Imagine, if you will, a relay race for dogs! Flyball is a fast and furious sport, where a team of 4 dogs race one at a time over 4 jumps to retrieve a ball from a spring-loaded box and then back again. The world’s fastest teams run all 4 dogs through the relay in under 16 seconds! During these courses, each element of the race will be broken down and taught – jumping, retrieving, activating the box, turns and, of course, SPEED! Flyball is a great way to burn off excess energy in your hyperactive dog.

Our competition obedience students wrapped the 2024 session today with some fun and games. Here, they had to get as much water into a distant mason jar as possible, using only a spoon to transport the water! Dogs were either required to heel or to stay at various stages of the game. Lots of fun, and the floors are now very clean, too :-)

The November start to our Professional Dog Trainer's program is coming soon!

Unit 1 consists of 40 hours of lecture and practical exercises, covering the foundation information and science every dog trainer should know. This course is suited to those aspiring to become dog trainers, to those working in rescue and shelters, to owners who just want to be better trainers for their own dogs. Are you and your dog interested in service to community, as a therapy dog team? Therapy dogs visit patients in hospital, seniors residences, bringing comfort and unconditional love. They can help university students coping with exam stress, or lie quietly and supportively by a witness waiting to testify in court.

Our next Therapy Dog prep class begins on Wed, Sept 18th, at 8:30pm. Completion of Beginner Obed is a pre-req.

It's been a busy few days! SAR Camp Aug 2024 is now complete, after 3 amazing, full, busy, exhausting days with great people and wonderful dogs. Mother Nature cooperated and only blasted us with heat/humidity on Day 1. There is one more day to go, for those who signed on to the Intro to Human Remains Detection day. Enjoy a few early pics from the past 3 days here( we were too busy having fun to take many pictures!).

If you are waiting on replies to emails or voicemails, we'll be back to regular hours on Wednesday.

Rally Obedience - a combination of obedience skills, and the ability to move through a course from station to station, executing fundamental behaviours at each station. For the first time in a long time, we have been able to add Intro level courses to our schedule! Pre-req is completion of Beginner Obedience.

Best Friends will be taking our annual summer break July 29 - Aug 11. This means that the office will be unmanned during this period. Phone calls and e-mails won't receive replies until Aug 12. But our on-line booking system will still be active, so you can register for services/appointments as available through the website.

Weeknight group classes and scheduled private lessons will continue as usual.

Thank you for your patience, as we spend quality time with our families and recharge for Back To School in Sept.

Our June SAR Camp wrapped today. Unpredictable weather meant we couldn't run our usual Amazing Race but instead we did a mock SAR Ex, some classroom time. Some students are now on their way home, some will join us for an extra day of Intro to Human Remains Detection tomorrow. Photo credits to J. Watkins and S. Read.
