BSE Surveillance Program

As of March 7th 2025, significant changes to the BSE Surveillance Program have been made.
We have been deemed as a "negligible-risk nation".

Some major changes affecting producers are:

- Producers are to use the CFIA website to find out if their animal qualifies under the BSE Program. It is a short online questionnaire and if your animal qualifies you will be provided with a unique ID.
If you are unsure if your animal qualifies or you have more questions please contact your veterinarian.

- Animals must meet a specific criteria to qualify, which can be found on the CFIA website. However, it is important to note that a bovine that does not show these signs can still be considered a BSE Surveillance candidate.

- If your animal does not meet the specific requirements and you would like a necropsy performed on your animal, you will be invoiced for the mileage and necropsy.

For more information please check the CFIA website.

March is Pet Poison Prevention Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about the dangers of accidental poisonings in pets and promote prevention.
Every year, countless pets accidentally ingest something harmful, highlighting the importance of pet owners being aware of potential dangers.

Some ways to prevent these situations from happening include :
- keeping medications, cleaning products, and other hazardous substances out of reach and in a cabinet. (Substances include over the counter medications, Ma*****na, antifreeze, etc)
- make sure all garbage bins are securely closed/stored
- be aware of foods that may be toxic to your animals (for example: raisins, grapes, onions, chocolate, etc.)
- be aware of any house plants that may be toxic to your animals

If your animal may have ingested something that you are concerned might be toxic please contact the Pet Poison Helpline (800-213-6680) or ASPCA (888-426-4435) and they will direct you on your next steps.

🐾 Meet Rowan – A Loving Dog in Need of a New Home 🏡❤️
We’re helping a family find a loving home for their beloved dog, Rowan. Her current owner, in their 80s, has made the incredibly tough decision to rehome her due to mobility challenges. Rowan can be reactive on walks, and they fear she may accidentally pull them over.
Rowan is a 7-year-old Great Pyrenees/Keeshond mix (born October 20, 2017), weighing around 65 lbs. She is in good health, spayed, and has all her vet records since birth.
🐶 About Rowan:
✔️ Friendly & Gentle – She loves people and kids
✔️ Smart & Loyal – A natural guardian who alerts when visitors approach
✔️ Leash Reactive – May bark and get excited when seeing other dogs on walks but is friendly off-leash
✔️ Independent but Loving – Enjoys attention but is comfortable alone for several hours
✔️ Used to a Fenced Yard – Prefers space to roam
Rowan’s owner wants to ensure she finds the right home, so if things don’t work out, they are willing to take her back and help find another option.
If you or someone you know can give this sweet girl a loving home, please reach out! Let’s help Rowan find the forever family she deserves. ❤️
