Proper socialization is actually exposing your puppy to sights, sounds and surfaces. And yes, dogs and people are part of that but they're certainly not the WHOLE picture, nor are they the most important.
In fact, when people focus too much on their puppy meeting every dog and person they see, it usually leads to reactivity at a later date, either from frustration or fear.
Instead, focus on bringing your puppy out into the world to observe their surroundings, hear novel sounds and walk on different surfaces. Our end goal is a dog who isn't phased by anything and this is accomplished through positive experiences in new environments.
Time in nature is super important but don't forget to bring your pup to busy and noisy places as well. Reward when appropriate (if puppy checks in with you or needs help with something), but don't overshadow the experience and be sure to let them take it all in!
Pro tip- don't rush this process! Give your puppy a week to settle in before you start taking them everywhere. Remember, your home is already a new place for them. They've been kidnapped from everything they've known for their short time on earth. Let them adapt and get to know you first!
