🌞🐾 Happy First Day of Summer! 🐾🌞

Summer is officially here, and we’re ready to soak up the sun with our furry friends! But as the temperatures rise, it’s important to keep our dogs safe and comfortable. Here are some tips to ensure your pup enjoys the summer heat safely:

Hydration is Key 💧: Always have fresh water available for your dog. Dehydration can happen quickly in the heat, so make sure your pup stays well-hydrated.

Avoid Peak Heat Hours 🌡️: Walk your dog early in the morning or late in the evening when temperatures are cooler. Avoid midday walks when the sun is at its strongest.

Paw Protection 🐾: Pavement and sand can get extremely hot and burn your dog’s paws. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws! Consider using dog booties if you cannot avoid the pavement.

Shade and Rest 🌳: Ensure your dog has access to shaded areas and can take breaks from the sun. A cool, shady spot is essential for them to relax and avoid overheating.

Never Leave in a Car 🚗: Never leave your dog in a parked car, even for a few minutes. Temperatures inside a car can rise rapidly and become life-threatening.

Watch for Signs of Heatstroke ⚠️: Excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, and vomiting are signs of heatstroke. If you suspect your dog is overheated, move them to a cool area and contact your vet immediately.

Let’s introduce you to Dr. Alisha, one of the newest additions to the team! If you haven’t met her yet, say hi in the lobby 👋🏻👋🏻

Here’s a bit more about her 🐾

Dr. Alisha Hartwig grew up on a hobby farm outside of Kingston where she cared for two retired racehorses, two goats, lots of pocket pets and feline friends. She has loved caring for animals from a young age and knew she would end up in the veterinary field! Dr. Alisha has a keen passion for wildlife medicine and has traveled to Australia to volunteer at a koala sanctuary and has also worked alongside wildlife veterinarians in Africa treating cheetahs, zebras, wild buffalo and orphaned baboons.

One of the driving forces for Dr. Alisha to become a veterinarian was when she volunteered for CARD (Community Association for Riders with Disabilities) and witnessed first-hand how therapeutic the human-animal bond can be. That is why she is thrilled to be in this profession – where she can treat animals and promote the special bond between their caregivers.

Dr. Alisha is passionate about fear-free medicine and ensuring your furry friends have a stress free visit to the vet. She also has a keen interest in geriatric medicine and canine rehabilitation. When not at Trafalgar Animal Hospital, Dr. Alisha can be found riding her bike, hiking with her sidekick (Charli the goldendoodle) or traveling ✨

Starting tomorrow, we're excited to implement our new clinic hours!

We're thrilled to announce the expansion of our team of doctors at Trafalgar Animal Hospital! 🎉

With more doctors on board, we can now accommodate more appointments throughout the day, providing even better care for your furry family members. 🐶🐱

To better serve you, we're also adjusting our clinic hours. Starting May 15th, our weekday closing time will be moved forward by one hour. Our new hours will be as follows:

📅 Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM
📅 Tuesday: 7:30 AM - 6:00 PM
📅 Saturday: 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM
📅 Sunday: Closed

We believe that these changes will enhance our ability to provide quality care while accommodating your schedules more effectively.

Let’s introduce you to Dianna, one of the sweetest veterinary technicians you will ever meet 🐾

Here’s a bit more about her:
Diannas’ love for animals is immense and always has been since she was young. Throughout her years in school she spent her winter and summer breaks working and volunteering at a local farm where she began her foundational skills in animal care.
“It was always clear to me that I was meant to be in a career where caring for animals was the main focus”.
After graduating from Sheridan College and passing her national exam, she officially became a Registered Veterinary Technician in 2023.
“Each day as an RVT brings new challenges and rewards which only enhances my love for what I do”.
When Dianna is not at the clinic she enjoys supporting our Toronto Maple Leafs (Go Leafs Go!), attending concerts, seeking out new business ventures and she has recently started her travel journeys and look forward to crossing more places off her bucket list!

🐾 Don’t let ticks ruin your furry friend’s springtime adventures! 🌿🌼

As the weather warms up, it’s essential to check your pets regularly for ticks. To do so, feel each of their legs right down to their feet (including between toes and paw pads), check around and under their collars, and in and around their ears. It is important to check every part of their body that is accessible.

If you find a tick, it’s crucial to remove it properly. Watch this helpful video on how to safely remove a tick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wsRhbg4yuU&t=1s

If you don’t feel comfortable removing the tick at home, call the clinic and we can remove it for you!

These pesky parasites can transmit serious diseases like Lyme disease.

Prevention is always better than cure, so if your pet isn’t already on tick medication, now is the time to start. Let’s keep our furry friends safe and healthy all season long! 🐶

Here’s a bit more about her:

Jenn graduated from Sheridan college in 1996. She then backpacked Europe with her future husband. In 1997 Jenn started working as a veterinary nurse in Cambridge Ontario where she worked for 23 years. Jenn joined our team in February 2020 as our surgical nurse, and has since taken on a broader scope of responsibility at the clinic. Jenn’s favorite thing about working at Trafalgar Animal Hospital is “meeting all our wonderful patients, their lovely families and the great people she gets to work with!”

Let’s introduce you to Dr. Savanna, our incredible veterinarian extraordinaire 🐾

Here’s a bit more about her:
Dr. Savanna So is a native of Rogersville, Tennessee, but has called Ontario home since 2002. She grew up in the Appalachian mountains, where she helped care for animals of all kinds on her family farm. Her love of animals naturally led to the pursuit of a veterinary career, graduating with her degree from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. After two years of practice, she moved to Ontario, and has practiced at multiple clinics in the GTA. In May 2009, she joined the team at Trafalgar Animal Hospital.
“ I consider myself very blessed to be able to help people and pets build life-long, healthy relationships. Everyday I get to work with amazing staff and families…people that are truly committed to the health and well being of their furry family members. Celebrating these relationships is my mission, and I look forward to embarking on your celebration journey with your pet(s)!”
In her spare time, Dr. Savanna enjoys spending time with her family, reading, going to church, cheering on her husband, and traveling.

Let’s introduce you to Rickie, our 💫AWESOME💫Client Service Representative and Animal Care Assistant 🩵

We know most of you have met Rickie as she is the second longest standing employee of Trafalgar! ❤️ If you haven’t met her yet, you can learn a bit more about her below 🐶

Rickie has had a passion for animals all her life. When she was young, a neighbour of hers told her she just started a new job at Trafalgar Animal Hospital to which Rickie said “that is a job I would love to have”, and here she is, all these years later! Rickie started here May 8th 1989. What has kept her here is the wonderful clients and furbabies that she gets to see everyday. The team that we have here are very important to her, as she says “they are fantastic people and nice to work with”. She has a very handsome boy Brodie, who is a cat that makes her smile everyday. Rickie loves the warmer weather and enjoys being outdoors, as well as working in her garden. Her husband, kids, and grandchildren mean the world to her and she enjoys spendings as much time as possible with them and lets not forget Brodie!

Let’s introduce you to Linda, our lovely Client Service Representative 🩵

We know most of you have met Linda as she is the first face you see when you come to the clinic! If you haven’t met her yet, you can learn a bit more about her below 🐶

Linda started working at Trafalgar Animal Hospital in 1976 as a veterinary assistant and animal care handler. She was first asked to work reception and the rest is history! Linda truly loves interacting with our clients and their pets and building long lasting relationships with them. Her passion is helping each client and patient enjoy their visits with us. “A few cookie’s always helps!”.

“I am fortunate to work with a wonderful team that share my passion to provide excellent care and kindness to our patients”.

In her spare time, she loves spending time with family which includes six grandsons! She also enjoys playing with her pooch “Phoebe”. You can also find her spending time outdoors, kayaking, walking Pheobe and visiting her brother-in laws hobby farm!

Summer Hours

During the month of August we will be reducing clinic hours as our hard working staff are on summer vacays 🏖😊 We will be opening at 7:30 am as usual, but most afternoons we will be closing at 5 pm. If you need to pick up medicine, food, or need urgent medical care later than 5 pm, please contact us so we can make necessary arrangements! 🍹🌴🥥#summerhours #funinthesun

Happy 8th birthday to our Judah Bear!!!! 🥳❤🐶 He joined our TAH family at 9 weeks of age and made many friends (furry and human) at the clinic. He came to work every day, and stole all our hearts! He has had too many near death experiences, not enough trips to the lake, and never enough kisses, belly rubs, or balls! Since we have been on closed door protocol, he goes to work with his dad at Chiropractic First, greeting friends and charming everyone with his calm, sweet nature. He LOVES seeing his friends and helping people be happy. Judah, you have made such a difference in so many lives.....we love you!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤

To do so, text us at 705-980-0932. We will send you a code that is SPECIFIC to you and your pets, allowing you to see YOUR pet's reminders and make requests for consultations, food, and medications.
