🐾 Field Call Friday: Midnight Skunk Rescue! 🦨
Late at night, our officers received a call about a skunk struggling in the center median of Trafalgar Road—something was stuck to its paw, limiting its movement and putting it at risk of being hit by a car.
Our officer arrived just in time, safely confined the skunk, and discovered the culprit: a rat trap clamped onto its paw. The skunk was brought back to the shelter, where the trap was carefully removed. Unfortunately, the injury left its paw swollen and sore, but first thing in the morning, this resilient little skunk was transported to a wildlife rehabilitation center for further care.
Our officers are on call 24/7 to assist animals in distress, no matter the time of day! If you ever see an animal in need, please reach out to our emergency line so we can help safely. 💙

A warm lap to nap in and a loving forever home—Aster is living the dream in this !

"Aster is doing very well! We’re just developing a routine and I’m learning his habits. He isn’t doing anything out of the ordinary, really. He seems to be VERY interested in human food, so I’m working on squashing that interest. Other than that, he’s eating well and playing lots. Luckily, I work remotely half of the week and am able to give him lots of attention.

OMHS was great to work with. I have no feedback other than keep doing what you’re doing!"

Our Junior Club (6-8 year-olds) has sessions Tuesday and Wednesday, and our Senior Club (9-12 year-olds) still has spots for the Tuesday session. "Shermie is doing great, he has adjusted very quickly and discovers a new favourite spot to sit every day. Shermie loves to play with his mouse toys and loves chasing crinkle balls around the house. Emma came to OMHS in poor shape, underweight and struggling with unchecked diabetes. Once we were able to figure out her diet and insulin injections, she quickly became a staff and volunteer favourite, charming everyone with her adorable smile and loving personality! We were so happy to find a loving forever home, and is sounds like it's been a perfect match! Here's Emma's

"Emma is doing great! She is just perfect and we love her to bits. She had her friendly vet visit today and that went well. I was very nervous about her injections for the first few days but I’m getting over that now. Fortunately, she never seemed to mind my nervousness. She seems very happy, affectionate and relaxed and has commandeered her spot on the bed in the room where she’s staying. She has company most of the day and is loving all the attention, I think. She has yet to really meet our other cat or our dog, but she is very keen to go out of her room and explore so we will probably work on those introductions soon.

The adoption process was very smooth and I really appreciated the extra time given to educate me on Emma’s special needs. The injection lesson was especially helpful. Thank you so much for all your help!"

A big thank-you to our friends at Delta Bingo and Gaming! They donate a portion of proceeds to the Oakville & Milton Humane Society, which helps us buy things like medication, cleaning supplies, food, and much more to support the animals in our care. The call came in unexpectedly, asking OMHS to take in 14 dogs when the owner could no longer look after them. That’s where our monthly donors enter the story. Their regular donations give us the ability to respond quickly to situations like this. When you join our PAW (Pre-Authorized Withdrawal) Team today at omhs.ca/paw, you help ensure that vulnerable animals receive the assistance they need, when they need it.

We soon were settling 14 Havanese dogs into their new surroundings. The animals were understandably confused and frightened, but our dedicated staff members made them feel safe and secure. Not long after, some of the dogs gave birth, bringing the total number to 24 new members of the OMHS family!

Thanks to the tireless efforts of our staff, each dog received the individualized attention they needed. All required veterinary care, but it was the socialization, training and love from our team that set them up for success in their eventual forever homes. The truth is, though, none of this would be possible without YOU.

OMHS relies 100% on donations to provide essential shelter, food, and medicine to animals like these 24 dogs. That’s why we’re asking for your help today.

"Ramsay is doing great! He loves his new home and is fitting in very well. He loves his food and treats and comes out and explores and spends time with us daily. He is eating and drinking well and exploring everywhere! We all love him very much. He even has his own brush for his fur! My two boys are so good with him and love to spoil him! We are all very happy and in love! "

8-month-old Bruno came to us as a stray, so his past is a mystery. One thing is for sure though—he's ready to find his forever home! Bruno is a sweet, lively kitten full of energy! He's always ready to explore and turn any moment into an adventure. Once this whirlwind of energy has slowed down a bit, he loves nothing more than spending some quality time with his family, getting some well-deserved neck scritches!

Say hello to Carla, a sweet and smiley Havanese mix searching for her forever home! She can be quite shy and timid, but is very affectionate once she gets to know you. Her absolute favourite thing is chin scratches! Once she comes out of her shell, she shows off how goofy and loving she is. She loves squeaky toys and has been learning about how fun stuffies are, and she enjoys winding down by digging around in cozy blankets to bury herself in. She's food motivated and has been working on her leash skills and house training. Carla is also good with other dogs!

Carla would thrive in an adult-only home with dog experience, especially fearful/nervous dogs. She would love to go to a home with another doggy sibling to help her build confidence and show her the wonders of being a dog!

The small but mighty Baldur has settled in and taken over his forever home along with his cat sister Freya in this !

"Baldur is doing great and is right at home. He is very attached to us and is a big cuddle bug. He's getting along well with our cat Freya and has lots of energy. So far we are just adapting to a "new" sleep routine. He's the kind to curl up right onto your neck/head and is a very loud purrer lol. If he's not running around the home playing/exploring, he naps on top of me and my partner. He's super affectionate."
