Only just seen this. I've been walking Willie and Gracie as a volunteer for a while now for this great organization while I'm (still) waiting for my permanent residency and work permit.

Each week, we’ll feature one of our amazing volunteers with a furry friend they help care for. Our volunteers make it possible for seniors to keep the love in their home and the human-animal bond alive, stepping in to support them when they can’t care for their beloved canine companions on their own. 💛

Meet Willie and Gracie, 14 year old Bichon Frises. I'm doing a bit of voluntary dog walking with an organisation called Elderdog Canada which helps elderly people keep their dogs at home by providing free walks and assistance with their pets needs. Gracie is blind but copes well on walks. She sometimes goes in her chariot for part of the walk (the outbound part.....she turns into a racehorse when she knows she's homeward bound 😂) Willie loves his walks and helps Gracie with her confidence ❤️

How to Walk an Old Dog from Buddy's perspective...
Please don't make me walk too fast because as you know, I need some serious time to take in my surroundings. I don't see like I used to and often don't hear the sounds around me but I smell everything! I need time to know where I am and who has gone before me. The stories those smells can tell me means everything to an old dog like me. Sniffing for an old dog is like meditation. It is a way to live in the moment and take in the world without ever leaving one spot at the base of my favorite tree. Don't be in too much of a hurry and don't be too impatient with me, after all the walk is supposed to be for me, right? I love it when you use my longer leash so I can stretch a little further into the tall grass without pulling too hard. It makes me feel like I am free and I love that feeling. Let me find just the perfect spot to do my business because as you know what I leave behind has to be placed just right so it can be enjoyed by those who come after me. I might be an old dog but I still take the work of a regular walk very seriously and it is so good for my mental health. Talk to me and remind me every now and then that I am a good boy. Hearing that from you just never gets old.
