🎉 Field Call Friday time! 🐾 Our amazing Officer was called in for a special rescue mission: a tiny vole had gotten its head stuck in a drain grate! 🚨 With quick thinking, the Officer removed the grate and brought the little one back to our shelter.

👩‍⚕️ Our Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) carefully assessed the vole, ensuring it was safe to be freed from the grate. After a gentle touch, our RVT guided the vole out of its tight spot, where it could rest comfortably while waiting for a ride to one of our awesome wildlife rehabilitation partners. 💚

Once healed, this brave vole will be released right back to its original home! 🌿✨

URGENT! Experienced dog *FOSTER* homes needed! We have over 200 animals in care currently and a number of pets need a foster home. While we have so many amazing foster volunteers, we have dogs in care with specific needs that do not match with our current fosters.

Sally is one of these dogs. Sally is an 11 month-old Doberman who was surrendered into our care. Sally is a lovely girl, but can get overstimulated easily. She is stressed in a shelter environment and would do far better in a home with somebody who could love and care for her while she waits for her forever family. Sally is looking for a *foster* home with no other dogs, and an experienced foster who can give her the attention she needs.

The Rabbit Hop-A-Thon has been hopping off! While we've seen several bunnies find their forever homes, we still have plenty eagerly searching, including Pinky, who has been with us for 722 days.

Say hello to Callie, who is eagerly searching for her forever home! She is a curious explorer and loves to discover new territories. She bravely searches every nook and cranny and loves to say hello to new people. Once she settles in to her new home, she becomes very affectionate! She also loves to chew and arrange her cardboard creations as she jumps over and navigates her hideaways and tunnels.

📢 We're looking for experienced fosters that are a good fit a dog's specific needs!

Rolo is an 11 month-old American Bulldog mix with energy for DAYS! This big boy is still in his puppy phase and hasn’t quite learned all of his manners. He will get overstimulated and still be mouthy. He has been working with our canine team on his self-control and calming his body. Rolo is such a sweet boy, but is really struggling in a shelter environment. He’s looking for an experienced foster with no children or pets, that can help him to work on his manners. Due to being overstimulated easily, Rolo is looking for a townhouse, semi-detached, or detached home (no apartments or condo units).

Field Call Friday! We received a call from a concerned resident about an injured fox which was in their backyard and could not walk properly. Two officers arrived at the residence and could see the fox appeared to have a back-end injury, and possibly made it into the backyard after being hit by a car on.

The officers were concerned about trying to catch the fox because of the multiple exit points the fox could take through the bottoms of the fence. To block some of the exit points, the officers put up cages so the fox could not get through. Then the officers tip toed as close to the fox as possible while it was lying down, trying not to make any sounds or sudden movements. Once they got close, the fox started running away. While one officer blocked an open exit point, the other officer chased the fox and caught it in a net.

The fox was then brought to the shelter where it was examined by our Registered Veterinary Technicians. After an examination, it was brought to a wildlife rehabilitation centre for medical treatment. The fox will be released once recovered from its injuries!

In times of hardship, many devoted pet parents will sacrifice their own needs to ensure their beloved companions are cared for. The OMHS Pet Food Bank helps keep people and pets together. With your support, owners won’t be forced to surrender their pets due to financial difficulties.

OMHS works with 16 (human) food bank partners and 20 community groups in Oakville and Milton to provide pet food and supplies.

Sadly, there are usually clients lined up at the entrances, seeking assistance for their families and pets.

Our partners are reporting record numbers of people requiring their services. Many are working but just can’t make ends meet. Our partners have asked OMHS to increase, and in some cases double, the amount of pet food and supplies delivered to them for distribution.

The need is great. Your help is vital. Please donate today and help keep pets with the families that love them.

Today is Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, a day to remember our loving pets who have passed away. Many people think of the Oakville & Milton Humane Society when looking to add a pet to their home. However, they may not realize that we also offer end-of-life services, such as cremation and memorial products, for their furry loved ones.

Did you know that the OMHS Pet Food Bank is donation based and volunteer run? We have an amazing, caring community that provides the funds and supplies that volunteer groups pack, sort, and distribute to our community partners to provide much needed pet food and supplies to families in need.

During an evening shift one of our Officer's received a call about a possibly injured owl. A member of the public called into OMHS that an owl had been in their backyard for the last six hours. When the Officer arrived at the home they found an injured owl sitting on a pile of wood in the backyard not moving. They examined the owl and noticed that the owl had a swollen eye but no other signs of other injuries. It however could not fly away. The officer brought the owl back to OMHS to see if after the owl rested overnight it would improve . However, there was no improvement in the morning. One of our RVT's examined him the next day and determined the owl was a good candidate for one of our rehab partners. It was transferred to one the next day and will be relased once it is healthy enough! #fieldcallfriday

Field Call Friday! One of our Officer's received a call from a concerned home owner that had found a pair of adult opossums trapped in their window well. After an assessment, the Officer was able to determine that both opossums were in good health and did not have any injuries and could indeed be released! The opossums were relocated to a green space within 1km of where they were found! #fieldcallfriday

Field Call Friday! We received an urgent call from the service department of a car dealership when they discovered an animal nest in one of the cars they were working on. Officer Nykoluk rushed to the scene and found a nest under the hood with four healthy baby squirrels inside. Thanks to the quick thinking of the dealership staff, we were able to contact the car's owner, who kindly invited us to their home to attempt a reunion with the mother squirrel. Upon arrival, Officer Nykoluk spotted an adult squirrel in a nearby tree, clearly the mother, anxiously responding to her babies' cries. Carefully, Officer Nykoluk placed the box with the baby squirrels on the ground, and the mother squirrel came down, retrieving each baby one by one, taking them to a spare nest she had prepared. We always strive to reunite baby animals with their mothers whenever possible, as it's the best way to ensure they thrive in the wild! 🌲✨ #fieldcallfriday
