Happy Website Wednesday!
Here is some information on a bacteria we have in our area called Leptospirosis.
Leptospirosis is a serious bacterial infection that can affect both dogs and humans. Itโs spread through the urine of infected animals, often in water or soil, and can cause severe illness, including kidney and liver damage. The good news? Vaccination against leptospirosis is highly effective in protecting your furry friend from this potentially deadly disease. By keeping your dog up-to-date with their vaccinations, you're not only safeguarding their health but also helping to prevent the spread of this infection to other animals and humans. Talk to your vet today about the leptospirosis vaccine and give your dog the protection they deserve!
A fact sheet from the CDC answers questions about the risk of people getting leptospirosis from their pets.

Oh my, the last few weeks have been quite stressful for those who travel with their dogs to the United States!
On May 8th 2024 the CDC announced new requirements for pets to enter the US. We had been holding off on making recommendations to clients as the requirements were continuing to change. Last week the health certificate forms were changed and yesterday, July 22nd the CDC announced another change of guidelines.
It looks like as of July 23rd 2024 the requirements for a dog to enter the US are:
ยท Dogs must appear healthy upon arrival.
ยท Dogs must be at least 6 months old at time of entry or return to the U.S.
ยท Dogs must have a microchip that can be detected with a universal scanner to identify them.
ยท Owner must fill out a CDC Import form online and show receipt.
ยท An up to date rabies vaccine will be required to enter back in to Canada
We hope this is the last change they will make but strongly encourage you to consult the CDC website for the most updated information.

Safe travels!

๐ Thank You to Our Amazing Clients! ๐
We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the generous donations to the Shane Jonas Fundraiser.
As a reminder, our clients, the Jonas family, are holding this fundraiser in memory of their late son Shane. To honor Shane's memory, the family has created a memorial bursary fund at Algonquin College. This annual bursary supports students in trade programs, and we think itโs a beautiful way to remember Shane.
There's still time to contribute! If you haven't yet, please feel free to drop your donations in the jar at our reception desk. Crown Pointe Animal Hospital will be matching all donations up to $500.00, doubling the impact of your kindness.

The clinic will be open Monday April 8th during the solar eclipse but we have scheduled some time for our team members to view the eclipse. This may be a once in a lifetime opportunity for some of us and for a few brief moments during the eclipse we won't be answering our phones. However please leave a voicemail and we will get back to you shortly afterwards.
Most of your pets won't be bothered by the eclipse but could be stressed by more visitors, heavier traffic and human activities. Please keep your cats indoors during this time.

We have been looking into ways to better serve our clients and have identified ease of booking appointments and reminders as ways that we can improve our service.
We are going to be introducing an app called Otto. It will allow you to request appointments online, view your pets vaccine history and see when annual exams are due. It will also help to allow all of our clients to receive important updates.
We are excited to offer this and hope that it provides a better service for you. We appreciate your patience with us as our team learns how to manage this new system.
You might receive email notifications inviting you to view your pets information this week.
