Last Saturday our Grand-dog Brodie, all 3 lbs of her had taken what we think was a severe seizure that led to a stroke. When she was found her tongue was blue and her body contorted, she didn't seem to be breathing at the time. Lucky for everyone Josh (Dixie's boyfriend) was there to start CPR.
They rushed her to the vet in Brockville where the prognosis was not good, when she arrived she was unresponsive but breathing. Euthanasia was considered, but Dixie thought no lets wait for a few hours to play it out. It was decided that Brodie would go to Alta Vista Vet Hospital for overnight care to help decide what her fate would be. By the time she left Brockville she was responsive to Dixie's voice and could turn her head but otherwise paralyzed.
She spent the next two days in ICU at the Alta Vista Animal Hospital. Every hour she got a little stronger. She began to eat and drink on her own. She still had no use of any of her legs though.
This last Tuesday Dixie sent me a video clip of Brodie starting to stand on her own while she was eating (with a little help of course). She was making progress, fantastic progress!!
Today she sent me these videos, it brought tears to my eyes. This little 3 lbs of joy has so much fight in her when all the odds were against her. I just hope that when I come up against such odds that I can have half the fight in me as she does. She truly is a remarkable being, one that I am very proud to have as my Grand- dog!
Love you Brodie so much!!
This past weekend we got to babysit my brother and his wife's furry baby for the first time now that they have moved here from out west.
Myles hadn't packed enough wet food for the wee old man. So Darby asked us to post this ...
