Wondering how to tell if your dog or cat has dental disease?
Take a look at some of the most common signs. It’s always best to bring your pet in at least once a year to have their mouth and teeth examined for any issues or early signs of disease.

Logan is an 11-year-old who had some 'fatty lumps' (aka Lipomas) that his owner thought should be removed in case they were impeding his mobility.
Logans owner was very suprised by the size of his fatty lumps when they were removed because only part of the lump was visible from the exterior of his body & she had no idea how large they were.
He has made a full recovery (here's a photo of him recovering in his kennel at Selkirk) and can move more freely now that they are gone.

Approximately 16% of middle-aged to geriatric dogs are predisposed to be affected by lipomas, so they are not uncommon, but should always be checked out by a veterinarian in case they are cancerous or need to be removed.

It is not uncommon for community cats to seek warmth under the hood of cars during the winter which can cause them serious injury when you start your vehicle. During these colder winter months, it’s best to knock on the hood or sound your horn before starting your engine.

Because of its sweet taste, antifreeze is unfortunately a common pet toxin in the winter. Be sure to look out for antifreeze spills around your car, driveway and garage and clean them up immediately. If you think your pet has ingested antifreeze, you should call your veterinarian or an emergency veterinarian right away.

We had a Tiger in the hospital today 🐯
Her name was Pip, she was adopted from the SPCA and her family brought her in for her spay surgery.
Many pets do not enjoy wearing the big plastic cone after their surgery and owners opt to use a surgical recovery suit instead. Recovery suits are better for preventing accidental rubbing on stitches or an open wound and feel much more comfortable to the wearer than a cone. Plus, they look way cuter in a suit you'd have to agree. 🥰

Amber is not a fan of the cold weather, she prefers to stay indoors & snuggle instead. Make sure you keep your pets warm during this cold spell that we are experiencing. Despite their fur coats, cats and dogs get cold when the temperature drops, and they may experience increased discomfort or become more susceptible to illness.
If it’s too cold outside for you, it’s too cold for your pet, is a good thumb rule to keep in mind.🥶🐾
Stay warm everyone !

As people may have more Vitamin D supplements in their home during the winter months, be sure to keep it out of reach of your pets. Vitamin D supplements are toxic to cats and dogs.

Take a look at the most common signs of Vitamin D poisoning (which can sometimes take hours to manifest). If you think your pet has ingested vitamin D, you should take them to your veterinarian or nearest emergency hospital right away.
