From those midnight emergencies to the routine vaccination appointments and the comfort that they provide to families at their time of loss and grief. 🐾
They all work tirelessly, often without the recognition that they truly deserve. 🎖

Little seven-month-old kitten, Max, got himself into some serious trouble last week.
He managed to find a fun fish to play with at home & didn't realize that it was attached to a nasty fishing hook which became embedded into both his front paws. Luckily his family spotted it right away and rushed him in to see us. He was immediately sedated and we managed to get both hooks out with no issues at all.
Maybe it's time Max found a new hobby and gave fishing a miss. 🪝🐟

Like most of our vets here, Dr. Gagnon (Maude) developed a deep love for animals at a very young age and her mind was set on becoming a veterinarian when she was just 10 years old!
She graduated from vet school at the university of Montreal and worked at a few vet hospitals in that area before moving across Canada to the Kootenays. She has been serving the horse community here for many years now and has been part of our Selkirk family for 10 years.
Maude enjoys helping both animals and their owners and she likes the variety that her job as a Veterinarian offers along with the problem solving aspect of it when cases and solutions are not immediately obvious. She also enjoys performing surgeries because they require intricate, manual skills and offer a different aspect to the role.
When Maude is not here helping your pets she can be found outdoors somewhere fully embracing the Kootenay lifestyle to the max. She enjoys riding and caring for her horse, Silhouette, as well as ski-ing, hiking, climbing, biking and camping. If she ever stays still for more than one minute she might be seen playing her guitar or reading a book with her rescue cat, Butternut, on her lap.

Every time your pet comes to see us we like to check their current weight - as demonstrated here by Rudy.
To make this process easier and less daunting for your dog we have installed floor level scales and have a huge bag of treats ready to tempt them onto the scales and reward them with afterwards.
By weighing your pet on a regulars basis we can be sure that they are eating the correct amount of food and make any necessary adjustments to their diet. It alerts us to any major change in weight that could signal a health issue. It also allows us to dispense the correct dose of any medications they may need.
If you think that your dog may be afraid of the hospital or the scales then we encourage you to drop by for a weigh-in so that they can see it's not that scary after all and there's plenty of free treats on offer as a reward for their bravery. 🐾🎖
