This image is not my clients dog. It is for representation only. I may have saved a dog’s life yesterday. A regular client came for his groom. While washing him I noticed the front of his legs looked Really red. Once I started drying him, I had a full visual of all his skin. All four legs were almost a burgundy colour and he had spots all over his body that were blueish/purple. I realized this was blood under his skin. I called the owner immediately and recommended they get an appointment with their vet asap or go to an emergency hospital. There were a number of possibilities this could be and most were extremely critical. The owners headed straight from Zen Grooming to their vet where multiple tests and blood work were done. This dog was diagnosed with ehrlichiosis which is a tick born disease. This disease can result in a low platelet count (called thrombocytopenia) which can lead to excessive or spontaneous bleeding when platelet counts are low. Luckily, a round of antibiotics for a month should have this sweet boy healed up.

This little guy used to come to me medicated because he was stressed and difficult to groom. Over time we gradually reduced his meds to none. This was him today while I worked on his face. ❤️

As most of my clients know I love all dogs but not all may know that my heart lies with the seniors. It began almost 15 years ago when I fostered and then adopted a 13 year old Rough Collie mix that had been severely abused. We developed an unimaginably strong bond in our short 10 months together. He started my love of the seniors. Since then I have fostered roughly 40 - 50 dogs; mostly senior dogs aged 11 years and up. I love and care for them as they age and require more medical care, physical assistance, special dietary wants/needs and then hold them close as they pass on to what I hope is a better, pain free, happily ever after where I will see them again. In early March 2023 I took in a 14 year old 'forever foster ' Rough Collie through Collie Rescue Network. True to her breed, Amber was super sweet and gentle. If left alone in a room she would do her 'old lady bark' to let us know she didn't want to be left alone. She quickly became attached to her new sister and followed her around. Last week she became very ill and many tests later it was decided that the best thing for Amber was to say our final goodbye and release her from her pain. Amber was my 10th dog in 11 years I have helped peacefully leave this world. To say I am heartbroken hardly describes my pain. Rest well sweet girl. Another angel got her wings. 💔💔

Zen Grooming is closed today as my husband and I mourn the passing of our sweet Ollie.
He's been there and helped us through the loss of many dogs over the past 16 years. We will miss you terribly.
