Pet of the Month for August is.. Amie!!
Amie is famous at the clinic for always wanting to be held and cuddled during her visits at the clinic. 🐱 Here’s what her family has to say..
Back in 2008, we picked up Amie from a house in White Rock that had over 50 other cats living there.  Amie was placed in our arms where she immediately snuggled in and instantly became a part of our family.  She has always been the sweetest and friendliest cat.  In fact, when she was a kitten, she would follow anyone home that would stop to give her a pat and I’d receive a phone call to “come and get your cat”.  She’s 16 now and has slowed down a lot.  She doesn’t venture far these days.  She enjoys sitting out on the deck watching the world go by, laying in the sun and getting snuggles. She has brought our family so much joy and shown us so much unconditional love. We are truly blessed to be sharing our lives with her.
“Cats choose us, we don’t own them”

Pet of the Month for July is… Hastings!!
Here’s what his pet parents have to say:
Hastings was rescued in Kamloops, and moved to Burnaby. He is 13 years old, and he loves spending his time now a days at Grandma’s house. When he was younger, it was all about chasing squirrels and meeting new friends on walks.  As the years have gone by, he still likes to make new friends on walks, and he also watches the squirrels now. His little sister loves to steal his bed.

Pet of the Month for May is… Gracie!!!

Gracie is a very sweet, easy going girl and it’s always a pleasure to see her at the clinic. She is very loved by her family. Here’s what her family has to say:

Gracie was found by the SPCA, wandering the streets of Prince George and was then relocated to the Vancouver SPCA where she jumped out of the cage and came to live with us at 10 months of age.

Gracie (or “Gracie Petunia” if she’s in trouble … which is virtually never …) is a very sweet, gentle kitty who wouldn’t hurt a fly (… well maybe a fly … she loves the bugging hour at dusk). She’s a little shy, but a scratch under her chin or cheek will produce the sweetest of purrs.

Gracie is 13 1/2 years old and loves to sleep in till noon, but once she’s up and gets that bug in her brain, she can run around the house acting like a 6 year old. Her favourite thing to play with is a scrunched up bill receipt thrown across the room.

She lives with an obnoxiously friendly American Staffordshire Terrior and an 8 month old SPCA kitty, who would both desperately love to play with her, but if Gracie could talk, she would tell you that “all dogs and kittens are dumb” and will have nothing to do with them.

People are struck by the colour of Gracie’s blue eyes and the softness and colouring of her coat (she has a brown patch of fur shaped like a heart on her right side), but if Gracie could talk she would tell you her most beautiful feature is her beautiful fluffy tail. She loves to strut by you and let you grab her tail as she walks by.

Gracie is not only beautiful, she’s smart too. Anything for a treat - Gracie’s repertoire of tricks include Sit, Turn, Around, High Five, Sit Pretty and Roll Over.

Gracie receives the finest of medical care by all the staff at North Shore. If Gracie could talk, she would say “Thank you, each and every one of you! Your friendly and knowledgeable care is very much appreciated.”

Pet of the Month for April is… Sadie!
Sadie has been coming to North Shore Animal Hospital for her whole life. The past 4 years she has been coming monthly due to needing her zycortal injection for Addison’s disease. She loves to come and only thinks about the treats and love that she gets.

Sadie enjoys chasing a ball, going for long walks, playing with her dog friends, and cuddling with her family. She tolerates the cat, who remains the boss.

Pet of the Month for March is… Bruno!!!

Isn’t he cute? Here’s what Bruno’s mom has to say, “We visited a local breeder with our sister (who was the one looking for a puppy) and fell in love with a cockapoo named Bruno. We took him home December 2022 and he has brought so much fun to our family.  Bruno has a big personality, enjoys playing with his toys, cuddling as much as possible and swimming whenever and wherever he can. He is always up for an adventure and is the sweetest dog 💕

Pet of the Month for February is Bodie!!! Bodie did very well at her recent vet visit. Here’s what her pawrents have to say:
Bodie was born into a foster home in Sugar Land, Texas, in October 2015, and was adopted by us in February 2016. She was our first “baby” and is deeply loved by her family. It took her a while to adjust to the addition of 2 chaotic toddlers in her home, but she has since embraced her role as “big sister”.

She is a highly sensitive, gentle soul who you’ll often find quietly padding around the house at night, checking on our two young kids.

Bodie is an agile wee dog who loves to zoom through the forests with her friends while on her group hikes. She has also been known to trail her dad when he goes mountain biking.

Bodie sometimes pretends to be more meek than she really is - she’ll often romp through the house when no one is home, frumping up all the beds and surveying the kids’ expansive stuffy collection.

Bodie is our beloved little ‘shadow’ and we’re eternally grateful that she chose us to be her family.

January Pet of the Month is Eva!

Eva is just 3.5 months old and we adopted her just last month from Chilliwack and she bonded to us very quickly.

She loves to sleep on my lap while I work at the computer. She loves to play with her butterfly toy on a string and pulls it along by herself. She also is a very confident climber and likes to sit on my shoulders. We also find her stealing our socks. She is a very affectionate and playful kitten and we are so happy to have her join our family.

November’s Pet of the Month!
Honey is a patient of ours that we are always excited to see! Honey’s pawrent says, "Honey came to us from a rescue and very quickly won our hearts.

She is vision impaired but you'd barely think so seeing her play and explore with her adopted brother PB.
"HC" as we call her, or Honey Cat, is an FIP survivor! With VOKRA and North Shore Vet's help, love, and support she has been cured for over two years and has become a very sweet and affectionate cat.

Her hobbies are sitting at the table and watching us eat, playing in the cube and tube with PB, and hanging out in her catio."

PET OF THE MONTH-January

Happy New Year to everyone! We’re starting this year off with a bang!

Our PET OF THE MONTH for January is the sweetest little pug named Stella! You may have seen her cruising around the clinic in her stroller! She is so loved by her family, here’s what they have to say about her….

“We got Stella when she was 12 weeks old. She is just a huge delight to have in our family. Stella is lovable, sweet and the cutest pug ever. She loves to go to the lakehouse and lounge on the deck, bark at the ducks in the summer and the ski doos in the winter. She loves to spend time with her friend Madeleine. Stella is now 9 yrs old and since October has been unable to walk. She has just has back surgery to relieve her compressed spinal cord. It has only been two weeks and she is showing a little bit of improvement each day. She is still unable to walk but we are hoping ,praying and working hard with physio. Stella is in a stroller right now and we are managing just fine. To us she is a gift every day and we love her to bits.”

We are all sending Stella our best wishes and healing thoughts! We hope to see you walking soon Stella! ❤️❤️

PET OF THE MONTH -JUNE

We would like you to meet the absolute sweetest gentle giant! His name is Baloo. His foster family lives him to pieces! This is what they had to say…..

“What I’ve been told is that he was seen on video by Nana’s (rescue) in an overcrowded facility that was housing over 1000 dogs who had been rescued from the meat industry by local groups.

Nana’s had him then moved to a secondary facility where he stayed for a year and a bit then flew over here to us!

He is currently up for adoption for the right home!

He loves being outside just lying in the sun like a little sunbeam. Loves getting his massive mane brushed. Is a huge peanut butter fanatic. Especially in his kong! Is incredible with kids. Hates car rides. Super protective over his host family lol and likes to watch nature shows if we have to leave the house without him. 😂

We’ve had him since February and he’s settled in so we’ll and we can’t wait for him to find his forever home where he’ll continue to get all the love he deserves!

Thank you for bringing Baloo to us so our day can be brighter when he comes in to the clinic!

PET OF THE MONTH-April

Liberty was adopted as a four-month old puppy from the BCSPCA, just a couple of months prior to COVID-19 breaking out. And just days before Valentine's Day. Fittingly, she introduced herself with all the love in the world, and many kisses. She still the same old romantic every morning, as she greets us.

Liberty is incredibly intelligent and intuitive. You'll rarely find Liberty not paying attention to something that happens, whether on the TV or on our street. She's a real vocal guard dog with a loud bark, but whines over every missed opportunity of playing with whatever dog passes by. Outside of the house, Liberty still behaves like a playful puppy, despite of her 110 lbs. She never fails to show her loving nature to every stranger that approaches her.

At home, she takes the liberty to argue with us if she's not getting enough attention or can't reach one of her tennis balls under the couch.

Liberty enjoys her meals, but she loves her treats even more. Must have learned that from us! Plain kibble is boring, so she always needs an extra toping of sorts. She's an especially big connoisseur of pig's ears and beef trachea.

Liberty's favorite toys are tennis balls and wood sticks, because regular toys just don't hold up well enough during play time.

You can find Liberty on the North Van trails and all over the local doggy parks, where she loves playing with her four legged friends. If she's not out hiking, she will be swimming in the ocean, a big summertime hobby she picked up over the last year.

If you see Liberty: please say hello...because she loves making new friends all the time!

❤️PET OF THE MONTH -FEBRUARY❤️

We want everyone to meet Daisy! Isn’t she darling?

Daisy’s new owner just loves her….this is what she says:

Daisy is just over two years old and was taken from owners who were not taking good care of her.

She has a very sweet and loving personality and loves to play as soon as she finishes eating.

Once she has exhausted herself playing she needs you to sit down so she can snuggle in your lap for a nice long nap.

Every morning she brings me a toy and then jumps into bed so she can lie on my chest and rub her face against mine.

This little girl is full of love, sweetness, fun, and energy in just the right doses.

She is also very smart and is settling in very well.

We couldn't be happier.

Such a sweetheart!

PET OF THE MONTH -JANUARY

We’d like you all to meet this sweetheart! His name is Rusty!

His family just loves him!

“Rusty came to us on July 28th this past summer. We had applied to a dog rescue and had not heard back, so we figured we would wait longer—a dog would come to us when the time was right. Well, we were pleasantly surprised when we were driving to a birthday party and a call came over our Bluetooth in the car and our kids heard the whole conversation about an available dog! We decided to “go with the flow” and visited Rusty, who had been named by his fosters.

It was a magical day and we fell in love with Rusty. He immediately let the kids pet him and his fosters were such kind people who were unable to keep him, but gave us their blessings. It felt right, and Rusty has brought us joy ever since.

Rusty came from Tijuana through a rescue organization who brought him here and he had some “street dog” in him that needed some training at first—indoor plants got “watered” but he learned his manners very quickly!

He is wary of our cat, who is also a rescue, and she is certainly not intimidated by sweet Rusty. Slowly they are starting to interact more and more.

Rusty loves waking up his siblings every morning by jumping on their beds and he loves his treats! He has been taught how to shake a paw and any chance for a car ride he will zoom to the front door.

Being from Tijuana, Rusty is not used to the Vancouver rain, so he begrudgingly walks in the cold rain. He shivers after walking in the wet so we have to surround him with many blankets to warm up of course.

He loves the sun and his calm nature allows him to sit calmly and watch the world around him. He loves his walks and is quite the hiker-who knew? His tail wags all the time and he certainly cheers us up when we’ve had long days.

He definitely was the right match for us and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

PET OF THE MONTH - OCTOBER

We want to introduce you to ‘Finny’! Isn’t he Mr. Perfect?

Finny is a rescue from a kill shelter in Texas, who is now living his best life in Squamish.

He’s happiest when he’s socializing with his favourite people, cruising the beaches in Tofino, snuggled in bed, or doing his crazy zoomies in the forest.

He howls when he’s happy and loves giving high-fives, which then in turn, makes him howl.

We can’t wait to see you again soon Funny-enjoy the beach! 💛❤️💛❤️

PET OF THE MONTH - AUGUST!

Rhys was adopted from the Burnaby SPCA in May 2021. He is a lively and affectionate little boy. He loves to cuddle with his two cat and two dog family members... and of course the humans too.

Unfortunately, in late June, our tiny kitten became ill. He started to vomit profusely and became very lethargic and would not eat. Because of his tiny size, it was imperative that we seek medical help ASAP. Lucky for us, North Shore Veterinary Clinic was able to see Rhys immediately. He was examined and given IV fluids and X-rays. He spent 2 1/2 days at the clinic. Thankfully, with constant supervision, IV fluids, Cerenia, and antibiotics by NS Vets, Rhys has made a full recovery. He's now learning a new trick... jumping through a hula hoop with his cat siblings.

Rhys' family would like to thank Dr Clemett, Dr Lam, and all of the wonderful Techs and support staff at the Clinic for saving our boy's life!

PET OF THE MONTH-JUNE

We have chosen such a sweet girl for our Pet of the Month!

Zazzy is 14 years old now – but don’t tell her, she still thinks she’s a puppy. She’s a Mini Goldendoodle and was born in 100 Mile House, BC. She loves the outdoors – chasing squirrels, playing in the snow and hiking, but is never happier than when she’s in the water. She’ll spend hours in the waves at the beach, diving for rocks in the river or swimming in the lake.

She thinks she’s a big tough protector of the house, but really is super friendly to everyone she meets and especially great with kids. She loved playing with her cat brother (he not so much!) and is happiest when surrounded by her people. She is a great pet and a huge part of our family!

PET OF THE MONTH -MAY

We chose such a beautiful cat for our next Pet of the Month! Everyone please meet MANGO!

“My neighbours were fostering a mum and her kittens and we all fell in love with them. I adopted Mango, and his siblings, Blueberry and Elvis, were adopted by the foster family. We live in a townhouse complex, so the siblings get to roam the neighbourhood together. Mango and Elvis get up to mischief and their favourite hangout is Capilano University. They’re either hanging out with the soccer team during practice, sneaking into the cafeteria, stealing cuddles and snuggles from students, or helping dig holes for the construction workers.

Mango also likes to visit my neighbours and loves to watch movies with the kids. He is a big ball of fluff with the loudest purr. We don’t need a sound machine at night. Lol. “

PET OF THE MONTH-APRIL

Here are Birdie and Frances, the "it girls" for April.

Frances is the younger fawn Italian greyhound. She is the goof; a licker, chewer and a pouncer, and has never had a bad day in her life. After every nap, she awakens so excited to be alive and lay eyes on her humans. She is the hallelujah doggie, as in “hallelujah, I just saw you two minutes ago when you left the living room, but here you are again and so, hallelujah!!!” She is Lucille Ball on mood enhancers.

Birdie is the elder of the two. Sleek and elegant, a bit of a high-class jewel thief with the ability to delicately extract a desired object without detection. Birdie lost a loved one early on and that experience infused her with a hint of tragedy, which only adds to her already substantial allure. She is definitely a 1940’s film star, perhaps Grace Kelly, with a penchant for a chicken liver treat.
Birdie and Frances are certainly not surprised that they have been picked as “pet of the month”, and in the back of their minds, are wondering why it didn’t happen much sooner. 😊

PET OF THE MONTH-MARCH

Meow there paw friends,

My name is Caspian. I love food and stealing daddies vegan ice cream. I love to “help” around the house.

My favourite is loading the dishwasher. I think I save mommy and daddy lots of time.

For morning exercise, I like to play fetch until I get bored. Everyone tells me I am quite sweet and charming! The nice nurses at the vet will tell you so!

Thank you for asking me to be your pet of the month!

We love you Caspian! Come see us soon!

PET OF THE MONTH!

Stella was born in 2012 in Cawston, BC. She is a purebred Labrador Retriever. Her mum was a black lab and her dad was a yellow lab. When Stella was born she was one of twelve pups in the litter! The interesting fact about her litter is that there were four black labs, four brown labs and four yellow labs and each colour had exactly two males and two females in each colour. Amazing!

Stella is 8 1/2 years old and the best decision we have made. She has been a joy for our family and is such an affectionate girl and a great family pet. Her natural instincts would have made her a great hunting dog or bird dog if given the chance. She loves to chase chipmunks, squirrels and is easily enamoured with a bird in the air. Just say, “bird,” and she’ll look in the sky. Her gentle disposition has made her the perfect pet.

Her favourite activities are hiking, boating, fishing, playing in the sand, swimming and sleeping. She loves to swim in the lake, chase a stick or ball and also loves to swim in the neighbours pool! She is a loyal companion.
