Lets help tiny Bella get the care she needs. Any donation will be a great help. She reminds me so much of our tiny Lily who weighed 2.1 lbs when we adopted her.

We welcomed this teeny tiny little angel today. Miss Bella is probably 3lbs or under and a spunky senior. Bella’s Mum recently passed away and this wee one has been in turmoil ever since.

Our friends at Furry Tails Grooming (Lisa Roca) will be fixing little Bella up tomorrow and then she’s off to the vet Thursday for her intake medical and senior bloodwork.

With very mixed emotions I have made the difficult decision to retire from VPAWS.

My Story began in 2011 following volunteer work with Humane Society International. I developed a passion to help puppy mill dogs and to educate the public at large about the horrors of puppy mills and the pitfalls of buying puppies from anonymous unethical sources. Puppymill Awareness Working Solutions was born.

In 2012, I started campaigning the City of Ottawa and, with the strength, support and expertise of many animal advocates, we succeeded in introducing a bylaw to ban the sale of cats and dogs through pet store/retail channels, most of whom were sourced from puppy mills. This was a win for animals, even although the internet continues to be a big challenge in ending puppy mill practices.

We then developed age appropriate educational programs and for a number of years enjoyed weekly visual and interactive presentations to children and youth groups. Following covid, it became increasingly difficult to continue with this, and so we reinvented ourselves into VPAWS, and found a much needed niche in working with the homeless and vulnerable, offering their pets much needed access to quality vet care. This has been our mandate for the last five years.

It has been an incredible journey.

I take this opportunity to thank every volunteer partner, past and present, who joined me on this journey and who gave their all to help animals. It has been a privilege and an inspiration working with all of you and developing VPAWS into what it is today.

I would like to extend my immense gratitude to every single supporter who believed in our cause and so generously supported us throughout our fundraising efforts. We could not have done any of it without you. I personally could not have done it without the help of Daniel, my hubby, my rock, whose volunteering efforts turned into a full-time commitment.

VPAWS will continue to develop its mandate and move forward in a way that will allow them to best serve animals within our community.

I am planning one last fundraiser for August 26th. If you are out and about in the Rockland area, please drop in to say hello. After that, I need to exhale, ground myself and prepare for whatever new challenges lie ahead.

My heart and soul will always be in helping animals and I will always embrace the opportunity to ease the life of any animal in distress.

***MOVING/GARAGE SALE*** Come see us this saturday 10 to 2pm at 1951 Lemery St., Bourget to stock up on bows and bandanas. Need to reduce inventory and help a rescue. Lots of other dog items such as agility tunel, car seat, carry pouches, leashes... are also available for a donation. Other house items such as furniture, dishes, camping stuff, large selection of tools are also available.

We're excited to roll out our first fundraiser of 2023 under our new name, VULNERABLE PAWS PROJECT.

(Facebook has been advised and we expect our FB page to be updated any day now).

In collaboration with other groups who work tirelessly to help animals, such as Community Veterinary Outreach and The HolliBell Foundation, we help the most vulnerable people in our community, including homeless people who share their lives with pets, often the only family they have.

We provide these animals with access to veterinarian services and quality pet food, two things that burden these owners with untold hardships.

We extend our immense thanks to our sponsors, Kayla's Dog Grooming for hosting this event, and to Pet Valu for donating the most amazing gift baskets.

And the biggest shoutout to our very own volunteers, Mary, Sue, Karen, Madeleine, and Gisele, whose efforts behind the scenes never end. 💞

Here are a few things Abby would like her future family to know about her:

- She was diagnosed with mega esophagus and needs to eat in a Bailey Chair.
- She is a sweet and snuggly little girl
- She loves everyone she meets and is good with the other dogs in her foster home
- She loves toys and car rides
- She loves to be nice and warm at night and would love to sleep nice and close her future family

This little kitten was found lost or abandoned outside the Vila St-Paul in Plantagenet. Can anyone help find him/her a home. it is currently living outside but the residents are giving it some food and water. Please let me know and I can provide transport and will donate for his/her first visit at the vet.
