigree, champion, Rough Collie. He knew that if he waited patiently at the reception counter and was a very good boy then he would get a delicious beef liver treat. He was right ! 🦴
