We hope you’re having a fantastic summer! As part of our ongoing commitment to you, we wanted to update you on some recent changes at Fisher Glen Animal Hospital.

As you may have noticed, we have a few team members departing FGAH. We sincerely wish them all the best in their future endeavours and thank them for their efforts during their time with us.

As much as we will miss them, we are excited about this new chapter for our practice. Please rest assured knowing that our top priority during this transition period is taking care of you and your furry family members.

This brings us to an exciting update: we’re thrilled to announce that Dr. Krista Nelson, DVM, Diplomate, ABVP (Canine and Feline Practice), is now accepting appointments during this transitional period!

Dr. Krista is an experienced veterinarian with over 15 years under her belt. From her time in emergency medicine to general practice, Dr. Krista has consistently advocated for compassionate and progressive veterinary care. Her board-certified expertise means that she has put in extra hours to hone her craft, so you can breathe easy knowing your cherished pet is in great hands with her.

Thank you for your understanding and support during this period of transition. We remain dedicated to providing the quality care you've come to expect and deserve. As always, we truly appreciate being part of your pet’s journey!

Is your dog protected against leptospirosis? Does your dog drink from puddles or streams on hikes or in parks? Leptospirosis is an infectious disease that causes serious and sometimes fatal illness in dogs, other animals,and people, too. We have had several reports of positive cases from our local emergency hospitals this past few weeks. Luckily, many of our clients are having their pets vaccinated against this however, it is an “optional” vaccine so you may have skipped it. For this reason, we are asking our clients to review their records (or check with us😊). We can always add this vaccine at any time if it hasn’t been done in the past. More info: The leptospirosis bacteria are spread through the urine of infected rats, squirrels, raccoons, opossums, and other wildlife (this is called “urinary shedding”) that contaminates standing water, soil, or other surfaces your dog may come in contact with. Your dog can also contract leptospirosis from an infected dog through close contact with them or their urine. Once infected, your dog may show symptoms such as fever, lethargy, weight loss, drinking/ urinary changes, jaundice, gastrointestinal complications, and potentially trouble breathing. Some advanced infections can even lead to organ failure and death. Preventing infection through vaccination against leptospirosis is the best way to keep your dog healthy.
