ilored walks for other reactive & misunderstood dogs just like him! With all my previous years of dog walking/sitting experience, I was certain I knew everything there was to know about dogs. Soon after adopting Charlie I realized I had a lot to learn. Adopted at one and a half years old Charlie had zero socialization skills with other dogs and absolutely no training. Just going for a simple walk around the neighbourhood was beyond frustrating and at times scary. I had been pulled to the ground on multiple occasions from his outburst of uncontrollable barking and lunging. During our walks I became paranoid and full of anxiety at the thought of running across a dog, squirrel or anything that moved too quickly. It felt like the dream and vision I had for myself and this sweet dog was suddenly an unrealistic fantasy. I had envisioned taking my dog on off leash hikes alongside other dogs like I had done for so many other families over the years. It was heartbreaking because I wanted to give him the best life and to have the opportunity to experience as much as possible after spending the first part of his life confined and neglected. I came to the sad conclusion that this reactive behaviour was not going away anytime soon. Thankfully I found a highly educated and dedicated trainer (Renée Erdman, owner of Bravo Dog Training) who shared with us the knowledge Charlie and I so desperately needed. With Renée's guidance, Charlie and I were able to see real results using force-free science-based training! I discovered that letting go of all my expectations and allowing Charlie to explore his new world at his own pace was what he needed. I learned to tailor each walking experience around Charlie and how to avoid high stress situations. Our training was no longer about an idea I had created in my mind for our lives or how he should behave at all times under any circumstance. It was about patience, consistency, and taking small steps forward not leaps. Charlie has made huge improvements from when I first adopted him. We are now able to walk past dogs with little to no reaction. He has made a couple of great dog friends and has even played off leash at dog parks with multiple dogs at a time. We still have a long way to go and I've accepted the fact that we may never get to a place where Charlie is completely relaxed around other dogs but I feel far more calm and confident during our walks. I'm not only hopeful but excited about our future training goals. Teaching Charlie to think about a desired behaviour instead of negatively correcting an undesirable one has been life changing for both of us. I am happy to share my experience with others who may be going through a similar scenario and offer support as I know how isolating and overwhelming it can be without the right information or tools. I've experienced first-hand how frustrating it can feel living with a reactive dog but there is always hope and there will always be TREATS! When in doubt, Eat, Play, Love and you can't go wrong.

Taken way too soon💔
Glitza was an important member of our community who cared deeply about the dogs and people she worked with.
✨️
If you were fortunate enough to know Glitza you know how passionate she was about the animals in her care. She was always thinking about the dogs and what was best for their well-being. She was incredibly smart, kind and skilled at helping sensitive dogs feel safe. She also extended that same compassion to all the people in her life.
🐾
She was a strong advocate for force-free training and handling. She also genuinely cared about the people around her and would leave a positive impact with whoever she met or spent time with.
Glitza was special, a beautiful person inside and out.
✨️
It's devastating to lose such a warm and loving person💔 My heart goes out to the rest of Glitza's family and friends and everyone else who lost loved ones at the Lapu Lapu festival tragedy this past weekend💔
🐾
Rest in peace Glitza❤️ You are loved by so many and have left a lasting impression, never to be forgotten✨️
✨️
If you have the means please consider donating to the Gofundme. Glitza's wonderful parents who she was extremely close to also lost their lives at the tragic event 💔 Her Fiance Jordan survived the incident and at the moment doesn't have any other family here in Canada.
Glitza has one brother Alejo who has now just lost his entire immediate family💔

Mantrailing - The fun and rewarding sport of training dogs to find people using their powerful nose or as I like to describe it, "Sniffing with Purpose."
✨️
This sport is really like no other and offers a lot of benefits to you and your dog!
🌟
Mantrailing uses what comes most natural to your dog, their desire to hunt and their ability to use their nose!
✨️
This is a dog led sport where your dog is in the driver's seat and you are their support system. You will learn to work as a team, what your dog finds most motivating and how to better read your dog.
✨️
If you and your dog love being outdoors, being part of a like minded R+ dog community, having fun (there are lots of laughs) and trying new things, give this cool sport a try!
🌟
🌟
Benefits of Mantrailing:
Builds confidence and positive associations for nervous or reactive dogs✅️
Low impact on the body. High impact on the brain✅️ (Puppies to seniors can participate)🥳
Perfect outlet for working breeds living in urban environments✅️
Safe outlet for predatory behaviours✅️
Learn to work as a team and bond with your dog✅️
Sniffing creates feel good endorphins decreasing stress & anxiety ✅️
NO previous training required✅️
🌟
🌟
Embarrassed of your dog's behaviour in public? Don't think they can handle a group sport class? This is the sport for you!✅️
We welcome ALL dogs including hyperactive, vocal and reactive dogs✅️
🌟
I keep my workshops and class sizes small 3-4 dog teams max so I can provide a high quality learning experience tailored to each individual dog. I also provide private workshops and drop-ins.
✨️
All you need to join is your dog and a backclip harness!
🌟
Inquire today and let's get your dog sniffing with purpose at my Intro to Mantrailing Workshop 🥳 Once your dog has completed the intro, you can join drop-in progression classes and advanced workshops.

What an awesome time everyone had at my first CSI Vancouver K9 Unit Mantrailing Progression Workshop!!!
🌟
Handlers got to create their own scent articles by "taking evidence" and swabbing the trail layer's (the criminal😆) car and face which the searching dog then took scent from and set off to find that specific person. We also had the dog's take scent from the trail layer's car or camping chair and have the dog then set off to search from there✅️
🌟
***Fun Fact people lose 30,000 - 40,000 dead skin cells PER MINUTE! 🤢🤢🤢
🌟
I had dog related "criminal offences" written on name badges that the trail layer's picked at random and wore before they went to hide😆
🌟
I plan to run this workshop again 3-4 teams max, at 3 hours long. I like to keep my workshops small so I can provide a quality and tailored experience to each team attending. All participants receive a certificate and drinks and snacks are provided at the workshop!
🌟
If you want to join one of my Sniffing with Purpose progression series workshops, please send me an email [email protected] and let's get your dog's Mantrailing Journey started with an Intro Workshop :)

Our Story

Nicky & Charlie Adopting Charlie and consistently working with him has not only taught me a lot but has inspired me to create Wilke Walks, the only dog walking company on the North Shore solely dedicated to private & tailored walks for other reactive & misunderstood dogs just like him! Always positive and always force-free, Wilke Walks believes in treating animals with compassion and using a food reward positive only approach during our walks. I adopted my sweet SPCA rescue dog named Charlie in December, 2015. He’s an energetic three year old husky/lab mix and my partner in crime. With all my previous years of dog walking/sitting experience, I was certain I knew everything there was to know about dogs. Soon after adopting Charlie I realized I had a lot to learn.
