🚨 URGENT: LYLE NEEDS A HERO! 🚨 Please watch to the end!!

Lyle, a 1-year-old Shepherd mix, has spent his entire life in the shelter. He has never known a real home of his own. 💔

We’ve pleaded for help for Lyle before, and last month, a wonderful foster stepped up. In that short time, Lyle proved he is an amazing dog—he learned housetraining in just two days, does not get into trouble indoors, and gets along great with their dog. He is smart, loving, and just wants to belong.

But now, Lyle is out of time. 😢 His foster, due to their age, can no longer keep up with the energy of a young dog, and in just a few short days, Lyle will be returning to the shelter—a place that has already caused him severe kennel stress.

We cannot let this be his fate again. He needs a new foster or adopter IMMEDIATELY. Someone who can give him the love and stability he has been searching for his whole life.

THINGS THAT MAKE OUR HEARTS HAPPY....OSCAR HAS A FRIEND!! 😍

Oscar and Misty are both 3-legged Shepherds. Oscar came into our care back in November and had to have his leg amputated. Misty came into the shelter at the beginning of January and unfortunately had to undergo the same procedure.😢They are both incredibly SWEET DOGS and HUGE staff favourites!!

Since he came to us, Oscar has been very anxious (but not aggressive) around other dogs and hadn't made a backyard buddy yet. When Misty came in, we knew we had to make this friendship happen!

It's official! Friends at first sight, Oscar and Misty bonded instantly. On this beautiful day, we thought we'd share a little piece of those moments of joy at the shelter. Although we hope it won't be too long before they each find a forever home, we're excited that they'll be able to socialize while they're with us.

Happy Caturday!!🐈‍⬛ Here are three of our friendliest felines, guaranteed to ✨brighten✨ even the coldest, darkest days.

🥰 Granite is a 5 month old sweet ball of fluff with a unique trait - a birth defect left her without one of her hind feet. That doesn't slow this kitty down though! She makes friends wherever she goes and is patiently waiting for all the cuddles someone like you can give her.

😇 Caramel is a 1 year old handsome boy who can't wait to make your home that much sweeter! This quirky little guy is friendlier than most cats—you’ll often find him seeking out human companionship and even getting along with dogs! His easygoing nature makes him a perfect fit for just about any home.

😎 Penguin is a 2 year old tuxedo cat who proves that you can dress them up, but can't take them out. He's in his best gear 24/7 and still waiting to make his big debut! No worry about social faux pas with this guy. Penguin is a quiet, laid-back companion who enjoys the company of both people and other cats.

🌟 Volunteers of the Month: Betty & JJ! 🌟

This month, we are thrilled to recognize Betty and JJ for their incredible dedication to the cats at the Battlefords Humane Society! 🐾💕

Betty and JJ come in nearly every day to cuddle, comfort, and care for our feline friends in need. From gently brushing out tangled fur to providing endless love and snuggles, their kindness knows no bounds. Watching young JJ develop a deep love for animals is truly heartwarming, and our staff looks forward to seeing this wonderful duo every time they visit.

Meet Maggie – A Loving Great Dane/Lab Mix Looking for Her Forever Home

Maggie is a stunning 5-year-old black Great Dane/Black Lab mix with a heart as big as her paws. On September 22, 2024, she was found abandoned with her seven puppies, severely underweight and struggling to care for them. Despite her hardships, Maggie showed nothing but trust and love from the moment she was rescued.

With dedicated care, she regained her health and flourished into the happy, playful, and affectionate girl she is today. All of Maggie’s puppies have found loving homes, but she is still waiting for hers. She adores car rides, cuddles, playing with other dogs, and spending time outdoors with a companion. While she does well with dogs, her reaction to cats is unpredictable.

Maggie needs a home without cats, with someone experienced in handling large breeds, and who will cherish her unconditionally. She has so much love to give—could you be the one to give her the forever home she deserves?

🐾 Meet Mau – The Sweetest Little Survivor Looking for Love! 🐾

Mau’s journey hasn’t been an easy one. She was found with her siblings, but before she could make it to safety, she disappeared. Two weeks later, she was discovered starving and hiding in a chicken coop, calling out “Mau!” for help—earning her the name she carries today. Now safe, healthy, and well-fed, Mau has traded her once-loud cries for a soft, delicate voice that she uses only when needed.

This 1-year, 8-month-old Medium Hair Domestic Mix is an affectionate and gentle soul who loves to nap near her favorite humans. She once had a beloved brother who found his forever home long ago, and now it’s her turn. Though she’s had feline siblings in the past, she’s decided she’d rather be the queen of her castle, soaking up all the love from her people.

Mau is still waiting for the perfect family to give her the forever home she deserves. Could that be you?

UPDATE: We have been able to track down a good amount of puppy food, but would still appreciate kitten food. :)

The shelter is critically low on kitten and puppy food! We accept most any brand, but try to keep away from anything that is heavily coloured. Food dyes are harmful to animals' digestive systems.

If you find yourself in a position to drop off a bag or two at the shelter, we would be incredibly grateful! Public hours are from 1pm - 5pm every day.

Mocha came into the shelter as a devoted mama to seven puppies, despite being severely emaciated. We don’t even know how she managed to care for them, but her strength and love kept them alive. 💕 She’s overcome incredible odds—beating multiple illnesses—and is now healthy, happy, and ready for her forever home!

This sweet girl adores other dogs (her tail-tucking, zoomie dance proves it every time! 🏃‍♀️💨) and is a total people-lover. Because she was such a great mom, we believe she’ll be wonderful with kids too. 🥰

Meet Gremlin, the 8-month-old Terrier/Maltese with the fluff of an angel and the spirit of a champion snuggler. When he first arrived at the shelter, he was terrified—we’re talking "hiding like a spy on a secret mission" scared. But after realizing the staff came armed with nothing but love, treats, and belly rubs, Gremlin decided maybe humans weren’t so bad after all.

He thought he found his forever home, but after just two days, he was returned because he wasn’t quite housetrained yet. (Hey, even Cupid had to practice his aim before he became a love expert!) But Gremlin is a smart little guy who just needs a patient family to help him learn the ropes.

Meet Freckles! She is currently our longest canine resident. She ADORES people, but needs a home without other dogs. Check her out!!

Color: Freckles is the color of cinnamon and a creamy wool cardigan, bringing warmth and comfort wherever she goes.

Breed: Best guess? Shepherd/Husky mix

Age: 4 years old

Personality: Super happy to see people; Super cuddly with bright, expressive eyes;
Loves to go for walks and is pretty darn good on a leash

Compatibility: Seems good with cats, not a fit for a household with other dogs. We just don't know how she is with kids yet.

Notes: Freckles is an intelligent dog and is very trainable. She is enthusiastic about going for walks Her affectionate nature and love for cuddles and play make her a wonderful companion for the right home.

UPDATE: Oscar was adopted for ONE DAY and returned through NO FAULT of his own! Please keep sharing!

URGENT: LOVING FOREVER HOME NEEDED FOR OSCAR!!

Oscar was brought into our shelter in November 2024. Staff noticed that he would not use one of his legs. When examined, the vet determined that there was a significant injury to the leg and that it had happened weeks earlier. This brave pup had been living in pain for far too long. The damage to the limb meant that Oscar had to have an amputation.

Oscar was very anxious in the shelter environment and we worried about him a great deal. We were lucky enough to find two kind, loving people who took Oscar into their home in mid-December and have nurtured and trained him ever since. However, these wonderful people now have to move and Oscar is set to come back to the shelter THIS WEEKEND!

We are DESPERATE to find Oscar a great home before his shelter anxiety undoes all the progress he has made.

Oscar is an AMAZING GOOD BOY! You don't have to believe us, HERE IS WHAT HIS FOSTERS SAY ABOUT OSCAR:

"I thought to try cuddles and petting as a reward (for training) and he learned to 'sit' in about 10 minutes. Then he picked up 'stay' instantly..."

"He's learning faster than any dog I've ever met! He's so attentive to us, smart, and eager to please."

"...he's full of never-ending love...Shooting photos was hard because...he'd want to come up close and cuddle aganst me! We've not seen even the tiniest hint of aggression from him, even if he finds discarded food on walks and I take it away from him. He's just gentle and loving...he doesn't have a mean bone in his body!"

"...he instantly loves every person he meets."

"Oscar LOVES the crate! He chooses to go into it himself, usually bringing a toy, bunches up the blankets...just the way he wants them, and falls asleep..."

"Such a loving and funny dog: His latest trick is that if his water bowl is empty, he picks it up in his mouth, walks over to us, and drops it at our feet."

Dogs? Pretty anxious, but with the right gentle companion it may work.
Cats? Curious and friendly
Adults? AMAZING!
Kids? Never been tested, but we suspect his loving nature would make him a good family dog with loving, gentle little playmates.
