Mastering the recall takes time and repetitions. Not only is it good to teach, it’s so important for your dogs safety. In the event of an emergency, we need our dogs to come straight back to us no matter what’s around them. Keep in mind, recall is taught on a 6ft leash first, and only when it’s fully proofed do we move on to using a long line, then eventually off leash. How’s your dogs recall? Structured play is a great way to bond with your dog! It can also be incorporated into obedience and is great for building confidence when needed. Making sure the play is structured with clear boundaries is very important, to ensure the right messages are sent to your dog.
By incorporating play into Amber’s routine and obedience, this helped her tremendously with working through some fears she had! (Loud areas, traffic, construction, etc)

▪️Down on Recall ▪️
This exercise is taught in the Off-Leash Obedience Program 🐕 The Down on Recall exercise is where the dog is coming back to you after called, and when they hear the cue Down, they do so within a few steps. It’s a good one to teach in the event you need them to stop in their tracks for safety. One example would be if their ball rolls onto the road and you need them to stop chasing it!
