Our first lamb of 2016 has arrived. A sweet little boy born at 9:15am and weighing in at a whopping 2.1lbs Miniature babydoll sheep are extra sweet and tiny when they are born.....His mama is very attentive and nurturing and watching them bond is the best excuse to get out of chores!!!

The maternity ward at Millstone Farm is officially open for 2016. The labor and delivery rooms are prepped and our first mama to occupy them is Nia and based on her shape she might be having twins! Now the wait for the arrival of our first lambs.....

To be given the gold seal of approval is a very big deal and here at the farm Punkin, our miniature donkey is the one that gives that approval rating! Once you get past the farm greeters, Elly and Miya, our golden retrievers, you are thoroughly checked out by Punkin! FYI...she readily accepts bribes with a preference for apples and carrots! Today, our Golden retriever puppy, Miya was given the gold seal by Punkin and she is now officially part of the gang. Although she can't hang' with them till she is much older she has their love, even if it is through the fence!

You know that feeling when you have an itch and you can't quite reach it on your own....When you're a miniature donkey you just improvise and the hook for the feeders in the hen picinc shelter are good enough for her! They appeared to do a mighty fine job of giving her neck a scratch! The sound of the hook scratching doesn't sound too "spa" like to me but when you watch her lips she is clearly enjoying it!

Being the Millstone Farm greeter is a big job that's filled with lots of responsibilities...wagging your tail, sitting on the front porch, getting petted, going to each person that arrives and greeting them and alerting the humans to things that are out of the norm....when you are a dog at 13 you need some young recruits to help you out...cause sometimes getting up off the porch is just too darn much work.....so we have hired another greeter to help Elly out...she is a sweetie and looks forward to meeting you when you come to the farm.

Our family was blessed with another beautiful baby boy...welcome to the world Hudson Kelly Walker! Congratulations Melia and Cam...we are bursting with grandparent joy...amazing to have 4 daughters and now 4 grandsons!

We're working on a whole new ad for Volvo....'cause when you live in the country it's not the number of passengers you can take in your SUV that matters...it's all about the number of hens, dogs, miniature sheep and hay bales you can fit in!!

A walk through the farmlands this afternoon to see all the new buds on the trees and the flowers that are out in full bloom.....but it was this majestic oak tree that really caught my attention!

Not all bathrooms are decked out with fancy tubs and humans enjoying luxurious bubble baths! When you come to the farm...you just might find a sheep having a nice bath in the tub!! But before you say "yucky," you need to hear why.....We just went through an intense few days of desperately searching for one of our little ewes who went missing in the nasty storms we have been having. We spent 2 days of searching throughout the day and night trying to find her. Today we miraculously found her stuck in the mud and blackberry vines in a huge hole under some tree roots. An absolute miracle to find her alive!! We brought her into the house for the best warm bath she may ever have!!!

With Valentines Day coming soon we had some fun making pastry today...these Pie Pops were a big hit! Limited only by your imagination...we tried apples and homemade caramel sauce, raspberry and peach filling for these treats. Thinking of making savory ones next with brie and fig filling....

While working on our wooden packaging I was deep in thought listening to an inspiring podcast when I heard some chickens clucking nearby...I turned around on the stool to find a bunch of hens standing at the window staring in at all the wooden ovals...think they were hoping it was pancake Saturday today!!

Here is a great DIY night light to make with your kids...had a lot of fun making these with our 2 and 3 year old grandsons this weekend. We put moss,twigs, little birds. mommy bird and nest with eggs in the jar. You can customize the scene inside the jar and when the sun goes down and it is dark in the room the solar light comes on and lights up the jar....kids love it and it gives them something to look at as they are falling asleep.

It was chicken coop cleaning day and that tends to add some excitement to the barnyard. The animals stand and watch through the doors and windows of the coop like it is the most exciting thing ever. I get so focused on shovelling and moving shavings in that I forget they are all watching. It is kinda weird when you turn around and there's a whole bunch of animals watching you. I have threatened to put them all to work instead of just standing around but clearly they are not too concerned.
