Meet Zazu! He’s a friendly two-year-old cat who was brought to the OHS after being found lost and alone outdoors. When Zazu arrived at the OHS, he had a head tilt and was unsteady on his feet. Our veterinarians discovered that he had a polyp in his ear that was likely causing both his troubles. After performing surgery to remove the polyp, Zazu is now on the road to recovery and is being closely monitored by our veterinary team.
Thanks to our caring community, animals like Zazu have a safe place to go in their time of need.
There are dogs at the OHS who have been waiting months for their forever homes.
We are so appreciative of our adopters who give second chances to the animals, including adorable puppies in need of homes!
Large-breed adult dogs often have a harder time finding their perfect matches, and face long waits in the shelter. These big pups have huge hearts and so much love to give.
If you have room in your heart and your home, and you’re searching for your new best friend, consider adopting a big dog in need.

Fergus came to the OHS all the way from Iqaluit, through our Northern Dog Transfer Program. He arrived in rough condition, his fur dirty and matted. Our team worked carefully to shave his fur, which came off of him in thick clumps. With that weight lifted off his little body, he’s now focused on recovering and getting ready for his neuter surgery before finding his forever home. Thanks to our wonderful supporters, Fergus got the care he needed when he had nowhere else to turn. You can help give second chances to animals like Fergus: https://ow.ly/ybeI50TSV9i
Pepe is questioning who his friends really are if they don’t give him 35 treats before they leave the room.
Pepe is a super sweet two-year-old boy who’s looking for a home without other cats! He’s very social and loves meeting new people who will give him all the attention and love he deserves.
He is FIV+ but that won’t stop him from living a normal and happy life! Pepe has so much love to give. Are you looking for an involved family member to stick right by your side? Visit our website to adopt Pepe!

Ottawa teens are helping rabbits in need and it’s extremely heartwarming 🥰🥰
Meet Teagan, one of our dedicated Youth Foster Volunteers, who’s earning her hours by caring for three-year-old Stuart.
The OHS Youth Foster Program gives teens the chance to learn about rabbits and animal care, practice responsibility and earn their high school volunteer hours. So far, 17 rabbits have been helped by teen volunteers, who attend a special workshop before bringing home their bunnies.
Teagan says she’s formed a strong bond with Stuart, and she’s so dedicated to helping him find his forever home that she’s keeping him in her care even after she’s completed her 40 hours! This is the type of care and commitment that we love to see in the next generation of pet owners and animal champions.
