Private rehoming.
Please contact me in Private and I will forward your information to the appropriate parties.
Quattro 8 years old.
Breed: lagotto romagnolo
Male: intact.
Well trained with obedience, well cared for, 42 pound "truffle dog"; is very smart and easy to train, no resource guarding, can do parallel side by side walks with dogs, has some dog friends. Limited off leash - long line is best, will come back to 3 whistles and a reward of lots of high value treats; however, will be distracted by the ocean and will jump in to swim. Can play fetch with a ball and swim/dive even with other dogs around. Intelligent, has a large vocabulary including the names of his many toys, can learn by watching you, and will pick up routines quickly.
Has done tons of training and still does training. Has competed in scent detection and won. Also, trained on the truffle scent
Easy to Introduce to new people within your home, however will be protective of you outside the home until he gauges someone is safe. He loves his dog walkers and friends. And is affectionate and loving.
Energetic, he loves to go on hikes, loves swimming/diving, the snow and his walks! He's comfortable on outdoor cafe patios as long as there's some space between him and dogs he does not know.
Problems: protective of house and owners from strangers i.e mail man amazon driver, strangers in property or approaching. Dog reactive - has been attacked by several dogs, however is ok with some dogs, especially older and small ones. Needs a slow, playful introduction to dogs he's unsure of and are new to him, particularly since he's intact..
Is a bit sensitive with his paws being touched but will high five. Has a low grade heart murmur that has not been an issue.
Recent events have lead the owner to seek out rehoming due to an incident of owner directed bite reactivity. Understandably the owner has seeked many consultations with trainers, vets and dog specialists. The owner is older and retired, and the trust bond between them has broken as he has only bitten her. She believes he would be best suited to an individual(s) that has strong experiences with reactive dogs but who can also give him a loving life filled with lots of fun activities which she just can't do anymore and where a new trust bond can be formed and he can excel as he gets older.
He still currently walks with his dog walkers who have never had any issues, nor has he had issues with people he's comfortable with.
Everyone in his life thinks he is fabulous, incredibly well trained, fun, loves his people and would do well in a new home with someone who has strong experience with fear driven and leash reactive dogs.
Please be sensitive and kind as it is never easy to rehome a loved one. We are all hoping we can find him his next chapter and loving home.
