Be aware of potential hazards for pets this holiday season ๐Ÿถ๐ŸŽ„
1. Christmas Tree Water
The water under your tree is only for the tree to drink - not your pup! Doing so could cause diarrhea or vomiting. Many trees contain preservatives and fertilizers to keep them fresh which leeches into the water it sits in. Additionally, needles can be toxic if ingested by your pet.
2. Poinsettia's, Holly, Mistletoe, and Lilies
All of these festive florals are unfortunately toxic to pets - so make sure they are high up and out of reach!
3. Tinsel, garland, and ribbon
Keep a close eye on your felines around anything shiny and stringy - or they might ingest it behind your back!
4. Candles
Lit candles + pets = a recipe for disaster! Never leave them burning unattendedโ€”your critters might investigate!
5. Lights, wires, outlets
Many pets like shiny or dangly toys - make sure all plugs, cords, and electrical is in good working order and free of tangles and loose ends to avoid a mishap.
6. Glass bulbs
Any glass ornaments or bulbs should be kept out of reach of dogs and cats - mistaking it for a toy ball could result in cuts or scrapes!
7. Chocolate and xylitol
Chocolate is a holiday staple, but itโ€™s a big no for pets! Lock it up tight and watch out for xylitol in candies, gum, and certain peanut butters โ€”sometimes labelled as โ€œbirch sugarโ€โ€”which is extremely toxic in small amounts.
8. Fatty foods
Sharing is caring, but donโ€™t let your furry buddy go overboard with the holiday feast! A little taste is fine, but moderation is key!
9. Gifts under the tree with food
No food gifts under the tree if you have pets! Theyโ€™ll sniff out anything wrapped and might go on a delicious heist!
10. Cooked bones
Cooked bones are a hard pass! They turn into sharp, brittle hazards that could lead to some serious vet visits!
11. Alcohol and Cannabis
Keep all the festive spirits and green goodies well out of paw's reach! Especially when they're disguised in a chocolatey coating.
12. Macadamia nuts
Those tasty macadamia nuts may be a holiday treat for you, but theyโ€™re toxic for your pets! Keep them away for a pawsitively safe season!

Kennel Cough (Canine infectious respiratory disease complex) has been circulating the area this season. The first line of defense for your pet is the Bordetella vaccine, which is most effective when given in the nose, but is also available in an oral or injectable vaccination. Since the virus and bacteria that cause Kennel Cough adapt and mutate so frequently, this vaccination requires a yearly booster. Since Kennel Cough likes to throw a party with a mix of pesky viruses and bacteria, the vaccine isn't a superhero that guarantees youโ€™ll dodge it completely. But fear not! Vaccinated pups are way more likely to experience just a sniffle instead of a full-blown barking fit. Plus, itโ€™s a great way to give those furry friends a better shot at steering clear of this common canine cold!

Why is wearing a cone so important?
If your pet has had surgery, wounds, or hot spots, chances are, you've used a cone before. Although it can be a little awkward adjusting to the extra accessory, it's crucial to keep it on for the duration recommended by your Veterinarian. ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ
As a wound or incision heals, it can become very itchy, triggering your pet to want to lick, chew, and scratch at the area. This can cause the wound or incision to reopen, posing risk to infection or further damage. Typically, it can take 10-14 days for a basic incision or wound to heal, but your Veterinarian may recommend a longer duration depending on the issue. Keeping it on for what may seem like an eternity is vital to ensuring your pet heals fully, saving you money and stress in the long run!
Pictured here is our lovely client Luna, who was a champion modelling off her ginormous cone while her wounds healed up! ๐Ÿ’œ
