Happy !

Not only does (and ) help prevent overpopulation and reduce the number of animals in shelters, but it can also improve your pet’s long-term health.

🐶In Dogs🐶:
✅ Prevents heat cycles – No more dealing with your dog going into heat.
✅ Prevents pyometra – A life-threatening uterine infection that can affect unspayed dogs.
✅ Reduces breast cancer risk – Female dogs spayed before their first heat have less than a 0.5% chance of developing breast cancer.
✅ Eliminates risk of uterine & ovarian cancer – Spaying completely removes the possibility of these cancers. (Neutering can prevent testicular cancer, prostate disease, and perianal tumors).
✅ Stops false pregnancy – Prevents hormone fluctuations that can cause false pregnancies after a heat cycle.
✅ Prevents escape behavior – Dogs in heat often try to escape to find a mate. Spaying stops this dangerous behavior.
✅ Reduces separation anxiety & accidents – Spaying and neutering can help with anxiety and reduce accidents in the house and urine marking.
✅ Increases lifespan – Spayed and neutered dogs often live longer, healthier lives than those who aren’t.

🐱In Cats🐱:
✅ Prevents ovarian & uterine cancers – Spaying removes the risk of these serious cancers.
✅ Reduces breast cancer risk – Spayed female cats have less than a 0.5% chance of getting breast cancer, which is the most common cancer in unspayed female cats.
✅ Prevents pyometra – Spaying stops a life-threatening uterine infection called pyometra.
✅ Helps with medical conditions – For cats with diabetes or epilepsy, spaying prevents hormonal changes that can interfere with their medication.
✅ Helps your pet & the community – Spaying or neutering improves your pet’s health and contributes to the well-being of animals everywhere.

Book an appointment today, and help us spread the word about the importance of spaying and neutering.

This little guy went through a lot.

A young Australian shepherd puppy was brought to VCA Canada Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital after an accident where hot water was spilled, resulting in 3rd degree burns over 30% of his body.

His burn wounds were so severe that he also ended up with some kidney issues and needed to be hospitalized. So, he was surrendered to the Victoria Humane Society for ongoing care.

Thanks to our amazing program, the incredible team at the humane society, and the support of the community coming together to fundraise, he was given a second chance at life!

He’s since made a great recovery, but he’ll live with chronic kidney issues, some scars, and parts of his skin will be hairless. So, get ready for some sunscreen, lotion, and maybe even a few stylish outfits in his very bright future! 💙🐾

Did you know that in is similar to in humans? It's a common problem, but it’s also preventable.

Periodontal Disease always starts with inflammation of the gums, also known as , and it is the only truly reversable stage. Left alone however, the bacteria in the mouth will mix with food and saliva and form a sticky layer called plaque. If the plaque then isn’t removed, it turns into tartar (a hard, yellow-brown substance) that can then damage the teeth. 😬

Once tartar has formed, professional scaling and polishing under general anesthesia will be needed as it cannot easily be removed by diets and/or brushing.

But don’t worry—regular veterinary check-ups and dental cleanings can help prevent these issues!

You may not be able to ask your questions to find out what they're thinking, but there are some basic things you can do to ensure they are happy and healthy.

Start with a well-rounded diet and plenty of playtime to prevent any weight-gain or issues with obesity. A healthy weight helps avoid issues like diabetes and joint problems down the line.

🦷 Don't forget about their teeth—regular brushing and can make a big difference in preventing gum disease and tooth loss.

💧 is super important so make sure your cat is drinking enough water daily, or try some to help them out. Urinary tract problems can be a concern, especially in male cats, so keeping them hydrated and making sure the litter box stays clean is key.

🐈 Cats naturally need to shed the outer layer of their claws, and scratching helps them do that. By using a , they can safely shed old claw sheaths and keep their claws sharp and healthy. Without a proper outlet, cats may scratch furniture, carpets, or even themselves, potentially causing injury or damage.

As your cat ages, kidney health becomes more important, so regular visits will help catch any issues early. Watch for signs of diabetes, like excessive thirst or weight loss, and keep an eye on their food intake.

💡 Pro Tip: Make sure your cat gets their regular to stay protected.

We believe a strong community is built on care, compassion, and looking out for each other—including the pets who need us.

Through our community outreach programs like , , and partnerships with and , we’re working hard to make sure every pet gets the love and essentials they deserve for a happy, healthy life.

For many pet owners, especially those going through tough times, the love for their pets often means putting their own needs aside. It's not always easy to afford food, vet visits, and other care for our furry friends.

That's why we're here—to help with food for families, supplies for shelters, free rabies and vaccine clinics across Canada, and giving rescue animals a second chance.

Together, we can make a real difference for our pets and our community!

Keep an eye on our socials for some pretty incredible stories. 🐾💙
