Case of the week ❤️🩺

Meet Flora, a 5 years old standard poodle, who came to our Emergency department over the weekend for signs of “retching” and for having a distended abdomen. She was quickly diagnosed with a Gastric Dilation and Volvulus (GDV) or “Bloat”.
GDV is a life threatening disorder, which can quickly result in death if surgery is not pursued.

Deep chested dog such as herself, are most at risk. Luckily, her owners recognized the signs of bloat early and rushed her in.
Surgery was performed to return the stomach to its normal position and to tack it to the body wall (a gastropexy) to help prevent future GDV.

She has done very well post-op!!! We wish Flora a continued seamless recovery. 🫶🏼

Our talented veterinary radiologist, Dr. Raj Multani (DACVR), recently led two hands-on 3-hour sessions with our emergency doctors, focusing on AFAST and TFAST techniques. These focused trainings not only sharpen our team's diagnostic skills but also highlight our commitment to continuous education within the hospital.

The sessions were a resounding success, enhancing the quality of medicine we provide and, most importantly, improving the care for our patients and peace of mind for pet owners. 💙🐶🐱

First Talk by Our New Veterinary Radiologist! 😃

This week marked the first mandatory educational session by Dr. Rajdeep Multani, our new veterinary board-certified radiologist, who gave an insightful and engaging talk to our staff, setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting new chapter in our practice.
Dr. Multani began by introducing himself, sharing his background, and detailing his journey into veterinary radiology. ⛰️✈️

One of the highlights of the talk was Dr. Multani’s focus on the importance of collaboration and high-quality radiographs acquisition which maximize the interpretation accuracy to make informed decisions. Dr. Multani encouraged the staff to approach him with any questions about best imaging technique or modality to use for individual cases. He stressed out that he is not just here to provide expert imaging support but also to educate and work alongside everyone to ensure the best outcomes for our patients. 🐕🐈🦎

The session also included a thorough introduction on patient radiographic positioning for each system. Dr. Multani highlighted the strengths and limitations of each view, explaining when and why certain techniques are preferred in specific cases. The staff appreciated the clear and straightforward explanations, which provided a deeper understanding of the diagnostic processes we use every day. ☢️🩻👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

As our new veterinary radiologist settles into its role, we look forward to more opportunities for learning and growth.
