W***y was born right here under our roof, a little drifter in the making. He spent some time out on the range (our foster homes), learning the ways of the world and how to warm up to folks. By the time he moseyed back into the shelter, W***y had transformed into the cuddliest little cowboy you ever did meet, charming every staff member who crossed his path.

It didn’t surprise us one bit when Nicole rode in and quickly claimed this affectionate wrangler as her own. Now they’re off to ride into the sunset together. Congratulations, Nicole and W***y, on your heartwarming adoption!

Field Call Friday! Our Animal Protection Services team received a call from a caring community member who spotted a litter of baby opossums by the roadside during a walk. Tragically, their mother had passed away, leaving the little ones vulnerable and in harm's way.

One of our Officers rushed to the scene to ensure their safety. The babies were safely transported to our shelter, where our veterinary technicians gave them a full medical assessment. While they were found to be in good health, they were far too young to survive without a parent.

Thanks to our network of wildlife partners, the babies were transferred to a wildlife rehabilitation centre. Here, they’ll grow strong and learn the skills they need to thrive before being released back into the wild where they belong! 🌳

A huge thank-you to the observant and compassionate person who called us to help these little ones. 💕 Together, we can make a difference for the animals who share our community.

This degu trio is still searching for their forever home! These degus are social little critters who love to snack, run on their wheels, and cuddle with each other. They're very curious, coming right up to you to say hello and see if you've brought along a tasty treat. They're expert climbers and burrowers, navigating their enclosure with ease.

Teddy's still looking for his forever home! Teddy is a curious and social pup who forms bonds with new people quickly! Once he gets to know you, he becomes an affectionate and cuddly teddy bear! He can be nervous and scared in new situations, and has shown signs of food bowl guarding (which he has a training protocol to help manage), so he would do best in an adult-only home that has experience with dogs.

We have a very special from a very happy boy in his forever home! Fendi spent a whole three years at OMHS searching for the right home and while it took a while, it was well worth the wait for his perfect match💕

"What a wonderful dog, we cannot imagine our lives without him. We are thrilled that he has finally found his forever home. Within a few weeks of his arrival he had made friends with both a cat and a guinea pig. We’ve been amazed by how smart he is and how easily he picks up new commands and routines. He’s learned all the different ways to say and spell “walk” in English, so we have moved on to French!

Despite additional training he is still reactive to other dogs, but he has been steadily improving over the past months. We still have not so great walks from time to time, but with preparation, training and patience our confidence walking him has increased. In turn we’ve noticed his reaction when we encounter other dogs is decreasing in intensity. That is something we will continue to work on with Fendi. He's such a loving dog. So smart and gentle in the home and friendly with every person he meets. We hope to enjoy our time with Fendi for many years to come."

Winter is still searching for his forever home! This three-legged speedster has tons of energy! He loves going for walks, car rides, and a good snuggle once he gets to know you. Winter has been working on his manners, but can be reactive towards strangers and others dogs, and is still learning not to jump up on people.

Because of Winter's habits and reactivity towards other pets, he would need an adult-only home with no other pets.

Nala and Simba are an inseparable duo ready to rule over your home and heart ❤️ Simba's bold and brave personality commands attention whenever he enters the room, and he thrives on pets and attentions! 🐾 A huge thank you to RBC for their incredible support through the Communities Together Fund! Thanks to their generous contribution, our Pet Food Bank was able to deliver much-needed pet food and supplies for pet owners in our community facing financial hardships. 💙

Cocco came into our care needing surgery for a broken leg, but this brave and resilient puppy made an incredible recovery! In her amazing foster home, she blossomed, showing off her playful spirit and love for snuggles. When she was ready for adoption, the applications poured in, and Erini and Angelo were overjoyed to welcome Cocco into their loving family. A huge congratulations to everyone on this heartwarming adoption story!

Ellie’s journey began as a stray, found in a local park with her mom and sibling. But her story took a brighter turn when she came into our care and quickly captured our hearts with her playful, friendly, and affectionate personality; and, of course, those irresistible puppy dog eyes!

When she was ready for adoption, the Kelly family, along with their current dog Penny, instantly fell in love. Now Ellie is thriving in her forever home, surrounded by love and happiness. Her future is as bright as her spirit!

🦅 Field Call Friday! 🦅
This week, our team responded to an urgent call about an injured Red-Tailed Hawk stranded on the highway. Terrified and unable to move after a likely collision with a vehicle, the hawk was huddled by the center median, unable to fly to safety.
Our Animal Protection Officers carefully secured the hawk and brought it to our shelter, where our Registered Veterinary Technicians assessed its injuries. Despite severe swelling in one eye, there’s hope it can be saved with medical care. The hawk was then transported to a wildlife rehabilitation center for specialized treatment.
A huge thank you to the caring individual who reported this hawk in distress! Your call made all the difference. 💚

Earl is still searching for a home! This little guy loves food, is still learning about toys, and is experienced with other dogs. Talking to Earl helps him understand his surroundings as he learns to navigate new spaces. He is a sweet and gentle boy who would need a home that understands the challenges of under-socialized and/or blind dogs.

Your gift gives a vulnerable animal like Lexi a chance to thrive. The tiny Chihuahua had already lived in three homes and was now on his fourth try. To a special dog like Lexi, home and family mean everything. We knew there was a perfect match for him out there, and we were even more motivated to find it for him!

At 9 years old, Lexi found himself at the Oakville & Milton Humane Society (OMHS), after being surrendered by his third family. Weighing just 2.3 kg, he was so small, scared, and defeated that he needed a cage inside his big kennel to feel safe. He had faced so much loss, but his luck was about to change.

He was clearly in pain. Veterinarians discovered a suspicious lump on his back and multiple abscessed teeth. Amazingly, he had never been neutered. Your donation allows OMHS to provide essential medical care to animals like Lexi. A spinal cyst was removed and found to be benign, several teeth were extracted, and he was finally neutered.

Today, Lexi is healthy, loving, and full of life. He has a family that adores his quirks, and he’s brought so much joy into their home. He respectfully defers to the family cat, who outweighs him. He has an important job as a weekly visitor to a retirement residence, where faces light up as he curls up on his new friends’ laps. You make all this possible.
