Deacon and his foster Dad would like everyone to know how much of a rockstar he was at his vet appointment yesterday! Here are some pictures of him practicing to be patient while we wait for the vet to come into the room. Look at the focus, even when he heard people outside of the room (the last picture when one of his ears is further back). Great job, Deacon!!

Deacon and all of the animals here at Amber's Angels come microchipped, fixed, and up to date on their vaccinations. We also offer lifetime support, not only with any behaviour challenges that may arise, but also if you need an emergency sitter (location depending on if we have space, but we can usually board them here, or we will offer to stay with them in your home). Hello, everyone! Deacon would like everyone to know that he likes cottage cheese so much, he saves some for later on his bottom lip.

He'd also just like to remind everyone to stay safe over the next fex days, while Ottawa has its first heat wave of the year. Here is a chart you can use to help determine if it's too hot (or too cold when the time comes) for your dog. Remember that all dogs are different, some can tolerate warmer weather than this chart says, and some can't tolerate the amount this chart says they should. Know your dog and their signs.
Here are some ways to help keep your dog safe and cool in hot weather:

- Know the signs of heat stroke: https://ontariospca.ca/blog/know-the-signs-heatstroke/
- Never leave your dog in a car unattended, even with the window cracked.
- ALWAYS give your dog access to water unless your vet has them on a specific amount for a health condition. Limiting water isn't needed for healthy dogs, not even for potty training puppies.
- Make sure your dog has somewhere in the shade to hang out if they insist on spending some time outside.
- Take walks early in the morning or late at night to avoid mid-day temperatures.
- Take walks with a lot of sniffing as opposed to high energy activities like fetch.
- Play games like tug, or "living room parkour" (if you have air conditioning and the space for it) to get some pent up energy out.
- Work on teaching your dog some new tricks
- Play "find it!" inside
- Freeze dog safe bone broth, vegetables, wet food, etc. In food toys or ice cube trays (to pop out and give you your dog).

We have had an eventful few weeks, and unfortunately in the chaos, we missed posting a happy second birthday for the Gems! Happy birthday, Garnet, Topaz, Sapphire, and Malachite! Born on May 13th, which was a Friday, these are some of the sweetest cats I've ever met!

It's a little late of a post, but Deacon turned 2 on March 4th- Happy birthday, Deacon! Of course he and Addy got a special dinner of lamb and green tripe, with mixed vegetables, but he also got a new toy! His ducky is still his favourite, though 🤣

Deacon's foster Dad had a very busy week. Deacon had some big feelings and told him about it when he finally got home last night, but luckily today was much more quiet and back to the normal cuddling/ playing schedule. Here's a video of Deacon telling his foster Dad how big of an abondon he's done this week, and a picture of this evening, with him cuddling with foster Dad, and his foster sister, Addy will be in the comments, because Facebook won't allow us to post a picture and a video in the same post for some reason.

There are dogs who like winter, and there is Deacon 🤣

Although he likes exploring, Deacon requires a sweater or jacket if the temperature is below 7C, and will be expecting you to open the door before he's even done going potty, so he can run back in to the warmth asap. If you want someone who will still take walks in the winter, but will be ecstatic to head back inside for a good scritching and cuddle session, Deacon might be your boy!
