"Feel-good Friday photos" ❤

Meet Phoebe - this wee girl was in earlier this summer. Admitted for lower back pain, we performed an MRI to diagnose the problem. Following a Dorsal Laminectomy (spinal surgery), Phoebe recovered nicely at home. We received a message today from her grateful family (some months after her stay with us).

"Phoebe has been brave and a real trooper recovering from her spinal surgery.
She loves her toys again! If she can’t reach what she wants, she makes a growly noise and points with her nose.
She follows me around the house, her nose touching my calf every other step.
I have my girl back! I want to thank the whole team for the wonderful care you gave Phoebe. She has a second chance of living her best life. I am forever grateful."

We love it when families keep us updated on the progress of their furry family members! It's definitely a team effort. Keep up the good work, Phoebe! ❤🐾

Feel-good Friday!

✨ Meet Nelson! ✨
This sweet Lab is a true testament to what faith, medicine, and teamwork can achieve.

At just 3 weeks old, Nelson began showing neurological symptoms. By 18 weeks, he underwent a right-sided occipital craniotomy at the VSCAN to remove a large intrarachnoid cyst confirmed on MRI. Thanks to his incredible family’s faith, his curious and enthusiastic spirit, and the dedication of his medical team, Nelson not only recovered—he thrived.

Four years later, Nelson returned to VSCAN for a visit with Neurologist Dr. Philip Jull. It was inspiring to see him full of life, reconnecting with the people who helped him on his journey. 💙🐾

Here’s to Nelson—proof of resilience, love, and the power of veterinary medicine!

Feel-Good Friday 💖
Celebrating Veterinary Assistant Week!

This week (and every week!), we’re shining a spotlight on the unsung heroes of our hospital—our amazing veterinary assistants: Lauren, Erika, Joao, and Claudia.

Veterinary assistants are the glue that holds the clinic together. They’re the first to jump in wherever help is needed—whether that means calming a nervous patient, providing compassionate support to clients, prepping for surgery, managing treatments, assisting with anesthesia, performing advanced imaging studies (MRI and CT), or staying late to make sure everything is spotless and ready for the next day.

No task is too big or too small. They work across departments, juggle a million responsibilities, and still manage to bring warmth, professionalism, and compassion to every shift.

With diverse backgrounds—from vet med programs to international veterinary experience—this team brings a wealth of knowledge and heart to everything they do. Their love for animals is only matched by their incredible work ethic and willingness to go above and beyond their job description.

Thank you, Lauren, Erika, Joao, and Claudia, for all that you do. Our hospital runs stronger, smoother, and more compassionately because of you. 💕

Our team is committed to provide the same compassionate care our clients and veterinary community have come to expect and deserve. 💖
Stay tuned as we continue to grow. 🐾

This past week has been DVM Appreciation week! We’re proud to celebrate the outstanding doctors who bring skill, compassion, and dedication to every patient they care for. At the VSCAN, our neurologist, Dr. Philip Jull, and anesthesiologist, Dr. Stefania Grasso lead a team of residents and interns. These teams of professionals are true problem-solvers, working together every day to improve the lives of furry family members and support the trusted primary care vets who refer to us.
From complex neurological disorders to the safe anesthetic care of our most fragile patients, and advanced imaging that reveals what can’t be seen on the surface, our doctors are key to everything we do.
We are privileged to collaborate with two other remarkable specialists providing services through our facility:
🐾 Dr. Colleen Wilson, Veterinary Specialist in Animal Behaviour
🫀 Dr. Jean-Sebastian Boileau, Veterinary Cardiologist
Thank you to each of our doctors for your brilliance, your kindness, and your unwavering commitment to our patients. We appreciate each and every one of you. 💕

“Feel-good Friday photos💖”
Puppy day at the VSCAN. These little charmers were in today for BAER testing.
The Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response evaluation is a non-invasive hearing test that allows us to confirm the existence of congenital or acquired hearing loss. This specialized test for dogs and cats takes approximately 10-15 minutes and tests each ear individually. BAER testing can be performed at any point in a dog or cat’s life. If you are interested in testing puppies or kittens, it can be performed after 8 weeks of age.
Kudos to the breeder of these cuties for their approach to a responsible breeding program by having BAER testing done.
A fun day for VSCAN team members too! 💕

Enjoy your day with the special beings in your life ❤❤
"Queen Victoria was the ultimate royal animal lover. She had many pets from an early age and throughout her life. As a young girl, her life was strictly regimented, with lessons, simple food, and ample fresh air and exercise. Her mother, the Duchess of Kent, did not like to allow her to play with children who weren't royal, so dolls and animals became her companions."
