Do you have any collars your pets have outgrown or no longer need?

We have teamed up with Heart to Paws to donate blankets, collars, booties, leashes and any other items that help keep pets warm in the cold months of Winter.

We will be donating all items to pets and families in need. We are grateful for any donations we can get! 🐶 🐱

October is Farley Foundation month.
For the month of October we will be raising money by donation for the Farley Foundation, here is their website to learn more!

When you are in hospital a small donation can be made and a coloured paw print with either your name, your pets name or even both get displayed around the front of the building. There are some really fun goodie bags as well 🤩

Please ask us more about it in hospital!
If you’re unable to make a donation it is always great to spread the word

Changing lives.Right now, many people who love their pets dearly face a terrible reality: their pet needs a critical procedure or treatment, but they just can’t afford the cost. This is such a lonely and devastating position to be in – to forego non-elective treatment, or, in some cases, to euth...

Here are some maps that provide statistics on reported Tick borne disease cases and positive heartworm cases in Canada.

Ticks are more prevalent and HUNGRY in the fall season. A great way to protect your pet and to bring these reported numbers down are to give the monthly chew! Products such as: NexGard Spectra, Simparica TRIO, and HearGard (Only Heartworm). There are also products for cats such as NexGard Combo, and Revolution PLUS.

When you are out for a long walk in the forest, or in long grass it is always a great idea to complete a thorough exam of your pets’ fur. Please see the diagram on where ticks are commonly found.

If you could like more information on American statistics here is the website where the maps were sourced from. https://capcvet.org/

Cats have 480 tastebuds!

Cats are unable to taste anything sweet, it’s the fat content of the food item that draws them in, to what we consider to be sweet.

It’s important to keep cats away from bitter food. Bitter signals to the brain as dangerous or poisoned.

Make sure to keep cats away from citrus fruits, coffee (beans/grounds/liquid), chocolate, grapes, garlic, and onions as these are toxic.

Thank you for participating in the poll!

There is a heat warning in effect until 8:43pm this evening.
Just a friendly reminder to avoid walking during the afternoon and to avoid asphalt for long periods of time!

If you do go for walks stick to shaded areas or grass to help prevent burnt paw pads.
As always have fresh water available 😊

Have a great start to the week everyone

Educational post on the importance of dental radiographs (x-Ray’s) under general anesthesia. We had permission to post the x-ray from our patient’s owner!

The first photo provided shows the internal aspect of a tooth, you can see black lines inside the tooth (that make the letter “N” inside the tooth) which is called the pulp cavity. The pulp cavity is where nerves and blood vessels are located.

In the second photo you can see a black circle which is an area of internal resorption of the tooth, the tooth is breaking down and being resorbed from the inside out. This is usually due to infection of the pulp cavity or inflammation.
If this tooth was to have only had cosmetic cleaning the inside of this tooth would not have been known. The tooth appeared healthy when examining it externally. However, with dental x-rays, we can see this tooth is diseased and either requires a root canal or extraction. For this patient the tooth was extracted!

We acknowledge that general anesthesia can be scary, however dental radiographs under general anesthesia are vital in assessing the health of teeth below the gum line.

When going for walks on hot days please take into consideration how hot the pavement is.
Going for walks in early morning or late evening are always great, if you do go for midday walks try to stick to a shaded or grass, bring water and take breaks when needed.
