Breed: DSH
Est. DOB: Kittens ~Oct 9th (12 weeks) Mama ~May 2023 (1.5 years)

Litter trained: Yes
It’s a new year and the backyardigans are learning the ins and outs of office work fast, or at least how to pretend to work when the boss is walking by... It's hard to get any work done during the holidays, and these bright young upstarts are learning that for the first time! Knowing this, HR planned a New Years party for them and by the end of the night they had all partied too hard and fell asleep at the office!
But what did they get up to on their time off? Austin and Pablo did some training with their amateur wrestling team (tackled whichever kittens crossed their path, usually eachother), and Tyrone enjoyed some indoor rock-climbing with Tasha (climbed us and tried to play with our hair). Uniqua decided to get out more and work on her people skills (seek us out for pets and also manipulate us into giving her food), and Janice nurtured her love for tailoring! (started jumping on our laps and trying to groom our pants for some reason?)
Now that they're refreshed and motivated to get back to work the backyardigans can bring their best selves to the office. Janice is friendly, curious, and a quick learner. Tasha is bold, smart, and always searching for new horizons. Uniqua has become observant, deliberate, and sweet. Tyrone has grown to be energetic and brave, albeit a little dense. Pablo has learned to share with his coworkers, and Austin is just happy to go with the flow.
The backyardigans are soaring to new heights (really tall cat trees), and are looking for their next career move soon! If you or someone you know has a job opening for them, please reach out!

Today's bonded pair have been in care 446 days. Their amazing foster never fails to send updates and photos weekly of this beautiful pair. She would love to take the best photo of all. Their going home photo.

Name: Lennox, Lux (bonded pair)
Gender: F spay
Breed: DSH
Est. DOB: July 1, 2023
Good with cats: yes with proper introductions
Good with kids: cat savvy teens
Good with dogs: unknown
Litter trained: yes
Lux and Lennox both actively seek out human contact. Lennox lets you know with her incessant little peeping voice while Lux throws herself on the ground with her belly up when she wants attention.
Lux is a creature of habit. Looking for connection in the morning and evening while relaxing during the day. She seems quite chill on the surface, but can surprise you with silly antics like chasing her tail or wrapping herself up in the floor length curtains. Her new trick over the holidays was to crawl up under the box spring. Good thing we could hear her fooling around in there or we would have been in a panic looking for her.
Lennox often hangs out on the office desk just enjoying your company and watching the birds outside. She expects pats and tickles in return for her supervisory role. Her employee apparently wasn't responsive enough today so Lennox jumped onto her lap and demanded action. Lennox is slowly but surely on her way to becoming a lap cat!
Lennox and Lux are bonded sisters. They have come so far and deserve the happy ending that was promised to them when they were rescued from the cold in October 2023. They would do best in a quiet home where they will have lots of human interaction and nurturing.
To help them stay together we are reducing the adoption fee to $500.00 for the month of January. Check out our pinned adoption post for the application form.

Sebastian lived in cottage country this summer. With his wining personality strangers happily fed him. Concerned for him as the weather turned colder he was brought into OKR’s care. Full of tics and dirty he is now a parasite free, stunning glossy coated, fully vaccinated and neutered.
He was relocated for two weeks for the holidays as his foster travelled. His temp foster fell for him completely. Making himself at home immediately, humans, cats and dogs accepted him. He proved himself to be a smushable cuddlebug that would fit into any household.

Good with cats? Yes
Good with dogs? Untested
Good with children? Untested but very likely

It is time to send these one year old bonded sweethearts into the big wide world.
Perry is a gentle talking cuddly bear. A lap cat that as his foster notes may need a crane to lift him soon.(it’s all fluff and muscle) Bonnie or Bon Bon is as sweet as her name and refuses to miss out on any games, affection or tasty treat. They both like the comforts of home and settle easy with strangers.
Bonnie plays hard, usually with her favourite fish or feather on a wand. A funny cat she will catches the “bird” and trot away, head held high with her prize congratulating herself on the “difficult catch.”
Her brother Perry is a big handsome gentle bear with the sweetest meow and rarely very far from Bonnie. Playing, wrestling, grooming or just relaxing in each others company.

Good with cats: yes
Good with kids: yes
Good with dogs: Turk loves dogs. Olive TBD

Olive and Turk were surrendered back to the rescue as there had been concerns about them eating non consumable objects. Neither have showed any inclination is to eat anything other than a regular cat diet. Although not a bonded pair a home together would be amazing.
OLIVE: Her foster notes that while she loves kittens she seems more of a people cat as the kittens grow to adults. She gravitates towards her person and will look for her if she leaves the room. A gentle quiet presence with the softest purr and soulful eyes.
TURK: Silicone was Turk's go to nibble but with such objects no longer accesible he is just a regular happy go lucky cat that is both affectionate and playful. He is a quiet sucky cat that loves kittens, people and dogs.

Gender: Male
Breed: DMH
Est. DOB: May 2024
Good with cats: Likely
Good with kids: Yes, cat savvy kids
Good with dogs: Unknown but likely
Litter trained: Yes
Gizmo was found as an intact, unchipped stray in a Quebec village where nobody claimed him. He must've been someone's pet at some point because he loves the indoor life with humans!😺
FOSTER UPDATE: He’s a delightful, silly boy who could play for hours with toys (and non-toys). He's not allowed to meet the other foster cats yet but is very eager and we think he would be a great buddy to cats and possibly dogs. He loves humans—following them around, playing hide and seek and tag.😹 Once he's tired, he might lie down near you for some pets or go relax in his cat tree. He’s never ever aggressive but can give tiny love bites—he is still young and learning! His meow is more of a croak which is so cute!☺️Interested in adopting? Narrowly escaping euthanasia in an overcrowded shelter in Quebec these little orphaned kittens made their way to their new temporary home. They have been slowly but surely finding their confidence. They love cuddling and purring with their humans! Both with matching white patches on their chest, they enjoy snuggling together, and playing with each other’s tails. Luna is the more adventurous, and loves exploring, playing, and lounging, while Casper needs a little more convincing at first but when comfortable he is right at his sister’s heels, chasing her around the house (and taking well deserved breaks in the cat tree)! These cuddly kittens are gentle, loving and fun. -Once they have a chance to get used to their surroundings, they will make themselves right at home. Their furrever family will be a lucky one indeed!

Name: Minnie ❤️
Gender: F (spayed)
Breed: DSH
Est. DOB: 2020-2021
Good with cats: No (needs to be the only cat in the home)
Good with kids: Yes (tested with older children)
Good with dogs: Unknown
Litter trained: Yes
FOSTER UPDATE:
Minnie responds to her many nicknames and maintains eye contact with her beautiful green eyes when we speak to her. We like to think that she understands everything we are saying. She uses different meows to communicate her needs and we love that we have been able to figure each other out so quickly.
Minnie is highly food motivated, playful and very affectionate. She loves to spend her nights sleeping with her fosters, and her days playing, or taking naps in the window sill or, following us around like a little shadow. Her cutest qualities are her beautiful peachy orange markings, her surprisingly loud voice, and her tendency to clasp her fosters hands between her paws while she naps. Minnie has a very quiet purr but her entire body exudes happiness when she is being pet.
Minnie is quite social and has done well with meeting new people. She will gently rub against a leg or a hand to remind guests that she would like to be the center of attention. Minnie has a lot of love to give and would be the perfect companion for a person or family who tend to spend a lot of time at home.
Minnie thrives on routine and isn't shy about reminding us when it is time to eat, cuddle or play. We joke that she can tell time and has a schedule to follow. Minnie tends to gobble her food quickly so portion control is a must. We have found that multiple small meals (of canned and dry food) measured out during the day work well for her. She would likely also do well with an automatic feeder. She loves turning one of her snacks into a game by chasing after thrown pieces of kibble and clasping them in her paws before eating them. We are testing out a treat puzzle by adding some dry food to it and it has been a big hit so far!

We thought you would like an update on the cat that we took into care last week.
--Unavailable--
Name: Freddie Mercury
Gender: Male (intact for now)
Breed: DSH
Est. DOB: unknown
Good with cats: untested, but very likely. Will confirm when he's out of quarantine.
Good with kids: yes!
Good with dogs: unknown
Litter trained: yes
FOSTER UPDATE: This sweet, gentle boy was found outside, freezing and injured. He was taken to the vet right away, given antibiotics, drops for his corneal ulcer, drops for his ear infection, and moved into his foster home. There's not an inch on this poor baby that isn't a scar, scratch, puncture wound or a peeling scab. He can't tell us his story, but we know it's not a happy one.
Named Freddie for having an impressive range. He cried incessantly for the first 2 nights but calmer now.
He's only been with us for 6 days, and it's already clear he's the sweetest teddy bear. We're giving him eye drops x3/day and ear drops x2/day, and although he's not thrilled about it, he's never hissed, scratched or shown any sign of aggression. We even got all his nails clipped - no biting, just squirming. He already met 3 other adults and 2 kids, and was a perfect gentleman each time.
Every day I collect more and more scabs and chunks of hair, as his wounds are healing. He may still look rough, but give him a couple week - safety, love and care will do their magic.
If you would like to help towards Freddie's care please consider sending your donations to [email protected], through PayPal at https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/OttawaKittenRescueCA... or https://www.canadahelps.org/.../cha.../ottawa-kitten-rescue/
Donations of $20 or more are eligible for a tax receipt by request (provide your full name, mailing address, and email).
Together, let's continue saving lives, one paw at a time! As always we thank you

IN CARE 256 DAYS
♥️ AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION ♥️
Name: Elroy & Rosie
Gender: M, F (spayed/neutered)
Breed: DSH
Est. DOB: Mar 6, 2024
Good with cats: yes (Current household has a 1yr, 6yr & 17 year old cat.)
Good with kids: yes (Amazing, patient & so gentle. Perfect for a family with kids &/or babies.)
Good with dogs: yes (Current household has 2 small dogs. Medium & big dogs often visit.)
Litter trained: yes
Elroy & Rosie are the most loving, cuddly, playful, & unique cats their current foster parents have ever had the pleasure of fostering. Reading their bio, you may think these cats sound too good to be true, but they truly are this special & unique.
These kittens are never in a bad mood & friendly with everyone they meet (whether it be visiting dogs/cats, adults, children, toddlers, babies...), they're always happy to meet, play & cuddle new visitors. With these kitties in your home, your family will never spend a day not smiling or feeling loved.
Both kittens are very playful. They love to play & run around with kids & their furry foster siblings. Feathers, springs, laser pointers, light up balls & any type of wand gets them super excited! They're adorable when they play together, or when they're jumping up & down trying to grab a toy from a suction cup feather toy or catch the feather from a cat wand!
When our 1 year old niece visits, she enjoys giving the kittens treats & running after them. Elroy likes to run with her & play pickaboo around the corners. Our niece also throws the toy for the kittens & loves to watch them run after it. Every time she cries, Rosie runs to her side to make sure she's ok. When the baby takes naps, Rosie likes to sit on the chair in the corner of the room & watch her sleep.
MEET ELROY (BLACK KITTEN):
I've got LOTS of love to give & I love cuddles. I'm a social butterfly - never alone, always spending my time in the same room as the other pets & humans (even visitors, both of the human & animal variety, I instantly like everyone). There is no such thing as too much affection, I would never say no to getting love... so why not get it from everyone I can? Hehehe. Second to affection, I love love LOVE to play & run around.
MEET ROSIE (GREY KITTEN):
My nickname is Rosie-Posie (because of how sweet & adorable I am). Adults, kids, dogs, cats... everyone loves me & I love everyone! Most of the time, you can find me either snuggled up, giving kisses or grooming my furry foster siblings. The rest of the time I'm either following the humans around (staying near them to see what's going on), or I'm cuddled up close by (hoping to get head rubs), or I'm sitting on the cat tree looking out at the birds.
CUTE STORY OF THE KITTENS WITH KIDS:
(P.s. We always keep an eye on the cats to make sure they feel safe & aren't unhappy).
During an indoor picnic tea party & movie night, the kittens both wore funny hats & were spoiled with treats. Followed by playtime with feather wands (the kids giggled the whole time, it was super cute). Ending with movie night cuddles & pets (belly rubs for Rosie, head rubs for Elroy while he purred the whole time).

Given we both have such a strong passion for helping animals, we felt there no better way to honour this passion than to start a rescue. And so, we introduce, with so much love and excitement in our hearts: Ottawa Kitten Rescue.

Ottawa Kitten Rescue will focus its efforts primarily on rescuing abandoned neonatal kittens and will extend care and support to pregnant cats and moms with kittens.

We would like to thank everyone for their support in our efforts and we can’t wait to begin this journey with you all❤️
