What a year! I was able to work with, permanently and temporarily foster 15 dogs, I met so many new people and dogs, I moved into an incredible home with 30 acres, went on a great family trip, Lyla and Chloe permanently came into my life and I started agility training as well!
So many amazing changes happened this year and I’m excited to see what 2024 brings!
Tuckered Out Training wishes you and your dogs an amazing new year filled with new adventures and great memories!

I haven’t posted training videos in a while so here are clips of our longer training session today!
The part where I am getting captain hyped up was an awesome test for Vincent, you can’t see him (I wish my camera could go wider) but Vincent was in a down, he had been in it for about 5 minutes at that point and he remained in the position the entire time without even attempting to release himself.
He continues to improve more as every day goes on and his impulse control and neutral mindset continues to grow!
We have done 2 training sessions so far outside of Canadian tire at a less busy time and both times have gone well overall but as he improves I’m hoping that we will be going inside at our next visit.

Nalu had his second session today of his 1:1 program!
He is a fear reactive dog towards people and other dogs inside and outside of them. Unfortunately Nalus mom has had to put new people coming into their home on hold because of his reactivity towards new people. He will lunge and bark for hours and unfortunately if provoked can go into fight mode to create space.
Nalus mom has been working a lot on a solid place command for Nalu to help begin giving him a safe spot to go. He made amazing progress today with recreating answering the door without reacting and he surpassed his feelings towards me when he got overwhelming and we ended it on an amazing note.
We also worked on building better leash manners and engagement when outside and he did amazing. He had no reaction to the few dogs that went by and to the few people we passed!
He has a ways to go with his confidence and changing his behaviour and feelings towards new people in the home but he is very eager to work and he has already made great progress!

I wanted to share this video as it’s a good example of how this reaction could’ve been prevented, and how mistakes were made dealing with Jax the German shepherd’s reaction.
At the start of the video you can slightly see Jax fixating on the dog that was across the road, counter conditioning should have started the second Jax made eye contact with that dog. Space then should have been created to keep him under threshold and in control.
Since I wasn’t fully aware of his reactivity. I didn’t prepare my partner who had Jax to do those steps that were needed. I made the mistake of calling jax name, many times which did not help as well as slowing down to a stop (I’m not a multitasker and wasn’t able to focus/handle jax and tucker at the same time)
Tucker has made amazing progress with his reactivity, and I was able to keep him under threshold despite Jax reacting and me not being totally focused on him and they both recovered well. If jax remained under threshold, both dogs wouldn’t of had a reaction which was my mistake.
This is why understanding how to work through reactivity and knowing the dog in front of you is important and not taking 2 dogs who are reactive on a walk together is also important.
(Unless in a fully controlled manner with all people understanding how to work through a reaction and/or keep the dog under threshold by knowing the dogs limits)

Theodore learning sit! He did amazing!🐾 Dog training tip: Record your videos! Why?: It can help improve your technique, see where you might of gone wrong and what you need to improve to help your pup! It can help you see the progress you are making! It can also help you see the position your dog is in and if there are any alterations needed! I noticed my hand is far up above Theodore which encouraged his front paws to lift more.I needed to lower my hand the second he sat which would of helped him keep his front paws down! This is a super easy fix but I didn’t realize where my hand position actually was until seeing the video! Now to improve 😊___#puppytraining #puppylove #trainingpuppies #dogtraining #positivetraining #dogtrainer #ottawapuppies #puppytrainingtips
