Spay/neuter discount alert!

It's time for more discounts! We're offering 15% off spays, neuters, and associated services for both cats and dogs from now until the end of June.

Cat neuters will be $459+tax and cat spays will be $612. Dog neuters will be $612-672 and dog spays will be $680-876 weight-depending. These fees include everything needed before, during, and after surgery.

For additional services, options are pre-operative bloodwork $187+tax (mandatory over 5 years of age), microchip implantation and registration $102, cat FIV/leukemia testing $110, and dog heartworm and tick disease testing $94.

If your pet is a female who has already gone into heat, a surcharge of $85+tax for cats and $161 for dogs will be applied as more time and materials will be needed. If your mature female is a dog, we want to wait 8 weeks after her last heat to operate.

Dental discount alert!

Did you know that 80% of pets over the age of 3 have dental disease?

While dental health is important year-round, February is National Pet Dental Health Month. Proper dental care is vital for comfort and long life as dental disease leads to kidney, liver, and even heart impairment. If your pet has bad breath or you can see tartar buildup or redness in their gums, it is time for a dental cleaning.

To celebrate, we would like to offer our clients 10% off Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatments in February.

COHATs (anesthesia, IV fluids, scaling, polishing, fluoride, etc.) will be $720, full mouth x-rays (only mandatory for a pet's first dental) will be $270; extractions, if needed, will be $180 per 10 minutes; and bloodwork (optional under 5 years, mandatory over 5) will be $198.

As we head into the holiday season, here are a few pet hazards to watch out for:

1. Savory and sweet: Candies and cookies may contain toxic ingredients like chocolate and the artificial sweetener, Xylitol. Plants in the allium genus like onions, garlic, and leeks can damage our pets' red blood cells. Bones can fracture teeth, tear or block intestines, and cause re**al bleeding - be careful when sharing and dispose of packaging appropriately.

2. Hang the mistletoe high: Holiday plants such as holly, mistletoe, and poinsettias are toxic to cats and dogs. Keep them out of reach and if bringing home a bouquet of flowers, be sure there are no lilies as even mild exposure can cause kidney failure in cats.

3. Tinsel and twinkly lights: Pets may confuse decorations for toys. Chewing lights can cause electrocution and swallowing string-like items (also known as linear foreign bodies) like tinsel or threaded popcorn can be life-threatening and costly to treat.

4. Anti-freeze and ice melts are extremely dangerous. Pets are attracted to their sweet ethylene glycol, but ingestion can quickly cause organ damage and death. Use pet-safe products whenever possible, keep them behind closed doors, and when walking dogs outside, be sure they wear boots and/or wash their feet immediately after coming indoors.

💥 Upcoming Fireworks! 💥

As we prepare ourselves to celebrate Canada Day, we must prepare our pets as well.

Even the bravest cats and dogs can be spooked by loud fireworks. They may shake, pant, and hide in strange places. It can take days to adjust and prolonged stress can cause further issues like gastrointestinal upset and herpes virus flare-ups in cats.

Pets have strong fight or flight instincts. They may become agitated or flee from their owners. If your pet is outside this weekend, be sure they are secured and supervised to prevent them from getting lost or hit by a vehicle.

Here are some tips for this weekend:

-Provide a calm, safe hiding space
-Use high value treats and distracting food toys
-Stay with them or find a petsitter
-Use a ThunderShirt if appropriate and the weather is cool
-Try calming pheromone products like Adaptil and Feliway
-Request calming medication from your veterinarian

Reminder: If barbecuing and partying, be mindful or your pet's access to hard objects like bones and corn cobs and substances like alcohol, cannabis and to***co.
