Curious Snoots Dog Walking

Mistakes = Information 😌 Not too long ago, I took a dog training course where i was taught to see “errors as learning” and my life hasn’t been the same since. I think this is a deeper concept that goes beyond dog training. This little mindset shift has helped me in my personal life, my business life and, of course, when working with dogs. Us humans, we tend to want things quick and instant. That’s why we get frustrated when mistakes happen. But mistakes give us a sh*t ton of information to do it better next time—if we’re smart enough to see beyond our hurt egos (easier said than done). Now, I try to see every mistake as an opportunity to get more information about the thing that I’m trying to achieve. My belief is that the more information I gather from my fails, the more accurate my approach will be in the future 😉 Here’s just a little test of how I try to apply that mindset to my dog training. Again, not always easy but ALWAYS worth it! Ps. It’s all about the journey, not the destination 😉 I constantly record myself working with my dogs because I see every interaction with them as an opportunity to learn. To improve. To get better at my craft. Just in this video, I see SO MANY THINGS I could’ve done better. The perfectionist in me can get frustrated by that but I constantly remind myself that dogs don’t expect perfection from us. They are masters of enjoying the process! Look at Annie’s face here, she’s just happy we’re doing whatever this is. She’s happy we’re engaging. She’s happy we’re working together. That’s why we do this. That’s why we train. Dog walker problems p.2: testing the apron 🤓 Felt like I owed you the final review of my new gear system and I’m happy to report…it passed the test (full day, heavy rain) with high notes 🙌 Now, can someone PLEASE recommend some good waterproof shoes? Stella is not a big fan of strangers and I’ve been honour with the opportunity to try and show her that strangers can be fun, too! I take these kinds of tasks very seriously 🫡 This is one of the things I enjoy doing the most, helping fearful dogs learn that the world is a bit more safe than they think. That they can relax and enjoy life a bit more 💜 I swear, the moment I finally see them moving and playing, is like food to my soul 🥰 This is just my second visit to this cute girl but so much progress already—I’m sure we’re gonna be best friends in no time :) #dogwalker #dogtrainer #dogswithbigfeelings

Found this rocky patch on our way to the park this morning and couldn’t miss the opportunity to do this little exercise with Cooper. I do this anytime I find an interesting surface dogs can safely walk on 😛 It’s such a simple (yet awesome!) way to add more mental stimulation and awareness to what would otherwise be a boring old walk.
