Pyometra;
An incredibly serious and life-threatening condition that affects unspayed female dogs and cats. This condition, if left untreated, can result in the death of the affected animal.

Symptoms of Pytometra include but are not limited to: discharge from the v***a that is yellow, green, or red in color, lethargy, and loss of appetite.

The best prevention AND treatment for pyometra is surgery. By spaying pets prior to their first heat, the risk of pyometra is completely eliminated. If a pets found to have pyometra, emergency surgery is the only guaranteed treatment.

Just the other day we met Chloe; whose family was unfortunate enough to have to see their sweet girl affected by a pyometra. Chloe’s family decided to proceed with emergency surgery with the TLVH team.

We have many questions today, asking if Dr. Peter has expanded his business, as much as he has many plans for us one day, we are not there yet! Right now it is just our sweet little 1080 Mississauga Street West in Orillia! All of our appointments, and procedures are in the clinic, and we do not do home visits. Dr. Peter does have hopes and dreams for us one day but as it stands right now, it is just Dr. Peter as our owner, and main practicing Veterinarian, with locum Veterinarians who likes to come around every now and then!

Meet Willow!

Ms. Willow came in for a visit with Dr. Peter last week for a pregnancy check! Willow’s mom estimated that we are approximately 40 days pregnant and wanted confirmation from Dr. Peter and his team. Although we cannot confirm how many are present, we can say with certainty that Ms. Willow is pregnant with multiple puppies!

Congratulations Willow, we are eagerly awaiting your pups first vaccine appointments in the coming months!

Happy Wednesday! We wanted to share with you the story of Rocco, a big boy with an even bigger heart!

The Twin Lakes Team has seen Rocco since he was a puppy, and although he has grown up to weigh in at a whopping 60kg, his puppy energy has never gone away. Rocco visited the team on the Saturday of the May long weekend with an upset belly. Radiographs confirmed that our silly man had eaten a corn cob when dad wasn’t looking! Dr. Peter and his team were happy to stay behind after appointments and perform a foreign body surgery on Rocco before some well-deserved rest for the long weekend. Rocco was transferred to the Huronia Veterinary Emergency Clinic for overnight monitoring after surgery.

Rocco’s dad came to visit us today and reported that, although we hate wearing the cone, our energy is still high and we are recovering well.

Your pet’s health and well-being are among your top priorities, but recognizing when they need veterinary care isn’t always obvious. Dogs and cats are descended from animals who had to mask their vulnerabilities to stay alive in the wild and, while your furry pal doesn’t have to stay alert for...
