📢 Important Announcement to Our Clients and Pet Parents! 🐾

We wanted to share some exciting news with you! Dr. Jenna will be going on maternity leave starting September 20th. During this special time, she will be looking forward to welcoming a new addition to her family!

Don’t worry — our wonderful team will continue to provide the same level of care and love to all your furry family members in her absence. And our new doctor, Dr. Samuel will be helping us make sure of that!

To our valued clients;

We would like to thank you for your patience in regards to the new CDC rules for bringing your dogs to the United States. The rules are constantly changing on a weekly basis and we apologize for any different information provided prior to this announcement. We encourage owners to keep up to date on the CDC requirements as well using the link below:

https://www.cdc.gov/importation/dogs/rabies-free-low-risk-countries.html

The current up to date regulations for dogs are listed below and will be applied Aug 1, 2024

1)All dogs must be vaccinated for rabies with a rabies vaccine certificate handy at the border AND coming back into Canada.
2)All dogs must have an ISO readable microchip
3)All dogs must be over the age of 6 months
4)All dogs must appear healthy at the border
5)All dogs arriving to the US from a low risk country (Canada, US, Mexico) must have a CDC dog import form. This form is valid for 6 months from the issue date and can be used for multiple entries. This form is something you as an owner need to fill out. Please see a link to the form and how to fill it out below:

https://cdc-786687.workflowcloud.com/forms/090dc543-7b2f-4538-b2c7-2919d12ecc73

https://www.cdc.gov/importation/media/pdfs/2024/07/Dog-Import-Form-Instructions_-Low-risk.pdf

6) Each dog traveling must have its own CDC import form and proof of rabies vaccination.

To have the most successful experience at the border we recommend having all your necessary paperwork and vaccinations performed a minimum of 2 weeks prior to travel.

As the regulations are always changing, Elizabeth Street Pet Hospital nor its staff are liable if your pet is turned away at the US border.

We thank you all for your patience during this time. Please check out this page and your emails for any further updates in regards to this matter.

Sincerely;

The Staff at ESPH

It’s the age-old story. You're out camping at the cabin with your friends or you are staying at home over the long weekend and… “Oh no! Buddy got into the hot dogs and has diarrhea!” or “ Bella came in from outside at the cabin with a cut on her leg” or “My cat hasn’t been drinking much in this heat”

Did you know that our staff has developed a “Summer Survival Kit” to help you during those stressful situations when maybe you can’t get to the clinic right away?

Our Summer Survival Kits include bandage supplies, gastro food to help ease the tummy, a pre and probiotic, a hydration supplement (cat kits only), tick removers, emergency contact numbers, and more.

If you think one of these kits may be right for you please contact the clinic or pick one up at your next visit. Limited quantities available.

**⚠** PET SAFETY ALERT**⚠**

Dear valued clients;

We hope you are enjoying the warm weather we are having and are staying as cool as possible during this heat wave. With these extreme heat conditions we want to remind you of a few pet safety tips.

-During these extreme temps we strongly advise against leaving your pets in your vehicles for any length of time as they can easily overheat resulting in heatstroke and or death.
-Avoid walking your pets in the heat of the day as the pavement can result in burns on paw pads. Our staff recommend walking in the early morning or late in the evening.
-Avoid any vigorous activity at this time (ie, playing fetch, agility, working cattle, disk work)
-Have cool fresh water available at all times for both outdoor and indoor animals. If you have pets that live outdoors please provide adequate shade/shelter for them to keep cool.
-If you have any type of brachycephalic/short-nosed pet (Pug, Boston terrier, French bulldog, English bulldog, Boxer, shih Tzu, Pekingese, Mastiff, Persian, Exotic shorthair) they must be kept indoors and cool at all times as they can overheat easier than other breeds.
-You can keep pets cool by: filling a shallow pool with water, cooling mats, having fans on near your pets resting areas (ie near kennel, in living room or near their favorite sleeping spot), freezing Kong toys, having ice cubes in water, sprinklers, having damp towels or blankets for them to lay on
-If you have pets that require lots of grooming ensure they are shaved/trimmed to keep them cool

Please keep an eye out for signs of heatstroke such as:
-Bright red gums/tongue
-Panting
-Collapse
-Lethargy
-Ataxia
-Loss of consciousness
-Vomiting
-Diarrhea
-Hypersalivation
-Increased heart rate

If you think your pet has heatstroke:
-Contact an emergency vet immediately
-Remove pet from the heat immediately- seek a cool, shady environment
-Offer frequent small amounts of cool- not cold water
-Sponge down pet with cool- not cold water particularly on belly
-If you have a fan put them close to a fan

As always in case of an emergency please contact Southern Alberta Veterinary Emergency 403 995 3270 or Fish Creek Pet Hospital 403 873 1700

Good Morning! PLEASE READ!! I wanted to reach out to you all to please be extremely cautious when purchasing pets online (such as Facebook). It has come to our attention that there is someone trying to scam our clients by asking them to e-transfer money for purchasing a cat or dog and for services (spays) rendered at our clinic that are NOT FROM US. This is a scam. The documents have our name on them but are fraudulent. They are being told the animal is at our clinic for a spay and there is no such pet.
Please call us with any concerns or questions you may have and be careful out there! Again, we appreciate you all and would hate to see anything like this happen to you.
