Holiday foods and treats made for humans should not be shared with pets. The spices and sugar in many human foods can lead to gastrointestinal issues in pets. For example, the cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger in pumpkin pie can be mildly toxic for cats and dogs.

Holly and tinsel may be holiday décor staples, but we recommend skipping these because:

❄Tinsel’s thin, shiny strands are very attractive to playful pets, but the strands can be inhaled, get wrapped around tongues, or get snagged in the intestinal tract
❄Holly leaves and berries are poisonous to dogs and can cause severe gastro-intestinal issues and a trip to the emergency room. Choose an artificial version instead

Festive lights are a staple of the holiday season, but extra lights mean extra cords for pets to potentially chew and play with, and tall trees that can be knocked down.
🎄Make sure that your tree is secured and installed correctly
🔌Limit the amount of cords and make them inaccessible to pets
💡Unplug holiday lights at the end of the night

Candles and fireplaces keep us warm and cozy during the winter months but are an increased fire risk around animals.
Ensure your pet is never left unattended near an open flame.
Thoroughly extinguish candles and fireplaces before leaving the room or going to bed.
Stay safe this Holiday season!

Perla's probably thinking: 'I asked for a treat, not a transformation into a marshmallow!' 😅

One Benadryl and one steroid injection later and we're happy to report that she's doing well!
