💕We have an update on recently-adopted Cricket and Ellie. We love hearing from adopters who let us know that their Biscuits and Purrs Cat Rescue kitties have settled right in.

🐈Cricket’s adopters write: As requested, please find two photos of Cricket in our home. She's adapted extremely quickly and we absolutely love having her here. We have decided to keep the name Cricket because it totally suits her. 😃

🐈Ellie’s family writes: Just wanted to let you know that Ellie is settling in nicely.
She is already very comfortable roaming around the basement and sometimes she ventures upstairs to look around.
She eats really well and plays around.
We bought her two cat trees and a bunch of tunnels to play in.
She is already keeping me company at my desk.

🏡In some instances, a new home can be a scary and unfamiliar place for a cat.
💻There is lots of information on the internet about the 3:3:3 rule. 3 days to relax, 3 weeks to feel secure and to get familiar with household routines and 3 months to accept that it is their forever home.

Of course, quite often, cats (like Ellie and Cricket) settle in almost immediately. With reassurance, a prepared space, a few supplies and love 💕(the most important) your new kitty will embrace its new home.

🐱🏡 Biscuits and Purrs Cat Rescue is Seeking foster homes in the Ottawa area!🏡🐱

Now that the cooler weather has arrived, we’re inundated with requests to accept cats and we can’t do it without your help! We need foster homes—safe places where cats can reside until they find their forever families!

Whether you have pets and children, work in or out of the home, or live in a house or an apartment, you can foster! All you need is a safe space such as an office, a bedroom, etc., and a bit of spare time. We provide supplies, vet care, and lots of guidance along the way.

It is such a rewarding experience.
👉You’ll help to save a life by making space for another kitty-in-need
👉you’ll teach your children compassion toward’s animals
👉all supplies are covered and you’ll enjoy the companionship of a pet on a short-term basis

Meet Blaze, a sweet and gentle ginger boy with a heart full of love. Blaze was trapped on one of our fosters' properties, and though we posted his photo on multiple lost and found sites, no one came forward to claim him. It’s hard to believe, given how friendly and affectionate he is—Blaze must have known the warmth of a home before. This chatty guy loves to nuzzle and rub his head against you, and he practically melts when you give him head and neck scratches, purring with delight just from a glance.

Blaze is super easygoing and enjoys watching other furry friends play from a distance, happy to be a part of the scene. He's also a little food thief on a mission—if he can sneak some extra wet food, he’ll do it with a twinkle in his eye! Blaze is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, and he's ready to bring joy and love to a forever family.

When it comes to kittens, two is almost always better than 1!

Did you know that Biscuits and Purrs Cat Rescue requires that kittens be adopted in pairs or have another young and friendly feline waiting for them in their forever homes? We have a few good reasons for this choice and we wanted to share some of them with you!

First, kittens can keep each other company! Have to work? No worries, your kitten will have a buddy by their side while you’re taking care of business! Have chores to do? A-Okay set the pair up in a room with some toys and listen to the chaos as you do what you got to do! Having a pair of kittens means that your kitten will not always be after your undivided attention and will have an equally energetic buddy to fill the time with when you can’t be there for fun and snuggles.

Second, kittens teach each other how to play appropriately and safely! Kittens learn from playing with others how hard they bite, use their nails and generally behave without hurting or upsetting their friend. These are lessons that are very difficult for humans to replicate. Cats who grew up alongside other felines have better manners with felines and humans alike! Socialization is important for a long and healthy life and growing up with another kitten sets your new family members up for long-term success!

Third, everything is just better with a buddy! Whether chasing each other around, leaping after toys, hunting for treats, grabbing a nap, grooming or taking in a hockey game, everything's better with a friend! Cats are social creatures and benefit from other feline friends as well as their relationships with humans! The world can be a scary place, no one should have to do it alone!

Meet the nicest boy on the block — Louie! ☺️☀️
At just five years old, this little man is looking for a forever family who will cherish his curious, sweet nature. 💓

Louie came into his foster’s care scared and full of dandruff. 😢
He was also carrying a few extra pounds that he has since lost. Although, he’s still a big boy at 21 pounds! 😬
We recommend that his forever family keep an eye on his weight to bring him to his absolute healthiest. He so deserves it.

With his silky black coat and expressive eyes, you can imagine that Louie makes friends (both human and feline) fast! 🤩
He will hang out with anyone who is around, and has made friends with his foster’s cat very fast. Although the resident cat is more playful than Louie, he does his best to keep up and is always patient and kind.

In his free time, Louie loves to stare at humans (he’s trying to figure us all out 🤔😆), watching what we’re doing while getting head pets and belly scratches. He also loves to look out the window — bonus if there are squirrels and rabbits around! He sleeps at the bottom of his foster’s bed and keeps watch all night.

We believe that he would be a good boy with kids or other cats as well.

Whoever adopts Louie will fall in love! His foster is already very attached but is helping Louie find his forever family.

Harlow is a very pretty, 10-month-old, pastel Torti cat with soft, medium-length fur and a personality as beautiful as her looks! She’s now ready to meet her forever family, and we can’t wait to tell you all about her.

Harlow is at that sweet age where she's both playful and perfectly in tune with house manners. This lovely girl adores being close to people, happily tagging along wherever her humans go. She’s gentle, sociable, and so easygoing that she instantly charms everyone who visits.

In true Harlow style, she starts each day with quiet little meows and purrs, greeting everyone with warmth. When she's not racing us up the stairs or zipping around, you’ll find her basking in a sunbeam or keeping a close eye on birds and squirrels outside. Harlow is the best mix of energetic and relaxed—she’s both a delightful playmate and a peaceful companion.

Buddy has put on his very best attire in hopes of catching the 👀eye👀 of that special someone- could it be you?!

Handsome Buddy arrived reluctantly into our care in July. He was born and lived his entire life up to this point outside with very little human contact or kindness. He had to survive on his own, relying on the scrapes he could find that others discarded. Buddy had no one to depend on but himself. However, over the last four months, his foster has begun to show Buddy that he doesn’t have to do it all by himself anymore, he is loved and from now on, he will have a human friend and caretaker by his side.

It has taken Buddy some time to adapt and accept his foster but in the last few weeks, his true purrsonaility has begun to shine through! At heart, Buddy is a playful guy who hasn’t met a wand or string toy he didn’t like! He loves to spend time with the resident cats in his foster home and would like to find a family with at least one other confident and friendly feline. This sweet boy can also entertain himself, filling his evenings with chasing balls and having a blast when the house is quiet.

At three years old, Buddy has spent the majority of his life thus far on his own without people so it’s not surprising he is a bit slow to trust. His timid ways however are not his true nature but a condition of his experience and we have seen him really start to begin to relax indoors. Buddy is a great cat who will need a patient adopter to continue to build his confidence and be okay with slow steps forward.

We promise that he is definitely worth the wait and extra love! If you have room in your home and heart to offer Buddy a forever home where he can come into his own, on his timeline, we would absolutely love to hear from you! This guy had a rough start to life and despite this he doesn’t hold it against us and is not aggressive in any way, he is just a bashful boy.

Giving a shy pet a chance to blossom is an investment that pays off ten-fold and we are hopeful that there is a special family out there that needs an extra, Buddy!

It’s rather unfortunate to have a name like “Zena” on an alphabetically-organized website. By the time adopters get to the letter “Z” on our website, they’re already smitten with another kitten 🐱 🤭😜.

✨This is my moment to shine and I’m not holding back. Hi, everyone, it’s me Zena. I’m seven-months-old, spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and ready for adoption at only $275.

My foster mom says that I’m quiet, sweet and oh so pretty. I have a dainty frame, shiny coat and yellow eyes the colour of the sun. I love chumming around with the dog in my foster home and my cat-bestie Baxter. If you pick me to adopt, I hope you’ll think about adopting Baxter too. We often walk side by side with our tails intertwined. If not, I hope there will be a friendly kitty in your home and maybe even a dog too.

My favourite pastimes include laying beside my furry friends, sleeping in human arms, relaxing in the suns rays, sitting in baskets and I’m always up for a good game of chase especially before bed which is my zoomies o’clock. 😝

🔦This week on “In the Spotlight,” Biscuits and Purrs Cat Rescue narrows its lens on Juliana. 🔦

🤰Let’s start at the beginning when, as a child, Juliana adored cats. Her beloved brother, Jack, was born with Down syndrome and his special connection to cats, led Juliana to further his legacy by delving deeper into rescue. When she read about a need for fosters, her volunteer work began.

👩‍💼With a 35-year career under her belt as a successful project manager and interior designer, Juliana brings an incredible array of skills to the table; she is professional, organized, reliable and fair.

🌠Based in Ottawa’s east-end, Juliana is one of the four Directors at the rescue. Her roles include Treasurer, adoption screener, she works on planning and admin and she hosts adoption events. Her biggest role, without question, is as a foster. She has fostered 223 cats to-date and has no plans to stop. It is her greatest triumph and her biggest love.

⭐️Juliana explains that each of the four directors at Biscuits and Purrs Cat Rescue compliment one another. They each have their strengths and weaknesses but they overlap perfectly and decisions are made fairly, with discussion, offering a balanced long-term vision for the rescue. There is accountability, legitimacy, a wisdom to the group without any drama!!

📢 Thank You, St. Paul’s United Church in Perth, MYFM Lake 88.1 Radio, and The Perth-Journal!

We are beyond grateful to St. Paul’s United Church in Perth for opening your doors and letting us host our 16 November adoption event in your welcoming space. Six wonderful cats found their forever homes! 🏡🐾 It was a heartwarming day, filled with smiles, new connections, and even a few happy tears.

We’d also like to extend our thanks to Bob Perrault from MYFM Lake 88.1 radio in Perth for broadcasting the adoption event and helping us spread the word, as well as the Perth-Journal for your amazing write-up. The extra support made a huge difference in bringing people together, raising awareness about our cat-rescue, and helping us collect some much-appreciated donations.

Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, and showed your love for these cats in need. We couldn't do it without the support of our community. ❤️

🐈 Baxter is a seven-month-old Tabby with white markings, captivating eyes and a gentle soul. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and ready for adoption. His adoption fee is $275.

Comfortable in his foster home, Baxter has revealed his adorably sweet, chatty side. He often greets people with soft meow-meows as if he’s carrying on a little conversation. He adores cuddling with his siblings and has even grown close to the family dog, happily sharing nose rubs with his canine friend.

********UPDATE – BALANCING HOPE AND HARD TRUTHS************** We would like to update all of you on Aura. We were so happy to see Aura doing really well the first 6 days after she gained her freedom from her crate prison. Everyone was relieved and hopeful seeing her go in the right direction, purring, eating, moving around and snuggling in her blankets.🥰🫶😽 We started to worry late Sunday evening as her breathing became strained and heavy. As soon as the vet opened, we brought her in and they did x-rays and a full health check. Aura had a high temperature, was anemic, and there appeared to be a mild lung infection – all possibly pointing to asthma. So good reason for hope as this was treatable. We expected bumps for this little girl given all that she’d been through. We started the meds. But became increasingly concerned because there was no improvement. This morning her breathing was extremely laboured. She was rushed back to the vet where she received oxygen, fluids, an antibiotic injection, more X-rays and blood work. Her X-rays showed that her infection was getting worse, not better, and her temperature was still high. Her bloodwork is also showing that systems are out of whack. While our vets are still deliberating, they are encouraging us to stay hopeful. The most recent suggestion was that this poor girl has wet FIP (feline infectious peritonitis). If so, she may be a candidate for treatment. We have to admit that we’re struggling with our fear that her little body has already dealt with so much, does she have the strength to fight this battle? But Aura’s horrific experience and gentle resilience have captured our hearts. We ask for your positive thoughts and prayers for this sweet girl as we do everything we can for her. If you’re able to make a donation toward her medical care, it would be really appreciated.
