Last but certainly not least, welcome Britney!

Watching Britney grow during the 2025 has been one of my highlights, seeing her gain confidence and building a relationship with her horse was something that didn’t go unnoticed.

Britney is always wanting to educate herself more, and putting the horse first is why she will make such an amazing asset to the team!

We can’t wait to watch you continue to develop this year Britney ☺️

Welcome back to the 2025 team AnnMarie!
Over the last year I’ve watched AnnMarie reach her goals, and strive for only the best for her horses, seriously this girl goes above and beyond even though she’s away at school she’s still making sure her horses are getting bodywork!

I’m so excited to watch AnnMarie, and her horses get to where they want to be in the 2025 season!

Welcome to the team Audrey!

Audrey has been a huge supporter since I’ve started Feel Free Therapy, giving me the opportunity to do work on her mares many many times! Over the past 2 years I’ve watched Audrey develop not only as a rider, but also her horsemanship, always doing her homework stretches, reaching out for advice on exercises to do to help different muscles, and giving me updates on both of her mare’s development! I am so thrilled to have Audrey on the team for our 2025 sponsored riders♥️

Struggling to find the perfect gift for your coach, barn owner, or friend? Give the gift that keeps on giving!

Gift cards are a perfect way to say thank you, and it’s surely something they will use to keep their horse feeling their best🤍

This is one of my favourite exercises to build pectoral muscles and help strengthen the thoracic sling!
It’s definitely harder than it looks😉

“As the horse coordinates his limbs to abduct and straddle the pole, he releases tension from his bottom muscle chain. He also activates the deep hip stabilizing muscles, which play a cybernetic role communicating to the brain about a limb’s position and tonicity.

1. Place a single pole on flat ground. Ideally, the pole should be 10 to 12 feet in length.
2. Lead your horse to approach the pole straight from one end.
3. Pause briefly for a second or two to ensure your horse is listening well and not rushing.
4. Now very gently, one tiny step at a time, lead him forward with the pole under his midline.
5. Stop when he is fully straddling the pole and give him a pause to settle in that position.
6. Now ask him to take one step backwards, continuing to straddle the pole. Then bring him one step forward again.
7. Continue this motion of stepping him backwards and forwards while straddling the pole.”

By Jec Aristotle Ballou from her article “Building Stronger Horses: Stability Before Strength” www.horsejournals.com/riding-training/english/dressage/building-stronger-horses

This exercise is much more challenging than it looks and sounds, so I will often just start with the front legs only and have the horse stand relaxed with no back and forward walking when introducing this exercise for the first few times.

Mud season is hard on our horses muscles, tendons, ligaments, literally everything!
A simple slip in mud can do some nasty damage to your horses body, walking through slippery ground or shifty footing is tricky, your horses body will compensate and become sore if you’re not ontop of the situation!
Let’s chat about keeping your horse comfortable during mud season

It’s not something we want to think about, but it’s something we need to think about.

Winter is hard on horses, let them go on a good day 🤍

What does it really mean to "let them go on a good day?"

It means it will be your hardest day. It won't matter if you've never done it before, or if you're gifted a dozen good days, each good day is always the hardest one.

It means they won't know what the fuss is about, why they're getting so many treats and extra belly scratches and hugs.

It means you will second guess your decision right up to the very last moment, the very last breath. You'll second guess yourself afterwards.

They'll knicker at you when you arrive, just like any other day.

The weather, perfect. They are content. They look sound today. They are breathing well, eating well, they get up easily enough from a nap in the sun....the list goes on. Whatever issue they struggle with, today they aren't.

Today you euthanize them.

This is what going on a good day means: sending them out while they are happy, while they are healthy, while they are eating well, walking well, etc. You make the choice to do it before an emergency takes the choice away from you, before your horse has to experience any more trauma or pain.

Their last memory will be filled with love.

It'll rip your heart out every time.

We can see the patterns and the increasing trends. We can predict it a little. We can obsess over the past and worry about the future.

Fortunately, horses, all animals, live in the moment. They don't worry about those things. They aren't worried about winter. They aren't worried about July, or allergies, or progressive diseases like cushings or dsld. They don't think about the close calls they've had before, and they certainly aren't thinking about the close calls that are destined to come, as their body continues to age and break down. They just are. They are happy and healthy, or fearful and in pain, on that day, in that moment.

It is the most difficult, most loving gift we are blessed to be able to give.

And that first ice storm will come, that first deep snow, that first heat wave....and you will find a little relief, no longer doubting the choice you made.

They were happy, and safe, and loved. That is all that matters.

It is never easy. ~Kelly Meister, author

We are fast approaching “no stirrups November”
Where riders are encouraged to take their stirrups off their saddle and ride without in attempt to better their seat, core, balance, and lower leg.

Riding without stirrups can be beneficial, but can be detrimental to your horses muscular, and skeletal system…

Please only work with no stirrups for a short period of time, don’t do your entire ride without stirrups. Your horse isn’t meant to be your trampoline, your horse feels everything! If you’re bouncing, or sliding all over, chances are you’ll also relying on your horses mouth for balance, so not only is their back paying for it, their mouths are too!

Be kind to your horse this November (and every day) don’t jump in on this trend just to feel included.

The equine industry is a tough industry, we all want to be on top, there is constant gossiping on the sidelines, others putting people down who aren’t as good as them, body shaming because your body isn’t the “proper” body shape for that discipline, and none of this is ok, nor should it be normalized in the industry.
Finding a balance in the equine industry is something everyone should do, I promise you will love life a lot more, you will be happier, your horse will be happier, and you will be less stressed!
Over the weekend do some self reflection and remember why you got into horses in the first place, we do it because we love it
