Look who came for a little visit yesterday? And we couldn’t have been happier to see him.
Jayz had a little cyst removed from above his eye at a speciality exotic clinic and we removed his sutures yesterday.
For those of you who are newer to the Westend Family, Jayz once was our clinic bird. You could find him dancing or whistling behind the front desk.
During COVID we had decreased hours and he wasn’t getting the socialization he needed to thrive. So he has been living with Caryn ever since. And loving it! 🥰
Next year he will be turning 20 years old! We definitely miss having him at the clinic.

Checking an animal’s blood pressure is a crucial part of veterinary care because it helps assess the cardiovascular health and overall well-being of the animal. Monitoring blood pressure is particularly important in animals with certain medical conditions, such as kidney disease, heart disease, diabetes, and hyperthyroidism, as these conditions can affect blood pressure levels. By regularly measuring blood pressure, veterinarians can detect and monitor changes that may indicate an underlying health issue, allowing for early intervention and treatment. Additionally, monitoring blood pressure can help evaluate the effectiveness of treatment and the progression of certain diseases, leading to better management and improved quality of life for the animal.
Jack is having his blood pressure checked. If you listen closely you can hear his heart beat. He was incredible for his procedure. It is important our furry friends stay calm and as still as possible for an accurate reading.
“We are just going to take Trevor to the back for his procedure” Part 9
Routine bloodwork is so important in monitoring the overall systemic health of your furry friend.
Trevor is a perfect patient for her jugular blood draw. This is the second most common type of venipuncture we use in our feline patients. It tends to be fast.

A fine needle aspiration (FNA) is a type of needle biopsy in which a large, hollow cutting needle is used to remove a cylinder-shaped sample (core) from an abnormal mass to examine it under a microscope. The types of masses can vary, but this is typically our first way of identify what type of mass.
Lilly was in for an FNA with Dr Cynthia. During her aspiration, the mass turned out to be a cyst, which was fluid filled. You can see the fluid rupture when poked with a needle. She was an incredible patient.

Removing a tick within 24 hours is critical to preventing the spread of tick borne disease. It is said it takes 36-48 hours of the tick being attached to transmit the disease.
Our preventions are so effective at killing the tick within 24 hours it has drastically reduced how often we see a newly diagnosed Lyme disease.
Minnie was in to have a tick removed which was not fully engorged. We highly recommend everyone have a tick twister on hand (this is the green tool
we us for easy removal)
If you find a tick or are suspicious your furry friend has one please call us and we would be happy to help.
