Pet of the Month for August is.. Ribbon!! ☀️

Ribbon is always over the moon to be at the clinic, bringing lots of joy to the staff!

Her owners say, “if you want excitement, enthusiasm and boundless energy in a dog, get a Staffie.

Ribbon Ann Bows (Ribbon for short) came to us from HugABull Advocacy and Rescue Society in December 2011. We named her Ribbon because she was a Christmas gift to ourselves and she had a white streak of fur running the length of her face that looked like she was adorned in a ribbon.

From the beginning Ribbon had more life in her than the Energizer Bunny. Hilariously, she was kicked out of her first doggy daycare because she had more energy than either the humans or the other dogs could manage. When we took her on hikes, she dared every dog to chase her and not one could catch her. From 2012 on, Ribbon spent several days a week in the north shore mountains on dog hikes until arthritis slowed her down. Now she loves spending time with her moms, her cats, short walks on Grand Blvd, and sussing out the neighbourhood.

For a dog many mistake for a pit bull, and for such a large, commanding looking dog, Ribbon is a sweetheart. She loves humans, children, all the dogs she met on her hikes and the three kittens she help raise. There is not a mean or aggressive bone in her body. Her incredible wagging tail is the only thing that leaves a lasting memory if it hits a bare leg!
Ribbon’s face is now heather grey and her running days are done but she continues to bring a smile and much affection from all who meet her. And she loves to show off her stuffed pizza, popcorn and fox toys to anyone who wants to share in her delight. Anyone who meets Ribbon always remembers her because they remember how much they enjoyed meeting this joyful, sweet girl with a heart of gold and a tail like a whip.”

Pet of the Month for April is.. Gracie! We love when Gracie visits the clinic, she’s a very friendly, happy girl. Here’s what her family has to say:
“ Gracie was born on Jan. 20th, 2020 at Aldor Acres in Fort Langley. Her Mom, Maggi, is a pure bred border collie and her dad a pure bred Australian Shepherd. She was the tiniest of pups when we first visited to meet the puppies but ever so sweet and cuddly. We adopted her and brought her home the day before the province went into lock down due to Covid. We consider that to be a lucky day and, a day later we wouldn’t have had her for months.
Gracie was a loving, playful pup from day one. She moved into our home and was an instant member of our family. Our cat, Indie, was perhaps not quite as excited at first with this pup who always wanted to play and chase her. Indie was wonderful though. She would strike out with her paw but never were her claws out. She loved to taunt Gracie from the counter stools as Gracie couldn’t reach her, yet!
Gracie has always loved the outdoors. She loves walks on trails and to be in the forest, watching birds fly, playing in water and chasing balls, Frisbee and other toys, especially ones that squeak. It sometimes seems she is trying to protect the toys that make noise, like she thinks they might be hurt. She loves the water though only decided swimming was a thing she wanted to do last spring at 4 years old. Her favorite activity is playing ball – chasing, catching and running. She loves her pals: Kona, Emma, Robbie and others she meets in our travels but both they and their humans are her faves. Other games she loves are the Search game using her very acute sense of smell, tricks for treats.
Gracie loves her people family and visitors. She loves to greet and sing to everyone who comes. At home or on the road, she’s happy so long as she’s with her people. She’s a loving, playful, occasionally challenging but always precious member of our family. “

Our Medical Director, Dr. Cohen, in action! He is examining Ace’s paw with Dental Loups which allows us to get a super close look at areas of interest. Ace is always the best boy and was also being a little camera shy. 🤓 🩵

Pet of the Month for December is.. Gertrude!! 🎄❤️
Here’s what Gertrude’s mom has to say: Meet Gertrude (aka Tiny), our 8-year-old English Bulldog who’s got plenty of sass and even more personality. With a stubborn streak a mile wide, it’s her world, and we’re just lucky enough to live in it. She’s a stick enthusiast, a Mini Wheats and Cheerios connoisseur (with a few dietary restrictions thanks to PLE), and a cuddling expert. Despite her frequent trips to North Shore Vet for arthritis and other purebred perks, Gerty never lets anything slow her down. Funny, fierce, and always ready to give love, she’s the heart of our home—and she knows it!

Pet of the Month for November is.. Scamp!!! Scamp is a very good boy and it is always a pleasure to see him at the clinic! Here’s what his family has to say..
“This 13-year old rescue ‘pup’ is in amazing physical shape, easily walking 5+ km per day on his favourite off-leash trails!  He is a big sniffer and loves to be with his ‘peeps’ – at ALL times.
Scamp is a lucky boy, spending lots of time camping and on family vacations as he’s a great traveller – both in the car AND on airplanes (under the seat in front of us)!
As for favourite treats, Scamp loves his freeze-dried chicken and occasionally he gets puppy pepperoni and BabyBel cheese!  He is still kind of a ‘puppy’ after all! Our family is grateful to have him and appreciates the wonderful care
North Shore Veterinary Clinic provides.”
