My first board and train crew in Ontario has my heart.
Meet Olive (on day 15 of out the 21 program) a golden retriever/lab mix from Waterloo, Ontario
Kip (on day 11) a Chihuahua/husky mix from Massachusetts
Roo (on day 9) a Lab/Chow mix
From Massachusetts.

What makes this crew so special is that none of us are from the area, and we’re all experiencing it together for the first time. Exploring the unknown is one of the best ways to build relationships, and I truly believe that’s why we’re ahead in the program right now.

These three have overcome their leash reactivity, earned their off-leash privileges, and have become bombproof while we work on home renovations. I’m excited to see how far they progress in the next few weeks as they strive to become their best selves.

We are currently booking for April 2025 for board and train programs.
If you’re interested in having your dog trained at a small scale, in home training facility, where your dog gets treated like one of the family, please reach out.

With dog being euthanized, rehoming, and surrendering at an all-time high, I want to highlight the importance of preventative measures. One effective approach is to test your dog's personality as a puppy using the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test. Most of us desire a moderately neutral family dog, which means you're looking for a dog that mostly scores 4's on the Volhard puppy test. This test is typically conducted when the puppies are six weeks old with someone they don't know, such as you, when you visit the pup for the first time. If you're considering getting a puppy, please think about conducting this test rather than solely relying on appearance when making your choice.

Comment below on what score you believe your dog would have received, if you had done the testing.

- Onyx, my pup scored a mixture of 3’s and 4’s
and so did three of his other litter mates making them great family dogs.

Putting a dog down and condemning them to death because you refuse to use any method that isn't "positive only" isn't very positive...

Sedating a dog into a zombie because you don't like other training tools isn't very positive...

Restricting a dog to a confined life without the chance to thrive isn't very positive...

Telling someone to put down their 8 month old working line dog for having lots of energy and acting like an 8-month-old working dog isn't very positive...

Guilting a young family that lives in an apartment into adopting a large dog with behavior issues isn't very positive...

Telling an older lady their dog would be better off dead then using a prong collar that helps her walk and control her dog isn't very positive....

Bashing other trainers because they don't train dogs using only one method isn't very positive...

Having an owner put a 5 month old puppy on 400mg of trazadone isn't very positive...

Harming dogs because of your own ego isn't very positive...

All of the things I just listed are REAL things that owners have dealt with by "certified positive only trainers and behaviorists."

Anyone can be certified online for $50. It means nothing.

Dogs and their humans deserve real trainers who care and emphasize for both ends of the leash. Trainers who will tailor training to each dog in front of them. Don't be fooled by the "positive" sounding approach. That's just fancy marketing from people who care more about their ego and lining their pockets rather than helping the dog community.

I've chosen to speak out on this because I care and hate seeing dogs harmed. The positive only cult is doing more harm than good to dogs. Dogs and owners that are already having a difficult time. Enough is enough.

Hello Tuesday 👋
Read below for a new perspective on consistency when training your dogs 🐕

"The reality is, you are always training your dog, whether you realize it or not. Dogs are creatures of the moment. They're not dwelling on the past or thinking about the future; they're in the now. This means that every interaction you have with them is either training them or untraining them. Training your dog is a lot like working out – you're either fit or you're not. You're either training your dog or you're not. It's a daily effort.
We must develop it as a lifestyle, in order to call your dog truly trained"

What do you think!?

Happy Saturday!

Despite my upcoming move in November, I am still available for virtual training sessions. There seems to be some confusion regarding my move and whether people can still reach me for training. The great thing about virtual training sessions is that they can be offered to anyone in the world, no matter where they are.

I do plan to be back every couple of months to work with past clients, future clients, and to hold workshops and clinics

Stay tuned to my Max K9 page for events

Much Love,

We have some big news at Max K9 Training!

By the end of this year, we will be starting a new chapter in Southern Ontario.

I want to express my deep gratitude to everyone who has been a part of our journey over the past 18 years. Whether you attended a puppy social, group training, individual training, pack walk, virtual training session, or board and train stay, your support has been invaluable. Friends, family, clients, and future clients have all played a crucial role in the success of my business here in Nova Scotia. Every tag, share, mention, or recommendation has kept us going, and for that, I am truly thankful.

As we transition to Ontario, I am excited to continue offering the same services as we did here in Nova Scotia, including virtual training sessions and 21-day board and train programs.

I’ll be starting fresh, so word of mouth or a share would be greatly appreciated!

Giveaway!
If you know anyone in Ontario who is in need of dog training, please like & share this post. You will have a chance to win a $200 Amazon gift card and also give them the opportunity to receive $200 off a board and train program. Just make sure they mention your name!
The draw will take place at the end of November.

Much Love ❤️

LT.

It's been HARD 😢
Having to part ways with dogs that have been with us since the start, one's we fell in love with, loved like our own, built relationships with, spent so much time with, were excited to see every week - all because the daycare environment was just not for them anymore.

As an owner, it's easy to feel sad if this happens BUT I'm here to tell you that it's more normal than not.

So, what is a DOG SOCIAL dog?
- typical for puppies to begin their socialization here
- loves all dogs and their company and not particular who with

This is very uncommon for adults dogs to remain in this category.

You see.. 40% of dogs make up the DOG TOLERANT category also 40% make up the DOG SELECTIVE category (I'll talk about this later)

Over time, dogs may mesh better with certain dogs and only tolerate some. If the environment is good, then it may be fine.

So, what do we do about this?
- We aim to keep the same groups on each day. We do have some who can more freely but it does not upset any of the personalities.
- With our smaller groups, we can more easily manage
- We ask pup parents to move to different days and try with a different group that we think will be better matches personality wise.
- We are particular about who we add to some groups to keep good energy and happy pups

However sometimes your dog may just be happiest with a few friends and some nice walks and solo plays.

After all, we as people don't like EVERY person we see.. right 😉😅
