Today was a sad day as we laid Mississippi Mikey to rest. For over 35 years this palomino gelding, "Mikey", has roamed our pasture and looked after our broodmares and their babies. He was the last son of Mississippi Moon the horse that took Keith Young and I to first and second place in the MRCA steer wrestling one year. Another era has ended. We will miss him.

We will be hosting open practice nights for barrel racers on Wednesday evenings fro 6;30 to 9:30. We will set the timer up around 8 for those who want to time their runs. $10 for single horse. $5 additional horses. Please let us know if you are coming. Thanks.

I so often hear people complaining about our medical system and the people in it that I had to write this. On Feb. 24 I got run over and my calf stepped on by a horse and I ended up in the ER at the Virden hospital. The care I received there was outstanding. Within an hour they had examined, x-rayed, diagnosed the injury, and begun treatment. The care I received from from the ER nurse. (a barrel racer from Reston), the night nurse, (an ex U of M women hockey team member from Elkhorn), and Dr. Hammell, (who knew exactly where to touch me to make make me jump) was exceptional. We are so fortunate to have a medical facility in our immediate area staffed with such knowledgeable, caring and compassionate people. They deserve a great deal more appreciation than they often get providing a very stressful and necessary service.

This is a self portrait I took in the morning when I found out that it was -40 again outside and the wind chill was in the -50s.To top it off I just managed to get the snow plowed out of the yard and guess what? They are predicting another 6 inches for Monday and Tuesday. The supposed superior intelligence of the human race escapes me. Birds fly South in the winter. Bears hibernate. Cats stay in the house and expect to be waited on. I definitely was born to the wrong species.

The VGBRA Stallion Service Auction closes Thursday Jan. 31. Several Manitoba breeders have their stallions entered. Bidding starts at 50% of regular stud fee. It is a great opportunity to get a mare bred at a bargain price. CBHI stallion service bidding starts Feb. 1.

We are sorry to announce that we will not be able to produce the Canadian Cloverleaf Classic Futurity and Derby in 2019. Although this event was a great success, attracting competitors from MB, SK, AB and ND and paying out over $38000 in prize money, we have not been able to secure the necessary funds to continue in 2019. In 2018 we were able to raise only $12000 to pay for the over $18000 in added prize money and awards. We wish to give a special thank you to the volunteers and sponsors who have helped to make this event so successful.
