This brave cat came into our clinic recently due to his owner noticing bad breath and swelling starting in his chin. During the examination, the doctor was concerned the patient had the beginning of a dental disease called stomatitis.
Unfortunately, it isnβt often clear what causes cats to develop stomatitis but the early warning signs can include halitosis (bad breath), drooling, inappetence due to pain or dropping food while trying to eat. While receiving medications and practicing dental cleaning care can momentarily help decrease some symptoms the only way to treat the issue is for partial to full-mouth dental extractions. While that is a daunting diagnosis, cats are amazingly resilient and can lead full and healthy lives post-extractions!
Oral health in pets is exceptionally important to their overall health and if you have any concerns we recommend contacting us to have a doctor examine your pet.
