UPDATE: Roxy has been discharged. Her foster tells us that she brought home a different cat - she is feeling so much better! 🙂. She complained on the drive home and is bright eyed, alert and playful. As a bonus she had a perfect bowel movement this morning. She has some healing to do and we will keep you in the loop. Thank you @Capital City Specialty & Emergency Animal Hospital for taking care of her 💗
What a fantastic way to end our bonded pairs week!!!!! We can stop counting the days in care for Kuromi and Keroppi, the wonderful tabby girl duo. Today is the first day of their forever life. They have been adopted by a wonderful family. Please join us in congratulating their adopters who we know will give them a happy home. A huge thank you to their foster family who have loved them as their own and will miss them dearly.
UPDATE: Remember Alina, rescued from euthanasia. The cat with the saddest eyes that looked right into your soul?

Alina is currently doing really well in her foster home. She does have hyperthyroidism and has been prescribed medication. Look at the change in her. She is gaining weight and feeling better. She has even made new canine friends in her foster home. She is still a little nervous. The world has not been kind to her no matter how sweet she is.
FOSTER UPDATE: Alina is the sweetest soul. She will welcome you good morning with a small “meow” and comes for head scratches. She loves to lay in bed with you at night and will lull you to sleep with her meditative purring. My hobbies include hide and seek, lying by a warm vent, and making copious amounts of biscuits.

There was so much concern and outpouring of love for the two kittens found running the roads on a cold snowy day that we wanted to provide an update.
Dolly and Daphne have been in care for one month. Dolly was just fluff, very small, too small compared to Daphne. We held off on her vaccines pending tests. We are glad to report that everything was negative and she is now growing and filling out.

FOSTER UPDATE: Dolly and Daphne are growing more comfortable and confident day by day! Like two kids at a sleepover, the late evening I can hear them running around playing, but as soon as I turn the lights on, they act like they aren’t up to something! Daphne has discovered she loves the top of the cat try and enjoys reigning over Dolly down below.

Noah is a very sweet boy who was surrendered to the vet by his owner due to a urinary obstruction. He was treated and discharged after a 5 day stay at Capital City Specialty & Emergency Animal Hospital.
To reduce the likelihood of him obstructing again he will have to remain on a vet prescribed wet food diet.
FOSTER UPDATE: Noah has been settling in over the last week. He’s a very loving boy who loves to play with spring toys and get lots of pets and love.
We thought you would like an update on the cat that we took into care last week.

Name: Freddie Mercury
Gender: Male (intact for now)
Breed: DSH
Est. DOB: unknown
Good with cats: untested, but very likely. Will confirm when he's out of quarantine.
Good with kids: yes!

FOSTER UPDATE: This sweet, gentle boy was found outside, freezing and injured. He was taken to the vet right away, given antibiotics, drops for his corneal ulcer, drops for his ear infection, and moved into his foster home. There's not an inch on this poor baby that isn't a scar, scratch, puncture wound or a peeling scab. He can't tell us his story, but we know it's not a happy one.
Named Freddie for having an impressive range. He cried incessantly for the first 2 nights but calmer now.
He's only been with us for 6 days, and it's already clear he's the sweetest teddy bear. We're giving him eye drops x3/day and ear drops x2/day, and although he's not thrilled about it, he's never hissed, scratched or shown any sign of aggression. We even got all his nails clipped - no biting, just squirming. He already met 3 other adults and 2 kids, and was a perfect gentleman each time.
Every day I collect more and more scabs and chunks of hair, as his wounds are healing. He may still look rough, but give him a couple week - safety, love and care will do their magic.
If you would like to help towards Freddie's care please consider sending your donations to [email protected], through PayPal at https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/OttawaKittenRescueCA... or

DECEMBER 24th: We wish our entire OKR family all the best this holiday season. Without you our rescues would not be here today. THANKYOU.
When asked why we save cats. This is the reason. Happy endings.
Just squeaking in before we (try) and slow down for the year. Goose has been adopted.
He has been adopted by the amazing family, long time fosters of many cats and recent adopter of the first cat they could not say good-bye to. Rooster.
Thanks to the OKR community’s support two cats saved from euthanasia are now living their best life together. We are told these cats are just perfect for each other. “Goose is so chill he is the perfect match for Rooster’s quirks and energy”
December 23rd: FINN is one lucky cat. Rescued from euthanasia he was a first time foster for people who wanted to help. This cat worked his tabby magic. First to cave in Mom, then Dad. Slowly but surely Finn worked his way into best buddy status with the resident cat. Of course they could not let him go. The best gift for all. A forever home for Finn and a buddy for Schrodie.
December 22nd , Merry and Pippin, (fka Almond and Hazelnut, of the Nutty Family) worked their kitten magic and we were told by their adopter ‘they have absolutely melted our hearts! We love our new family members so much!
December 21st: Janice. (Friends Family) It makes us so happy when we get updates from adopters and honoured when they turn to us to grow their feline family. Janice joined two OKR alumni and In the words of her adopter “She is an absolute joy and such a little sweetheart”
