Frank is beyond excited for Christmas, and has dressed up accordingly! 🐶🎅

In addition to being great exercise, hydrotherapy can provide Enrichment to dogs who may have trouble walking on land. Whether it be due to age, an orthopedic, or neurological injury, lying around and being sedentary can affect a dogs mental health as well as their physical health. 🐶🐾

Hydrotherapy gives them some autonomy back to pets suffering from conditions that affect their mobility.

…and having treats to motivate them only improves the enriching experience! 🐶🦴🐾

Sadie is a Valley Bulldog with a heart of gold! Every visit she stubbornly stares at the door dividing the rehab and cat clinics, hoping to meet with the feline friends on the other side. 🐶🐱

Sadie has also shown her courageous side in rehab. She was terrified of the underwater treadmill during her first session, but has quickly adapted and now walks in with minimal treat bribery! 🦴

The duration of Sadies hydrotherapy treatments have improved in each session as well, and her owner is seeing changes at home that indicate rehab is helping Sadie feel better! 🐶🐾

We never know exactly how a dog will react to their first time in our underwater treadmill. From a dog's point of view they are put in a glass box, which then fills with water, and to top it off, the floor begins to move under their feet. It's quite amazing, therefore, that the vast majority of patients adapt to it quickly.

Winnie, like many of our patients, was quite anxious during her first session in the treadmill. She jumped, huddled into the front corner, and overall seemed quite uncomfortable with the whole ordeal.

But we didn't give up. During her next session, both her parents joined us and brought her favourite treat along: duck.

Now Winnie walks into the treadmill willingly and happily does her exercise! Patience, encouragement, and high value treats go a long way in rehab, and Winnie’s change in attitude towards the underwater treadmill goes to show that even a fearful dog can quickly overcome their anxiety and learn to love rehab! 🐶❤🐾

Jeorgia was the perfect patient for her musculoskeletal ultrasound last week! This beautiful American Bulldog has been limping on her forelimbs for the past two months, and her owner wants to do everything possible to determine the cause.

Jeorgia arrived for her ultrasound with gabapentin and trazodone on board, and very quickly into the procedure, began snoozing soundly. We imaged three locations in both her right and left shoulders, including longitudinal and cross-section views of the supraspinatus tendon, and longitudinal view of the biceps tendon.

The images are currently being reviewed, and hopefully the results of the ultrasound will lead to a diagnosis and treatment plan to get this lovely, energetic pup back up to her usual speed! ❤🐾🐶

Can you guess the breed?! 🐶🐾

Cedar is a very excitable and food-motivated boy, who is really enjoying his bosu ball and other land exercises. His anxiety prevents him from getting the full benefit of hydrotherapy and laser treatments, so we have modified our rehab plan for him accordingly.

Cedar has a muscle tear in his left triceps but is slowly becoming more weight bearing on the leg. His gait is improving too, and he is becoming more comfortable in his appointments with each visit. Good job Cedar!

Archie has the bullheadedness typical of the breed, but his playful side really shines through when he's offered a tennis ball and liver treats in rehab! 🐶🐾

Archie presented for biceps tendinitis and is working on a program that includes cavaletti exercises, and paws up on a bosu ball to strengthen the muscles around the shoulder. He also walks in the treadmill, and is given multiple breaks to catch his breath. We finally finish up with relaxing laser therapy for pain control and improved healing.

We're very excited to work with this pleasant fella weekly as he progresses through his rehab program! 🐶❤

Meet Bo and Camper, two very differently sized Poodle mixes with opposite personalities to match. 🐶❤️
Big Bo is a delightfully polite boy, more reserved than the energetic and exuberant puppy Camper. One dog has an injury in their right forelimb, and the other, in their right hindlimb.

There is a lot of variation in the way we approach each dog’s rehab as well, as Camper is more food motivated, and Bo tends to respond more to praise and encouragement (as well as the occasional treat).

We are very proud to be treating these two wonderful boys as our patients, and always look forward to their visits with us! 🐶🐾❤️

A gift for Guinevere 🐶🥰

The regal and majestic Guinevere received a gift this week from a client who met her in the parking lot and, much like us, fell hard for her gentle and expressive demeanor. ❤

She was very curious about her new toy, sniffing And cuddling it while she received her laser treatment.

Guinevere, her owner, and we at Mobility Matters would like to thank our client for the very thoughtful gift. Your kindness is much appreciated! 🐶❤🥰

A tale of two Franks 🐶❤:

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…

In reality, it’s always a good time when the Franks visit. Frank and Frank, both dachshunds, have not let IVDD get in the way of them living their best lives. Both have been excellent patients in rehab and their mobility has made great progress through exercises, hydrotherapy and laser. There is a stark age difference between them, which obviously affects recovery expectations, but by working on retraining nerve pathways and improving strength and balance, they have both become superstars in their own ways. ❤🐾🐶
