Welcoming New Patients!

Household dangers are often overlooked. However they can cause a lot of harm to our feline friends. Some, like rodent poison and electrical cords are more obvious.
However, many cats have required emergency surgery after ingesting strings, including hair ties and dental floss
Washing machines can sometimes be a hiding place for cats. Always check your washer and dryer before closing it to make sure you cat has not climbed in.
Laurent getting some snuggles from our team before and after his X-rays! How adorable is he?

Zelia plays for the 8 year old girls soccer team that we have sponsored this year. She plays “on the left”. She came in to say hi before one of her games! We love supporting the local community and we wish Zelia and her team “the Blue Swifties” good luck this season!
Fun fact: Dr. Peters played for the Oakville Soccer Club from ages 10-18 ⚽️
Please join us in congratulating our newest technician, Kayleigh, who recently completed the Sheridan College Veterinary Technician program! You may have already met Kayleigh, who has spent the last year with us as a veterinary assistant, learning as much as she can so she can hit the ground running as a technician.
Fun facts about Kayleigh: Despite graduating with a degree in Chemical Engineering from U of Waterloo, Kayleigh found her true chemistry with the veterinary industry.
Like the rest of us, Kayleigh is Fear Free® certified.
Mystery Monday!

During your pets visit, our team ensures that they are calm and comfortable. We provide positive reinforcement and gentle handling.
Bugsy, like many patients, barely even noticed when we collected a blood sample from him!
Mother's day is this weekend, and many of our mothers are pet parents. Help keep pets safe during mothers day by avoiding toxic plants and flowers and instead choose pet safe alternatives!
Did you know that we offer same-day urgent appointments?
We’re here for you, ready for the unexpected and prepared to step in to help when you need us most.
Our team is well-versed in triage – prioritizing patients based on level of medical urgency. Our first priority is always the “this can’t wait” emergency. For urgent or emergent cases we offer same-day appointments based on severity.
This world veterinary day we’re offering bite-sized inspiration in the form of reviews from our happy clients. We’re all human, and knowing that not just our veterinarians, but our entire team, is making a difference in the lives of pets and people in our community is what gets us up in the morning.

Did you know? Over 1 million pets go missing in Canada each year. Missing pets that have a form of permanent ID, such as a microchip, are much more likely to be reunited with their families. Prevent your pet from going missing, and if they do, facilitate a safe return with these simple steps:
1. Microchipping. When a missing animal is taken to a shelter or vet, one of the first things the staff does is scan for a microchip. If they find a microchip, and if the microchip registry has accurate information, they can quickly find the animal’s owner. If your pet is already microchipped, is essential to keep the information up to date.
2. Spaying and neutering reduce your pet’s likelihood of wandering off in search of a mate.
3. ID tags. Nothing replaces a collar with up-to-date identification. If a pet is wearing a collar with tags (Rabies tag and/or the owner’s contact info) when they are lost, it’s often a very quick process to contact the owner.
As a Fear Free Certified Practice, we excel at providing a stress-free visit for cats and anxious dogs. What does that mean for your pet?
1. We bring you and your pet straight to a comfortable, quiet exam room to avoid commotion and stress. This helps keep down the traffic and noise level in hospital, and any unexpected interactions!
2. Exam rooms optimized for comfort. We have perches and window views in our cat exam rooms and large, interior rooms for dogs that provide even the largest of canines plenty of space. Both our cat and dog exam rooms are equipped with species-specific calming pheromones. If patients need to go to our treatment room, there are species specific exam tables to continue the separation of dogs and cats.
3. Our patients can enjoy a stay in Fear Free approved enclosures when they’re in for tests or recovering from a procedure. Those enclosures are made of tempered glass instead of noisy, cold stainless steel used in many hospital settings.
4. Odour control. Our hospital won’t smell like a hospital that uses traditional smelly disinfectants. That’s because we use an odourless, Fear Free approved, eco-friendly, safe disinfectant that uses accelerated hydrogen peroxide with proven cleaning & disinfectant power.
These are just a few of many steps we take to ensure your cat or anxious dog has a Fear Free visit to our hospital. Ask our team for more information!
Spring has sprung! It's important to use caution during spring cleaning to ensure our pets stay safe.
If you think your pet has ingested or been exposed to these or any toxins, ensure that your pet is examined as soon as possible!
We can't tell who enjoyed this little snuggle session more, Dr. Iz or Winston!
Winston benefitted from having some company while waiting his turn for his dental prophy. This helped to decrease his anxiety and give him a positive experience throughout his stay!
Our team is Fear Free Certified and can notice subtle signs of stress and adjust to ensure patients are more comfortable.
Our team was able to watch and experience the eclipse with their fashionable eclipse glasses! Despite the cloud coverage, we were able to see this once in a lifetime total solar eclipse! 🌙
Today is national pet health insurance day. This begs the question… is it worth getting pet insurance? The short answer is YES. Absolutely. Nothing speaks to the value of having insurance like personal experience. Just ask our team members about their own pets and the things insurance has covered.
Having insurance is a way of budgeting for your pet’s care rather than relying on “wait & see” spending. It allows you to make better decisions based on what’s best for your pet rather than on the constraints of your bank account.
Check out a detailed explanation of why we recommend pet health insurance, and what to look out for in an insurance provider, on our website under our “library” tab.
Welcome to the team, Stephanie! Steph’s enthusiasm for helping people and their pets knows no bounds. We are more than thrilled to have her join our growing team 🎉
Mocha takes full advantage of happy visits. He loves coming into our hospital and saying hi to our team and getting some yummy treats.
We encourage these visits. It's allows dogs to come into the clinic, say hi and bye and check their weight. This builds their confidence in clinic and helps reduce anxiety during examinations!

It's Poision Prevention Week, but we know that every day needs to be poison prevention! Toxins and poisons can be found in our houses as well as outdoors. Take extra precautions to keep your pet safe by storing these items out of inquisitive noses.
If you think or know your pet has ingested something poisonous, contact us as soon as possible. If we are closed, bring your pet to the closest emergency hospital.
Immediate care can save your lets life!
Frodo and Dr. Peters shared some special bonding time together. Frodo could not contain his excitement and snuck in a few kisses!
Twelve months of prevention is exactly what your pet’s doctor recommends for the simple reason that ticks have no season. They’ve been active year-round for almost a decade now as our winters have continued to warm up. Tick season? There’s no such thing. Ticks are on the hunt for a meal any time the temperature reaches 4C (let’s say above freezing to be safe).
➡️ Swipe to see our calendar that demonstrates how many days reached 4C or above this winter in Oakville. Last December alone, ticks were active for 75% of the month in our area. In February, the temperature got as high as 16C. Spring hasn’t even sprung and we’ve already removed several ticks from a few of our patients.
Ask our team how to protect your pet from tick borne diseases such as Lyme disease.
Braxton is a great example of why we weigh pets at every visit. Even simple appointments like nail trims we will check your pets weight.
Braxton had been losing weight, which we noticed during his nail trim appointments.
After a full physical exam and bloodwork we diagnosed Braxton as a diabetic. We controlled his diabetes quickly and we are happy to celebrate that he is in diabetic remission!
There are three types of Cat Friendly designations, from Bronze, to Silver and Gold, and SOVH is proud to have achieved Gold status! 😺🏅
When you see the Cat Friendly Practice® designation, you can be sure your cat will be given exceptional care and attention through all parts of the visit - from checkups and vaccinations to surgery and hospital care. Being a Cat Friendly Practice® means the practice has proven a higher level of commitment to excellence in feline medicine.

Follow along for Frankie’s Laparoscopic Spay with Dr. Yan! Spaying laparoscopically allows us to minimize discomfort and healing times for our patients. The incision is often just the size of a dime. We commonly use this technique for laparoscopic dog spay surgeries, along with cryptorchid neuters and gastropexies. #laparoscopicdogspay #veterinarylaparoscopicsurgery #veterinarysurgeon #oakvilleontario #oakvilleveterinarian #southeastoakville #southeastoakvillevet #mississauga #oakvillebusiness

Our hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic Ultrasound and X-ray capabilities. 🩻 While X-rays are a standard requirement of all veterinary hospitals in Ontario, ultrasonography is optional due to the cost of equipment and training involved. Pain isn’t fun for any of us, and our furry friends are no exception. Dogs and cats have evolutionary instincts to hide their pain, so it can be tricky to spot. The good news is, there are several options to treat pain and inflammation in pets including laser therapy. If you suspect that your pet may be uncomfortable, book an appointment to discuss an individualized plan tailored to suit their needs. #animalpainawarenessmonth #lasertherapyfordogs #lasertherapyforcats #summusmedicallaser #oakvilleveterinary #mississaugaveterinary #dogsofoakville #catsofinstagram #catsofoakville
