Although covered boxes are very popular, they can create a situation where a cat can feel trapped and vulnerable to ambush, especially in a multicat household where there is tension. If you have a covered box and everyone is happy, that's great, but if there are litter box issues, or your cats don't get along, pay close attention to whether the litter box set-up is truly cat safe.

Celebrating 1 Year in Business 🎉🐾

To my wonderful clients, friends and family,

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for trusting me with the care of your precious cats and your homes.

This first year has been filled with sandpaper kisses, tiny toe beans, and so much joy — all because of you.

I am deeply grateful for your support, your trust, and for letting me be part of your cats’ lives. Here’s to many more years of love, purrs, and paw prints!

With immense gratitude,
Courtney

Marty 🤎

His mom contacted me when Marty stopped acting like his usual self.
He’d gotten a new buddy, Molly, about 6 months prior. Then seemingly overnight, Marty changed.
He stopped playing, no more bedtime snuggles, he was eating less and hiding a lot. Often times he would survey the area on top of the stacked washer/dryer.

After recommending a thorough vet check to make sure there was nothing physically wrong with Marty, I went in to assess what was going on in the home.

Marty appeared stressed and depressed.
Molly was taking over everything and their resources were shared.

I worked with their person to move some things around.

1. Move food and water away from the litter boxes. Nobody wants to eat where they p**p, right 💩😉

2. Separate food bowls so they aren’t side by side.
Cats like to have their own spaces and resources. Having their food side by side makes them feel like they need to share.

3. Have a second bowl/fountain for water and make sure they are at least 4’ away from their food.
Cats instinctually avoid drinking near their food.
This behaviour is thought to stem from their wild ancestors, who would naturally eat away from their water source to prevent contamination. Some cats also don’t like smelling their food while drinking and having their food further away, keeps their water dish cleaner.

4. Add a separate litter box in a different space.

5. Try different toys and other enrichments to peak his interest. We all get bored of playing or watching with the same things over and over again.
So, change it up, add a new toy, rotate toys and offer enrichments that allow them to dig, forage, hide, climb, etc.

6. Get them a cat tree!

After making these changes and gradually adding to the toy repertoire, I’m happy to report that Marty is back to his usual self.
He’s playing, eating what he should, has night time cuddles with his person and sometimes, their human catches him and Molly just chilling out together!

Sammy 🩶

You know this big guy loves you when he flops at your feet and gives you his belly for pets.
He’s a lover.
Sammy’s favourite spot was his bowl bed next to his sister Lucy. They would look outside together.
When Lucy was diagnosed with cancer, nothing could be done to save her.
Sammy has been depressed since his little buddy has passed away. So much, that he’d completely stopped using his bowl bed. 💔

But, on my last sit with Sammy, a cardinal came to the window and stayed there for a couple of minutes. After the cardinal flew away, Sammy got into his bowl bed and spent his time during my visits laying in his bed, looking out the window.

They say when a cardinal lands in your yard, it’s a loved one that’s passed coming to visit.
We’d like to think it was Lucy letting Sammy know that she’s okay. ❤️😻

Spaying a cat isn’t just about controlling the cat population.
It’s also about maintaining her health and well-being.
If you need help finding low cost spay/neuter options, I’d be happy to help connect you with local organizations or clinics to keep your cats healthy and happy.

Cat pyometra is a serious, potentially life-threatening uterine infection that affects unspayed female cats.

What Causes Pyometra in Cats?

Pyometra typically occurs due to hormonal changes during a cat’s heat cycle:
1. When a female cat goes into heat, her body produces the hormone progesterone after ovulation, which thickens the uterine lining in preparation for pregnancy. If she doesn’t become pregnant after multiple heat cycles, the uterine lining can continue to thicken abnormally (a condition called cystic endometrial hyperplasia). This environment becomes ideal for bacterial growth.
2. Bacteria (often E. coli from the cat’s own f***s) can enter the uterus through the open cervix during her heat cycle. Once inside, they multiply in the thickened uterine lining, leading to infection and accumulation of pus.

Types of Pyometra
1. Open Pyometra:
• The cervix remains open.
• Pus or discharge may be seen coming from the v***a.
• Symptoms may be more noticeable earlier.
2. Closed Pyometra:
• The cervix is closed.
• No discharge is visible, so the infection builds up inside the uterus.
• This form is more dangerous because it can go unnoticed and lead to uterine rupture, sepsis, or death.

How Cats Acquire Pyometra
• Only affects unspayed females. Most common after a heat cycle, particularly if the cat was not bred.

Symptoms to Watch For
• Vaginal discharge (especially in open pyometra)
• Lethargy
• Loss of appetite
• Vomiting
• Increased thirst and urination
• Swollen abdomen (especially in closed pyometra)
• Fever (sometimes)

Treatment
The standard treatment is emergency spaying!

Prevention
Spaying your cat is the only true prevention!

She and her followers have worked hard to get the sanctuary’s space ready for the chunky cats to come.

Please take a look at their page and give them some love.

Finn ❤️

Mr. Finny, Finnigan, Max’s brother from another mother.

Finn is also a big boi, like his brother Max.
Highly food motivated, but even more so with play! Finn LOVES the stringy wand toys and thoroughly enjoys stalking their movement so he can pounce on it.
He’s a great little hunter.
Not a fan of nail trims or baths, but with a little pep talk and Churu help, we get through it!

Big Boi, Maxer, Maximus

He’s shy, he hides, he keeps his distance.
But, take out a string toy and you’re his best buddy!
He has such a cute pounce mode with eyes like marbles.
