5 Things I Didn’t Expect When My Child Started Riding Lessons at Royale Equestrian Centre
1. It’s so much more than riding.
I thought we were signing up for a sport, but it’s really a full experience teaching responsibility, patience, and confidence in the most hands-on, meaningful way.
2. The barn became their second home.
It’s where they feel calm, focused, and proud of themselves. There’s something about being around horses that brings out the best in kids.
3. They’re learning real life skills.
From grooming and tacking up to leading and caring for their horse. They’re becoming capable, independent, and grounded.
4. I started learning too.
I didn’t expect to learn the difference between a curry comb and a hoof pick—or find myself googling horse breeds and tack types after bedtime stories. It’s been fun being part of their journey.
5. It brought us closer.
Sharing this experience hearing the stories, watching confidence grow, and learning together has been something really special for both of us.
If you’ve ever considered horseback riding for your child, I can honestly say: We signed up for lessons, but we gained so much more.
