As rescuers, we face a constant influx of intake requests. We who run the rescue work full-time, foster, and try to maintain some semblance of a personal life (how terrible, right?). We announced weeks ago that our intake is closed due to a lack of resources. We receive nearly 15-30 intake requests every week. Where are these cats supposed to go when no one is willing to foster? How are we supposed to support these cats when donations have halted?

And then we receive emails like this, attempting to guilt us because we didn’t help them. How are we supposed to do it all? People often direct their anger at us without understanding the full situation, only to hurt us.

Is it our fault these kittens didn’t make it? Absolutely not. What they don’t know is that we lost two alumni the day they first contact us—two cats who were deeply loved and whom we had saved. We were devastated and spent the day grieving their loss.

So remember to be kind to rescuers. Nothing is as it seems; we always have many things happening behind the scenes while trying to show up for the people in our lives.
