“Feel-good Friday photos!” Meet Kelso and mum, Christina. This handsome boy was in today with gifts of appreciation for the VSCAN team. It’s no secret that Veterinary teams are highly “food-motivated “! 😉 Even more important are the stories we hear from families that keeps us doing what we do. 💕
Christina shared with us that Kelso’s behaviour had changed once he started having seizures.
She said he used to put all of his toys in his mouth when he was younger and that stopped when he started having his neuro issues. He hasn’t done it for years. Since starting on the meds he’s started doing it again!

“Feel-good Friday photos!” 💖

Meet Master, Peace, and Victoria. This adorable trio came in for BAER testing to check their hearing today. Maine C***s are listed as one of the breeds known to have a higher risk of deafness, and this quick, simple test lets us know if any hearing loss exists.

During the test, soft clicks are played through earplugs while tiny sensors record brain and nerve responses. The process takes just 10–15 minutes, and our expert “kitten-whisperer” keeps the kittens calm the entire time.

We commend responsible breeders who prioritize health testing for their puppies and kittens!

A boat-load of spotted puppy energy! These wee charmers visited today for BAER testing.
🐶 Did you know Dalmatian puppies are at higher risk for hearing issues? That’s why BAER testing is so important! Here at the VSCAN we help breeders and owners find out if their pups are fully hearing, partially hearing, or deaf. It’s quick, safe, and we applaud responsible breeders who include testing as part of a responsible program. 🐾

This stylish girl is very “popular” aka “spoiled” by VSCAN team members whenever she comes into the clinic. She’s always in a great mood and is the absolute sweetest girl!
Her Mom reports that treatments for hind end ataxia have been working well and they’re pleased with the progress Yam is making in her walking.

Braving the season’s first blizzard, 34 Veterinary professionals gathered at VSCAN for an unforgettable evening! Dr. Lianna Titcombe, Dr. Allison Rousselle, and registered social worker/pet loss counselor Melanie Savage shared their expertise on home hospice and palliative care, in-home euthanasia, and pet loss counselling . Their wisdom was heartfelt and practical, giving us tools to better support clients during these profound times while reminding us to care for ourselves too. A truly meaningful night!

“Feel-good Friday photos” 💖
This adorable boy, Archie - recovering in style following a spinal surgery. We love our little red wagon for some of our post op patients. It allows us to take them outside for some fresh air - which is great for our team members as well! Even within the clinic, it’s easy to transport these little ones to be close to someone while they are typing up medical records, etc. TLC is as important as the more scientific therapies we use during post op recovery!

Feel-good Friday photos! 💖 Too cute for words!

These adorable 11-week-old Khao Manee kittens had Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response (BAER) hearing tests with us today. Some breeds of dogs and cats have a genetic predisposition to deafness, and we applaud responsible breeders who test for these conditions.

The BAER test takes 10-15 minutes, assessing each ear individually. It can be performed on furry babies over 8 weeks old.

Electrodes placed just under the skin are connected to a computer, which sends clicks into each ear. The electrodes detect activity in the hearing pathways, producing waveforms similar to an EKG. Peaks indicate hearing activity, while flat waveforms show deafness.

It has been a while since we've put out an update regarding our COVID-19 policy so we thought it would be a good idea to let you know how things are running here at the VSCAN. As of now we are still maintaining our previously released policy but we are constantly monitoring the situation and working on progressive reopening plan once we feel it is safe to do so. The most important thing is to make sure we are protecting our staff and our clients while maintaining the ability to provide neurology and imaging services to the community. If you have any questions regarding our policy please give us a call and stay tuned for future updates from our team. Stay safe everyone.
