Planning a getaway? ☀ Don’t forget to take care of your fur baby while you’re away!

If you're leaving your pet in the care of a sitter, please remember to:

1️⃣ Let us know who your pet sitter is — this helps us keep things organized and ensures we're in the loop if your pet needs anything while you're away! 2️⃣ Provide medical permission — in case of an emergency, we'll need your approval to provide any necessary treatment.

Give us a call or stop by the clinic to update your pet’s info! We’re here to make sure your pet gets the best care, even while you’re out of town. 🌟

Safe travels and happy vacationing! ✈

Antifreeze, commonly used in vehicles to prevent the coolant from freezing in cold weather, poses a significant danger if ingested by animals, even in small amounts. Pets are often attracted to antifreeze because of its sweet taste, making accidental ingestion a serious concern.

If you suspect antifreeze poisoning, get your pet to a veterinarian immediately—timely treatment can save their life.

During the cold weather our furry friends tend to curl up in warm places such as space heaters, baseboard heaters, fireplaces, or even car engines. When they are exposed to extreme heat sources thermal burns can occur.

Signs of Thermal Burns in Animals
• Redness or blistering, Hair loss, Swelling or open wounds, Paw injuries etc.

Proper care, preparation, and vigilance during cold months can help keep your pet safe and comfortable from both cold-induced injuries and thermal burns.

Did you know like humans’ dogs and cats and sometimes our equine patients are vulnerable to frostbite. Prolonged exposure to cold temperatures can lead to damage of the skin, tissues, and extremities which can range from mild to severe.

Which areas are most affected by frostbite? Make sure to check your pets’ ears, paws, tail and noses, and avoid taking pets outside in freezing weather for extended periods. Short, frequent walks are better than long outdoor sessions.

Frostbite can be severe, and early intervention can help minimize the damage. If you live in an area with extreme cold weather, always be mindful of your pet’s needs and health during winter months.

"Train Your Dog Month" is an annual event held every January to promote dog training, responsible pet ownership, and to encourage pet owners to start or enhance their dogs' training.

Improving behavior, strengthening bonds, safety, mental stimulation, and socialization are important strategies to work on with your furry friends. Whether you're working on basic commands, addressing behavior issues, or just having fun with new tricks, training builds a stronger relationship with your pet and helps them become a better-behaved, more confident companion.

The holidays are a time to gather around the table with family where there is always plenty to eat, does this include your pets? Unfortunately, even the best doggos can get into trouble by eating holiday foods that are toxic to pets. Here's a list of what dogs not to give at Christmas dinner, followed by a list of safer alternatives:

X No:

Many pet parents are aware the chocolate is a big “NO” for dogs, but less are aware that it is even more dangerous to cats.

Cooked poultry or ham bones present a choking hazard to pets and could potentially block a bowel

Stuffing can contain salt, pepper, and other seasonings known to trigger gastrointestinal issues in pets. Garlic, onion and other members of the allium family are things that dogs should never consume

√ Safe Alternatives:

Dogs can have Christmas turkey/chicken meat if it’s plain without seasoning and cooked all the way through.

Dogs can’t eat holiday desserts, but sweet potatoes are a healthier alternative to white potatoes, and they taste super yummy to most canine palettes.

Dogs can eat carrots and enjoy many of the same benefits humans do. They’re safe to serve either cooked or raw as a low-calorie treat.

Our last senior pet of the year, everyone meet Porcha!

This is Porcha! She's 9 years old this year! She's a little camera-shy, as you can tell. But off camera she loves the attention. She loves to cuddle and curl up on your lap on chilly winter nights. When she's not cuddling, her favorite activities include: getting her cheeks scratched, begging for scraps of chicken, keeping watch on the neighbourhood from the windows, and blocking our dog from going up the stairs.
