Did you know that “Chico” actually means small boy in Spanish? It turns out our Chico, is a small boy, with a s***ky personality and a large spirit. Take everything you’ve ever imagined about an Orange Tabby cat and you have Chico.
Chico is adorably sweet, incredibly affectionate and breathtakingly handsome. This cool cat is easy-going, intelligent, playful, curious, cuddly and he ADORES the company of other cats. Chico’s litter box habits are 10/10 and he knows his way around the kitchen….well every room of the house actually. He would fit in at any fun-loving, cat-ready home and he will especially need a furry friend to spend time with.
Does anyone know the spanish word for “perfect”? Turns out, that is another word that won’t be lost in translation for sweet Chico.

Tortoise, for instance, was thrown outside by her previous owners (through no fault of her own) and has been lovingly fostered by Joyce for over four months. Tortoise is a senior cat and it can take time to find an adopter for an older kitty. Thank you for fostering. 🙏 💕

Socks 🧦 the little fluffball that has grown into quite the adventurer 🗺️ This little kitten loves being on top of her cat tree and finding some cozy and crazy spots 🤪 She never passes up on those belly rubs and a lovely brushing to keep her beautiful!

Socks gets along well with other cats and seems unfazed by gentle dogs 🐶

Bells 🔔 the adorable girl with a purr that matches her name (it’s a loud one ❤️) Bells will look for the closest lap to curl up and sleep on 😻 She sure loves those cuddles and belly rubs!

Bells is a clean girl who loves to be brushed and does not mind her claws getting clipped 💅 Her favourite toy is definitely her laser pointer, but will never pass up a good box to play with 📦

Cat feeding is not a topic we think too much about. After all, isn’t it just a matter of filling a kibble bowl and topping up the water?

A cat’s feeding station is an essential part of a cat’s good health. Stainless steel or glass bowls are much easier to sanitize and are preferred over plastic. Bowls should be washed regularly and the dishwasher is a great option. If washing by hand, always be sure to thoroughly rinse off dish soap residue.

Cats aren’t always the greatest water drinkers so to encourage hydration, make sure to refresh water bowls on a daily basis. Some cats enjoy plug-in cat water fountains while others like access to water bowls in convenient places. It’s a good idea to offer a variety of options. Just like in humans, proper hydration is essential for good health.

Never place food bowls next to a cat’s litter box area. 💩. None of us would want breakfast served to us in our bathroom area. 🥹🤢. It can lead to issues as cats try to avoid littering near their food.

As for the food itself, always feed your kitty the highest quality food that fits within your budget. Good nutrition can help to prevent or delay illness. If you’re not already doing so, consider adding wet/canned food to your cat’s diet regimen. Wet food offers less calorie, per ounce, than kibble and adds much needed hydration.

* If your cat is over/under weight or has health issues be sure to check with your vet before making dietary changes.

It’s a good idea to provide kitten food for the first year of your cat’s life as it has a higher concentration of fat and calories for growing kitties.

Remember that cat’s are carnivores. Unlike dogs who can tolerate some carbohydrates in their diet, cats primarily need a meat diet for their metabolic health.

Speak to your veterinarian about the benefits of adding probiotics or supplements to your cat’s diet.

With so many of us making healthier choices as part of our new year resolutions, please also consider your cat’s dietary habits to give it the best care for 2025!

We’re exactly a month away from Valentine’s Day, and we’re going to get the sweetness and romance started early. 💘
Here is a love story for the ages that happened right here at Biscuits and Purrs! It’s Beignet and Grace, and they’re looking for their special forever home together. 😻😻

If you’ve been following us for a while, you know Beignet and Grace are two of our cats with special needs.
Beignet (Benny) is a 7-year-old boy with a vision impairment. Although he can’t see very well, he’s still a big, gentle guy with extra strong hearing who can follow the sound of moving toys (and more importantly, the sound of food being put out at mealtime!). He can also smell well, helping him move around the room, identify his friends, and find the litter box.

Grace is a very precious, 6-month-old girl who has had her front leg amputated. When she came home from her surgery, she knew exactly who she wanted by her side as she healed and settled — Beignet of course. 🥰
Within moments, they were right next to each other, which later turned into a play wrestling match! When Beignet goes to the scratching post, Grace follows and does her best to scratch with the one paw. When Beignet plays, Grace plays. When Beignet explores, Grace is right behind. Although they are very different in age, personality, and abilities, these two have all the adoration and patience in the world for each other. 💕

It warms our hearts to see these two special kitties find comfort and love with one another. It’s now time for them to find their forever home, and by staying together, they can take care of each other and thrive as a dynamic duo.

Rescued from the streets in March 2024 as an 8-month-old with no prior human contact, Murphy’s transformation into the sweet and curious boy he’s becoming is nothing short of incredible. While he’s not a fan of being picked up (he’ll squirm and scurry off), Murphy’s love language is clear: he’ll rub up against you, lift his tail high, and stay close by to let you know you’re his person.

Murphy is the ultimate companion for a quiet home. His needs are simple: a cozy spot to nap, plenty of dry kibble, and a little patience while he continues to blossom. He’s not a fan of rambunctious dogs but is wonderfully tolerant of calm ones. In the foster room, Murphy has earned the affectionate title Uncle Murf for his nurturing and protective nature. He welcomes newcomers, keeps peace among rowdy kittens, and thrives in the company of other confident cats, who help him come out of his shell.

Kim is the fourth and final Director to be featured in our “In the Spotlight” series here at Biscuits and Purrs Cat Rescue. We’ve told you about Juliana (Director, East), Yolla (Director, West) and Shelley (Director- Casselman cattery).

Kim became involved in rescue during the mid-90’s. Wanting to help cats, she quickly discovered that fostering and rescue work would lead to the greatest impact. “If you can’t keep them all, then try to help as many as possible.”

Kim says she never planned to have her own shelter but things evolved that way. Realizing that she was deeply involved in so many aspects of cat rescue made it possible to take the leap to become a Director at Biscuits and Purrs.

In the future, Kim is passionate about developing a program to enable others to help care for cats; people in challenging situations. She feels strongly that kids, veterans, so many people could benefit from a relationship with cats. Kim has a soft spot for senior cats-those with seizures, diabetes, those who are blind. The ones nobody else will take.

Her inspiration comes, in part, from her own mother’s relationship with animals and Kim knows that animals contribute to human well- being!

Kim says she is very thankful for her fellow Directors, with whom she talks, listens, shares and feels supported.
The relationship between our four Directors is truly inspirational; based on respect, caring and a common goal.

When asked about her greatest struggle, in rescue, Kim answered almost immediately “money!” She explains that limited funds means decisions are made out of necessity, not always on love or compassion. It leads to heartbreaking decisions.

Kim’s message to everyone is that cat rescue should not be viewed through the lens of its difficulties but rather through a spirit that knows that every little bit helps. Follow your heart, one step at a time. Who knows where it will lead you? Perhaps towards being an advocate for animals, just like Kim, our Directors and all of our team of volunteers.

🐱Holten is an adorable, cuddly, nine-month-old kitten. He is part cat, part bunny 🐰 (take a look at that first pic 😂 ) and ALL parts furry-friend. Holten is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and ready to bounce right into your lap.

His foster mom writes 👉 Holten is as special as they come. He is a pro-level snuggler who adores curling up in your neck for the ultimate cuddle session. His purr? It’s epic! He has the loudest rumbling purr that you’ve ever heard—it’s like a soothing little motor of love.

Holten loves being with his cat friends and he has a gentle, playful spirit. He can be initially shy in new and unfamiliar situations or around new people, but he warms up quickly and will offer up all the love in the world.

Holten is a good eater, has great litter habits and is the cuddle-bunny you’ve been looking for. 🥰🤗

Thank you so much to everyone who recently donated cases of Fancy Feast and a few other goodies. We have over 140 cats in our care right now and new arrivals coming in. That’s a lot of hungry mouths to feed.

Your generosity will ensure that our kitties get their tasty bit of canned food each day. It’s bring them so much joy and the added hydration of wet food helps many of them that are just out of surgery, have dental issues or are newly weaned. We are so grateful to you all.

We have a heartbreaking “new arrival” to tell you about today.
We were contacted by someone who had trapped and secured an injured and senior Male Tabby cat in her garage. 🙏 They pleaded for our help and we have accepted this senior cat. We want to share the finder’s message with you so that readers can understand some of the heartbreaking messages we receive. These are the messages that keep us up at night!

The finder wrote:
I have a homeless cat that is in my garage for the last two days. He needs medical assistance. He eats well and is friendly, as far as I can see. He has difficulty walking and is elderly. I am in the country and my neighbour takes care of homeless cats ...she said that she has been feeding this cat off and on for the last 10 years. The fur on his tail is all tangled, he has difficulty walking...He is hurt....I saw blood the other day on the snow..not sure if it belongs to him. The neighbour can’t bring it in her house as she has other cats....I cannot either as I have cats of my own and no free room...can you please help me? I am 72 years and will start medical treatment this week...I cannot take care of him..He deserves a second chance. PLEASE HELP. I am retired but can make a small donation if it might help...I do not know where you are but my second neighbour has offered to drive me to you .🙏🙏🙏

Athena and Lo are 6-month-old sisters who are looking for their forever home. We were just kidding about the “trouble” part — they’re full of energy and s***k, though! 😸

Athena is a striking little lady with caramel swirls and a face that will make you think of a tiger 🐯. Since coming into our care, Athena has grown strong and independent, making her perfectly suited for a solo adventure or the company of older cats.
Athena loves to explore, and while she’s initially shy, she’s open to the attention. Her adventurous spirit is sure to brighten up any home, bringing a dash of sweetness and a sprinkle of sass.

Lo was named after the Greek myth of Lo—a woman turned into a cow by Zeus—because of her unique spots! Lo is as charming as her namesake and full of life. She’s healthy, active, and adores playtime with her many toys. Affectionate and trusting, Lo is always ready to cozy up to humans and gets along well with other cats.

🎉 It is only Sunday morning and it has already been an incredible weekend of adoptions here at Biscuits and Purrs Cat Rescue. We couldn’t be more excited at the momentum our rescue has picked up thanks to the support of our followers.

🏬 Our unstoppable volunteers held another successful adoption event at PetValu Embrun. Thank you to the store and its employees for hosting us.
Five lucky kitties found their forever homes on Saturday. Congratulations to Annabelle, Ash, Martini, Willow and Shadow.

🚗 At the same time, Clover was being adopted from our Perth cattery, Moon was adopted, Luna completed her adoption to her new family and Cinder was adopted and picked up from her foster home.

It feels as though our city was buzzing from east to west and north to south, with Biscuits and Purrs Cat Rescue adoptions.

Thank you to every single person who helped out on Saturday, adopted, volunteered or worked quietly behind-the-scenes to find homes for another nine rescue kitties.

Tanya here again from the social media team. I’m sharing one of my favourite cat tips. I found this adorable indoor cat door (available from all pet supply or online merchants). My cat’s feeding station and litter area (at a far distance from one another) are in a separate area of my home. To keep it inaccessible to my dog, I’ve installed this cat passageway. My cats can easily come and go, the physical door doesn’t need to stay open, my dog can’t get reach the food. The best part, the cat door actually has a knob that turns and the door closes and locks. That means I can safely secure the cats in their own area if I have visitors or an open-door delivery or just need a time-out! #bpcrcattips #biscuitsandpurrscatrescue

Ginger is both her name and her colour but this girl is so much more than meets the eye! Did you know that only 1 in 5 orange cats are female? This makes our Ginger a rare find. Like most ginger kittens, Ginger is super affectionate, loves attention from felines and human servants alike (she is even okay with the small dog in her foster home), she is truly everyone’s best friend. She has flirted her way into the hearts of all our volunteers who have had the pleasure of making her acquaintance.
