#OnTargetTuesday 🎯 To date, AGROW has successfully trained 48 Village Animal Health Workers (VAHWs) – like Venn Samphors – across #Cambodia’s Battambang province!
🎥 Venn Samphors has been a VAHW since 2006. She is the only VAHW in her village and visits nearly 10 farms per day. In addition to animal health, AGROW trains VAHWs in gender equity and One Health.
🙌 The fact is, VAHWs fill a critical gap in providing essential veterinary care in rural Cambodia. Moreover, this grassroots approach to animal healthcare enhances animal health and livelihoods.

🦗 To date, AGROW has successfully trained 89 women in cricket farming across Cambodia’s Battambang province. In addition to training in cricket health, women learn about One Health and gender equity - making the connection between animal, human and environmental health, and the importance of sharing household workloads.

#VETSVolunteerVoices 🌍 In this issue, Maria Stanborough, a Communications Volunteer recently in Ghana, shares a reflective blog about her time documenting the work of veterinary volunteers on placement alongside her…
🗣 “The veterinarian volunteers facilitate up to 6 workshops each day, focusing on the most common diseases the farmers must deal with and how to prevent their spread. My role is to document the talks and interview participants, mostly women, because VETS is focused on ensuring women farmers have the information they need to succeed."

#VETSVolunteerVoices 🌍 Meet Dr. Jaimee Gardner (DVM), a Canadian veterinarian recently on VETS volunteer placement in #Kenya! With years of education and experience in bovine nutrition, herd health, and veterinary medicine, Jaimee was eager to bring her passion for #dairycows to our partner, Meru Dairy.
🐄 When asked about her motivation for embarking on this (her third!) volunteer placement with VWB, she makes the crucial #OneHealth connection…
🗣 “I believe a sustainable food system is at the root of all civilization. By coming here and hopefully helping (Kenyan) farmers to increase production, we reduce the need for antimicrobial use and make happy, healthy cows. In turn, happy, healthy cows create a happy, healthy human population, and a happy, healthy environment.”

💧 Today, on #WorldWaterDay 2024, we're reminded of the profound connection between water and health. At Veterinarians Without Borders, we champion the One Health model, recognizing the intricate linkages between the health of animals, people, and our environment. Water, the essence of life, plays a pivotal role in this holistic approach. 💧
We’re reminded about how vital our water is to life and heath: from small scale watering of individual crops, sanitation, sustaining animals in need, to the major impacts of water in controlling the wildfires in the north or responding to communities and animals in need dealing with flooding and natural disaster.
Through our one health model, VWB is committed to safeguarding water sources, advocating for equitable access, and fostering sustainable practices that ensure a healthier and more resilient world for all.💙 #OneHealth #WaterIsLife #HealthForAll #Sustainability #VeterinariansWithoutBorders

#VETSVolunteerVoices 🌍 “Nestled high in the grassy hills of Kenya’s Meru County lies the small-scale dairy farm of Beth Naito. Beth, the proud owner of two Holstein Friesian cows, has been dairy farming for 7 years. Today, she is hailed as a “Community One Health Champion” and has doubled the milk output of her cows. Beth’s journey to champion began with training in livestock health, welfare, and productivity by dedicated VETS volunteers…”

With our Northern team delayed getting to #Igloolik due to weather, they spent three days in Iqaluit waiting for clear skies. In the hotel they ran into Abby and her human, also waiting to travel to Igloolik. They made the most of the chance encounter and Abby got her check-up and vaccines on the spot, and while the vaccines weren’t the treat Abby was hoping for, she did get her very own VWB bandana.
Our team has since made it safely to Igloolik and we’re excited to get our clinic underway! #animalhealth #NAHI
#FromtheFieldFriday 📢 Did you know? Cricket farming is a game-changer for women's livelihoods in #Cambodia! Here's a sneak peek at this innovative endeavor, featuring Ms. Chhun Ly and her husband, two very successful cricket farmers with our AGROW program.
🦗 In rural areas, women like Ms. Chhun Ly are taking charge by cultivating #crickets as a source of income. From breeding to processing, they are driving economic growth while promoting eco-friendly practices.
🌾 AGROW, our 3-year program, is enhancing the resilience of women and girls through #cricketfarming and other sustainable interventions in Cambodia's Battambang province. From chicken to cattle farming, we're fostering sustainable food production and farm diversification.

🌍🐾 Ensuring the health and well-being of animals, people, and environments in conflict zones is crucial. In Ukraine, amidst the turmoil, spay and neuter programs play a vital role in promoting stability and compassion.
👉 Preventing Overpopulation: In areas affected by conflict, resources are often scarce. By spaying and neutering animals, we can control the population growth of stray animals, preventing further strain on already limited resources.
👉Health Benefits: Spaying and neutering not only reduce the number of homeless animals but also contribute to their overall health. It helps prevent diseases and reduces the risk of injuries from territorial disputes among unaltered animals.
👉 Community Health: Stray animals can pose health risks to humans, especially in areas where access to medical care is challenging. Spay and neuter programs help mitigate these risks, creating safer environments for communities.
We're proud to support spay and neuter initiatives with our partners such as International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Veterinary Foundation Poland in conflict areas of Ukraine. By doing so, we not only improve the lives of animals but also contribute to the well-being of communities in need. 🕊️❤️ #SpayNeuter #AnimalWelfare #Ukraine #OneHealth #VWB

🐾 Tips for keeping your four-legged friends safe this holiday!🎄
'Tis the season for joy and festivities, but it's crucial to keep our furry friends safe during the holidays. Here are some ways that you can make sure your pets are kept safe this season.
Keep toxic foods out of reach: 🍫 Be cautious when leaving out holiday treats like chocolate, onions, garlic, grapes, raisins, and artificial sweeteners (watch out for xylitol), which can be toxic to your pets.
Holiday Plants: 🌺 Some festive plants like poinsettias, mistletoe, and holly can be poisonous if ingested by pets. Put them in hard-to-reach places, like on top of plant stands or shelves.
Tinsel and Ornaments: ✨ Cats are notorious for playing with these, but they can pose a choking or intestinal blockage risk if ingested.
Candles and Decorations: 🕯️ Ensure pets can't knock over candles or chew on decorations to avoid burns, fires, or ingestion of harmful materials.
Holiday Lights: 💡 Secure electrical cords to prevent pets from chewing on them, risking electrical shock or burns.
Guests and Noise: 🎉 The hustle and bustle of the holidays can stress some pets; provide a quiet retreat for them, if needed.
Gift Wrapping and Packaging: 🎁 Ribbons, bows, and gift wrap can be tempting but pose a choking or blockage risk if ingested.
Spread the word to fellow pet parents! With these tips, you can ensure a happy and healthy holiday for everyone, including your beloved furry companions. 🐶🐱 #HappyHolidays #PetSafety #HolidayHazards #FurryFriendsFirst #vwbvsf
